  1. It's part of being in a Canadian market isn't it? When times are good, nobody criticizes the team about anything. Go with the flow. But when things are bad, they're really bad. Green, I think is a decent coach. He's not as bad as fans make him out to be, but he's not a top tier coach either. He's kind of middle of the pack - kind of like the team and the organization as a whole. But the slow starts do worry me, and the fact that they can't seem to hold onto a lead also worries me. What's most concerning is that they seem to be playing from behind since the beginning. Is it a systems issue? Maybe, but it's still also quite early. I mean, Toronto is 3-4-1, aren't they? And their fans are going ape $&!# over in TO. If the team loses tonight, I can't wait for the post-game show on SN650, and I'll be checking in on these board to see what the community's saying. WIth that being said, I expect the team to come out strong and win. Halak I think will play a good game and give the team a chance tonight. But my eyes will be on specific players like Petey, Boeser, Miller especially since those three have been mediocre. The team will only go as far as our top six will bring us. If Petey wants to play for a winner, he needs to contribute and lead. I see how Bo plays. It doesn't surprise me at all, that he's captain. When the team is down, like they were against Minny, he put them on his back and scored that 2nd goal. Unfortunately it wasn't enough to go into OT and win the game. But the rest of the top six didn't show up, and he did at least try to do something. Can't say the same thing with Miller, Boeser and Petey at this point in time. Step up, or shut up.
  2. picks always count of course. But maybe there was pressure to compete and push. Teams that do that, use draft capital to add to their team (ala trade deadline). Teams that generally aren't there, don't usually use their draft picks to "upgrade" their team. I've always thought it to be very strange for Benning to trade away his draft picks for more immediate help. But looking back, it's probably more of a mandate that was from ownership than it was him. He's an amateur scout at heart. Draft day is what he lives for.
  3. OH. Philly playing their backup? OK. He’s probably going to be a wall and we won’t be able to score against him.
  4. So what are injury updates? Is Poolman good to go? Dickinson?
  5. Minnesota is a good team. They’re 5-1 (last I checked) on the season. So, I’m not surprised that they beat us. It’s super early in the season, still. But this homestand really is critical. If they’re under .500, pressure on the team will mount. With regards to Green. I like him and am frustrated with him at the same time, if that makes sense? He hasn’t had any NHL experience paying his dues, if you will as an assistant. He did jump straight from the AHL, and some coaches when they do that, need some time to grow. This is technically Green’s first NHL gig, most coaches that become successful over a longer period of time, don’t usually survive their first NHL gig. Green definitely isn’t “seasoned” and if he is, he’s being “seasoned” now in his current role as the HC of the Canucks. I’m not sure if he survives this season to be honest. There’s a lot of pressure to make the playoffs, and if he doesn’t get the team there, I’m not sure he comes back next season, or if they’re badly out of the postseason race, I’m not sure he survives the season. I can see Shaw become head coach if that happens.
  6. I mean, if we claim him, he'd have to be on our roster right? Do we have room for him? Is he any better than say, Bailey? And where would he fit in the line up?
  7. Players like Hedman are usually aquired through the draft. if you don't ever draft them, you won't get them. On the rare ocassion, you'll find gems in the middle to late rounds. But yeah, would actually take too much to acquire a player like Hedman, and there's no way Tampa Bay would let him go.
  8. If Brock doesn't have a good season, that's good for the Canucks in terms of contract negotiations. Petey I have confidence will get going. Like I've said earlier, I'd like to see where Petey and the team is at 15-20 games into the season. If Petey hasn't gotten going at that point, then it'll be very concerning to say the least. And if the team is hovering below .500 at that point, then yeah, we'll be having all sorts of problems.
  9. No way I'm trading the 2022 first round pick for Savard, he's on the wrong side of 30. That's just a bad trade looking to get worse.
  10. this is a joke right? Petey's struggling at the moment, doesn't mean he won't get going. He's also healthier than Eichel is. There is so many risks with Eichel. For a team like Vancouver where we need to start making the post-season and start contending, this won't be a good deal. There is so much unknowns with Eichel. If he flops and he is no longer the player he was once, then our season is done, and we start another rebuild. Entering into Edmonton territory at that point. Just for health reasons alone, I'd say no. Would also take too much to acquire him.
  11. Not sure what Green sees in Baumgartner. I agree, that if he's responsible for the defensive structure, the team looks more lost this season so far than they have ever. If Green doesn't let Baumer go, he's going to go first and then Baumgartner's going to go after. I don't get it.
  12. Hunt is a journeyman, so yeah, I think he needs to be in the AHL. Rathbone, based off of last night's game, will have nights like this. He's a young first year defenseman in the NHL. It's bound to happen. Do we have enough depth to replace a guy like him? Does putting Schenn in actually make us better? Can't wait until Hamonic is up to speed. I think Hughes needs a partner like that to stabilize at least the top four, now that Poolman is out with an injury. Any word on his status?
  13. Yeah. Some of the names of the arenas in the States is...very weird. Anything for the corporate dollars, though! Krispy Kreme Arena. Can't believe that isn't a name for an arena in the NHL yet.
  14. I think it's more 'punishment' in the way I understand things. They really screwed up on this. Looks terribly bad on the organization from top to bottom. And this isn't going to go away from them or the league anytime soon.
  15. I think providing an environment where young players learn to win is also really important. At the expense of development? No. But they need to attempt to balance that as much as possible. Winning at the expense of developing the young Canucks? No. Win with the young players that are being developed by the organization. Lose a few games, make those teaching sessions, so that players like Silovs, Dipiertro, Woo, Lockwood, etc, etc., all are getting better with time.
  16. Yeah. Can't really defend Green on this one. But Minny's players also came to play. Vancouver's top six didn't even show up. Miller, Boeser, Pettersson, etc. When you have at last half of your top six not showing up to play, well, you're going to lose more times than not.
  17. Think Winnipeg probably is the next team that probably wins the Cup. Aside from that, oof, since this is a Canucks message board, I'm going to say the Canucks. Also, because I really want them to win it.
  18. #&^@#theblackhawks I hope there is heavier fines coming their way. 2M?? You gotta be &^@#ing joking me. That's less than what the league fined New Jersey for their Kovalchuk situation.
