  1. I am hopeful that Jake will become a huge part of the team moving forward. Like you say, it is early days, and it's a long season. I hope Jake becomes consistent with his play on the ice. He definitely seems like he's matured, and is taking his play on the ice more responsibly. Have you noticed a difference with his play from last season and so far this season?
  2. Did you feel like he had a quicker release last year compared to this year so far?
  3. I didn't get to watch the game either. Was just following the boxscore. But....two points!
  4. two point night for Jake against the Sharks. Good on him! I think he's going to have a great year ahead. Super happy for him, and I hope he keeps playing well with Horvat. He's on pace for 41 points this year, and I hope he keeps it up
  5. I'm happy with the acquisition as well. He's been terrific so far this season. Hope he will keep it up. I think we probably keep the first round this year, assuming we miss the playoffs. If we do miss, I don't think it's going to be by much (unless injuries of course). Can you imagine if we added another high profile first round selection to this already deep, and deepening collection of young talent? Might be giving Colorado a run for their money soon. And that's not even talking about Podkolzin coming in after his contract in the KHL is done
  6. generally not, but when you have a player that has been playing as well as Schaller, maybe gotta be aware that he's on the ice. Of course, teams won't game plan to shut down Schaller. LOL. he's going good offensively, but not THAT GOOD!
  7. I agree that Benning's focus on character was for good reason. Pettersson, Juolevi, Boeser, Horvat, Hughes etc., all have a ton of character, and they have a ton of skill on top of it all. These are special players, and special days are ahead without a doubt. I'm excited about this season, and about the future. Some people criticize how the goals are coming against bad teams. Like AV used to say, there are no bad teams in the NHL. Every team is a 'good' team, and if you take any team lightly in the league - they will burn you. It's not easy scoring goals in the NHL, so when the Canucks put up 5 goals against the Caps, and then another 7 against Florida. The future is very bright for this club and its fans. We've been soooo spoiled. Westcoast Express era, Sedin era, and now we are entering the Pettersson, Horvat, Hughes, Boeser era. If we don't make the playoffs this year, we're going to be really close to it. I'm banking on next season being the year we definitely make the postseason.
  8. 2.5 too much. I don't think he will score 15 goals, maybe 10-12? He's going to slow down, I think eventually. Teams will focus on him and try to shut him down offensively, and by the time the new year rolls around, he's going be checked tighter because teams are going to be buckling down with regards to the playoff chase. It's going to be harder to score.
  9. I'm not criticizing your opinion on Jake. I'm wondering why start another thread on Jake, when there is one that already exists. Don't take it personally, just my thoughts, like you say. And by the way, it's Juolevi Peace
  10. A part of me feels like he's deferring to both Boeser and Miller on his line. I want Pettersson to be shooting and be a little selfish with the puck. He can rip it without a doubt. The other part of me just thinks it's still early days, and he'll get the goals coming in. If Boeser and Miller get going, that only creates more room for EP40 when the defense tries to focus on the other two.
  11. 14 points in 11 games, and he's being "stiffled"? I guess maybe Green's coaching "stifles" Pettersson's creativity, but he came out tonight with 3 points. I think he's finding his offensive groove to be honest, and so is the rest of the team. Jake has had 3 goals in the last 3-4 games? Horvat got a hat trick against Detroit, etc, etc. They scored 5 goals against Washington, and then poured another 7 on the Panthers. 12 goals in two games. The team seems like it's going. I'd also like to mention that Demko's been playing great when he's gotten chances to start. He's young at 23, but all signs are pointing him to being an elite goaltender in the NHL . I think Markström will eventually be moved. I'm not convinced Dipietro is NHL starter. But he's also off to a good start in the A. Anyways. I like Green. He hasn't been given much to work with the last several years, this year, he has a lot more talent on the roster, and the team is 7-3-1 so far into the season. Let's see where they're at, at the 25 game mark
  12. Jake scored a goal tonight. Seems to be playing well. Sometimes fans just worry too much. Let's live in the moment, and the moment is that Jake is scoring, and he's playing in the top six - beside Bo's wing. I think he's going to be there a while. Seems like Virtanen and Horvat are having some good chemistry. Let's see how much more it can blossom.
