  1. well, let's hope so! the elite players are probably top 5, like the cream of the crop. there are good prospects to be had later in the first round, but the top five, is probably the elite of this draft class. the higher we pick, the better. could it be that we could have a good chance to getting Bedard?
  2. Not if his ceiling is a 3rd line centre. That's supposedly Kotkaniemi's potential too right? A third line centreman? And he's not producing offensively that much either, but he's defensively stronger than Miller is most likely, no?
  3. I wonder what the reason Allvin and management had as their reason to not allow other teams to negotiate a long term contract with Bo if a deal were to be had? I wonder also if they could've gotten more than what they got from the Islanders. I hate dealing with Lamoriello. The guy is smart. Did he outsmart Allvin in this deal?
  4. I don't hate Miller, I just don't prefer him. No player is perfect. I get that. Miller in my mind, however, had a career 99 points, I honestly don't think he gets to that unless he's playing with Petey, which they can't be doing now because they're down a centre. I'd like to see Miller be played in the middle and see if anything changes under Tocchet. IF nothing changes, then the narrative about him, at least for me, doesn't change. Poor defensively, lazy and giving up on the backcheck. JT's got a lot to prove with the areas and deficits in his game. I also think Miller's out there more with a negative perception because of his antics. Sure, other players don't backcheck and give up on plays as well, but they way they carry themselves on the ice gives a different perception. JT's on ice antics and behavior gets old, and that kind of stuff wears thin pretty fast. I think there's a reason for why Allvin didn't mention his name as possible next captain. Emotion's not bad, and certainly there's a fine line there, but the kind of emotion that JT's thrown out there has gotten old. Smashing his stick on the bench, on the goalie's goalposts, etc. I know he hates to lose, but so does everyone in that locker room, he ain't the only player that hates to lose, but he's the only guy showing it the way he does.
  5. I'll admit that I'm not as big a fan as some other posters here. And I didn't discount his 99 points. He's very good offensively, but he's no 200 foot player. Petey is that guy, Miller is not. He gives up on the backcheck (unless you've selectively chosen to ignore that part of his game), and he's poor defensively. He wants to play centre, but because he's so bad and unreliable defensively, he sucks there. There's a reason for why he's on the wing, and he's had success there. I don't know how many of his 99 points was playing centre or wing last season, but how is it that he's dropped offensively and remains the same defensively this season? I still stand by the position and stance that this signing of Miller to 7 years, won't age very well. If he's already declining in his defensive game, that doesn't bode well for the next 3-5 years, let alone the entirety of his newly signed contract. Management would be wise to get rid of JT when they're able to, before they're really stuck with his contract once his new deal kicks in. I'm not saying that Miller is a bad player. He's obviously not. But his stick smashing, on-ice antics are annoying to say the least. It's like watching a grown ass man who is emotionally a child. Can't seem to control his temper and his emotional mood swings reminds me of a teenager working through their hormones. Curious why Allvin mentions Petey and Hughes as possible leaders on the team, but not their newly signed player in JT?
  6. To me, this is not a sign of a leader. Leadership often comes out when the going gets tough. You know what you get. We know what we have in Miller when the going gets tough. He pouts, and he gets lazy defensively.
  7. Miller is a complete hockey player? LOL. I know you're not joking, but wish you were. Miller has defensive defencies in his game. He's not a 200 feet player, which means he ain't a "complete player". c'mon now.
  8. He'll sign a long term contract with the Islanders. It's weird that he'd have split his time almost equally between the Canucks and Islanders. Does he come back here near the end of his career? could be our bottom six centre in the twilight of his career.
  9. well, you might just get your wish. this seems and feels like the first of many trades coming (Brock, Garland, Demko, etc). Petey and Hughes will see a very different team next season. Will they be happier if the team is winning much more? This is a business at the end of the day. They'll all still be friends, the NHL is a fraternity of sorts...but at the end of the day, it's not personal, it's business.
  10. Give it to him. He's now our franchise player. I still can't believe that Bo's no longer a Canuck...that's hard to believe...
  11. I suspect that some of the teams out East will probably want to bolster their rosters to compete with some of the other teams, but it really depends on which teams out east are making moves, and what they're willing to give up for an offensive player like Miller. If there's more losing in the coming years, I'm not sure if Miller can hold it together, or whether he'll implode. I can also see Raty getting a few games here and there before the season ends to give him a taste of the NHL.
  12. I can see him dropping since he's Russian, and he may take a few years before he even arrives here in North America. Can't see the Canucks taking him if he were even remotely available, since Rutherford and Allvin don't seem to have the patience to wait that long.
  13. This is more wait and see. Raty is a good prospect, but he's not a can't miss prospect. The Canucks have never had a great developmental program in their system. They always talk about it, but we've never had a system or program that churned and developed good, to great players in the organization. Never something like Tampa Bay has or has had for years now. The deal was basically for the 1st (either 2023 or 2024), and Raty. If Raty doesn't pan out, I think that's a loss on the Canucks no? I also don't have as much confidence with Rutherford and Allvin at the forefront of the drafting. Who did they draft that had good pedigree when they were in Pittsburgh? Other than the generational no-brainer talents in Crosby and Malkin?
  14. Barzal at 9M makes Miller look cheap. Only player I can see getting that much on the Canucks is Petey, and he'll probably get more than Barzal is making.
  15. I was still shocked to hear of the trade. But was expecting it to be announced inevitably. I'm not sure about the return. Raty is a decent prospect, but he fell for a reason. The first, could be delayed to 2024, so that's conditional on how the Islanders do the rest of the year. We're definitely a worse team today. Who's playing 2C - MILLER?
  16. I love Demko. I think if he stays healthy, he's a top ten goaltender in the league without a doubt. We don't have any legit, star goalie prospects in the pipline, maybe Silovs? I dunno... But dealing Demko now would be dealing from a position of weakness, not strength, that usually tends to be a bad trade...
  17. Yeah me too. But like you, I also believe Bo's final game was probably against the Jackets. There's over a week until the next game, and I could see a trade coming. I'd be surprised if management could sign Bo to a long term deal. I'd rather they deal Miller if the right deal came along, but who's going to want to take 8M over the next 7 years for JT?
  18. everything this management has done hasn't been with a long term approach or view. It's win now.
  19. that's probably a better strategy to try to stock up on the 2024 draft, since we're lacking in backend talent.
  20. yeah, waiving Brock is silly. he's having a bad year, but he's a good player, he wouldn't go unclaimed that's for sure. and he's an asset, why would we just put him out there for all the other teams to take him for free, and not get anything for him?
  21. yeah, except that nobody is giving up their 1st this year.