  13. Alf. I'm a huge fan of Jake. Always have been and am still rooting for him to break out offensively. Let's not put the cart before the horse here. Jake has been playing well recently, but I still want a larger sample size to see if his play is the real deal or not. I think people have kind of just 'settled' with Jake, not really having any heavy or huge expectations anymore. And so any indication of a breakthrough is garners a huge response from the fanbase. With that being said, I hope he plays well tonight against Florida.
  14. Honestly, I think that Bartschi is an upgrade over Leivo offensively, and generally speaking as well. The only area that I think Leivo has a leg up on, is probably board work, and physicality. Baer is a little low on both those, he's not the most physical player (Leivo is better here). But I'll take 'lesser' Bartschi in two of those areas, than Leivo. Bartschi isn't also bad defensively. But he provides a lot more offensively than Leivo has so far this season. I think Leivo is playing slightly above his pay grade. He'd make a terrific third liner, and probably even a decent fourth line player. But a second line player? He hasn't been able to produce offensively. So, no thanks.
  15. Agree that Jake seems to be playing well lately, even if the points haven't been piling on. I think Virtanen stays there until Green feels like he's not doing a good job anymore. Leivo I think has to be the odd man out. I think Pearson stays on the second line, Virtanen has just replaced Leivo. Is Leivo replacing anyone on the third and fourth lines? I doubt it. I think he becomes the extra forward, honestly. Good depth, but I'm not sure if the player is going to be happy. Would love to see Bartschi eventually return to the big club.
  16. Schaller has been playing great. team loss to Washington, but Schaller had two goals, if I remember correctly.
  17. would be a great time to sell high on Tanev
  18. Maybe the Canucks can strike some kind of deal to keep Markstrom, and for Seattle to select someone else on the roster. I'm assuming we are going to lose one of those guys. It better be Demko that management keeps. Markstrom has been solid, and if he can sustain, will be elite level, but for how long? Can the Canucks still compete for the playoffs with Demko in net and as starter? I find it difficult that they'd let Demko go, after having to groom him to become inevitably their starter, for so many years. The organization has invested in so much into Demko. For Seattle to have a goalie we've groomed, and invested into so much, ugh, great way to spark a rivalry, I guess? I'm a big fan of Thatcher, so I say, keep the kid (23 years old, and he's performing pretty well this season).
  19. Agreed. Even with the Seattle expansion looming, I can't see the team moving a younger tender with as much potential as Demko, for a soon to be 30 year old Markstrom. Demko, to me, is the organization's goalie of the future. I'm not as sold as most on Dipietro. I don't think he's as elite as Demko is, and I'm not convinced that he's got 'starter' ability in the NHL. Might be a very good backup in the league, but I'm not convinced he's starter material.
  20. I don't even know if doing that will work for him at this stage. It's not like he hasn't been told to drive the net. I haven't seen all the games, but the one I have seen Jake play, he drives to the net, only to stop, and look for a play. He's so big and heavy that defenses would have such a difficult time handling him, and preventing him from going to the net. How many penalties could Virtanen draw by driving to the net? But he seems like he's too lazy to drive to the net (that's hard work, isn't it??). I love the guy, and I am a big fan of his only if he can become the player I think he can become with all that oozing potential. But if he's going to remain a bottom six forward, then count me as one of those players as someone who's off the Virtanen wagon. Something's gotta click with him eventually right. RIGHT?
  21. Good to see Ferland playing better and more physically engaged. Think he's got a lot to offer to Virtanen about teaching him to be more aggressive offensively, but also a little bit more engaged offensively.
