  1. I think Bartschi in general is at risk. Hockey is a physical game, so whether he's up with the Canucks or in the AHL, he's in danger of having his NHL career put to rest. I feel bad for the guy. He doesn't deserve to have his career come to an end, with very possibly, one more concussive hit, and that's very real possibility. Can't help but think that's at the back of his mind, and probably alters his game quite a bit. Time will tell, though...
  2. Kassian having himself quite a game? 2 points so far tonight?
  3. haven't been able to watch the game tonight. how has he looked tonight?
  4. first game of the season. rust is to be expected, even after preseason games. things tighten up really quick at the first game of the season for all the teams, cause the games now mean something. they'll get it going eventually. hoping for a win tonight, but if they don't, that's ok. they'll get their fair share of wins, and they'll develop greater chemistry 2-1!!!!
  5. The kid has maturity issues, that's for sure. and probably entitlement issues as well. i don't know if i'd call him a bust just yet. this year is a huge year for him. if he breaks out, we aren't calling him a bust. but if he doesn't make much progress from last year's goal, point, and assist totals, then he's basically solidified himself a bottom six forward for the rest of his career. An NHLer to be sure, but he could've been so much more.
  6. Let's hope his concussion isn't as badly as first reported. Would be a bad way to start the season for him.
  7. You're right. There is no "consistent" proof. but there is evidence that he can do it. It does take more than just one player being able to score goals. Laine needs to be given powerplay time, good line mates etc etc. He scored 44 goals in his second season. I think he can be a consistent 40 goal scorer, maybe not every year, but I think most years, he can hit low to mid 40's. He's done it as a 19 year old. He scored 36 in his first season, 44 in his second, 30 in his third. He's not declining for sure. Just starting his career. I think he'll figure things out. He's one of the NHL's young stars. But your right as well in that he is a one dimensional player. if he doesn't improve on that, then maybe he does not become a perennial 40 goal scorer. I also think Brock has the ability to be a better long term goal scorer than Laine. Reason is I think Boeser's a more complete player than Laine and he's got a better centreman in Pettersson. Who does Laine have? Little? IF he played with Schiefle then maybe. But EP over any of Winnipeg's centres any day
  8. Yeah, that's very possible actually. Or Benning and Co., draft a few more right wingers to eventually take Virtanen's place. I think there is a sense of entitlement with Virtanen. Management mishandled him unfortunately, and brought him up way too early, and now he feels like he deserves a spot on the team without having to work too much for it. Sad situation really. But it is what it is right now. Podkolzin can take Virtanen's place in a couple of years, but that also depends if he's actually coming over to NA. I still hope that Jake will break out this season. I have relatively high hopes for him.
  9. I think Jake can definitely get 35 points this season...maybe 40 points if he can stay healthy, and semi-consistent. If he drops off like he did last year, then i think maybe a little more than the 25 points he produced this past season. And no, I don't think he will be asking for "too much money" - he's not going to be hard to negotiate with, because he really hasn't produced offensively...yet.
  10. Really hoping that Jake has a great start to the year, and see if he can battle through his consistency issues. One of many concerns, I am sure. Must be really hard being a local and being a Canuck. Perhaps the reason for why some local born BC players never actually come back to play for their hometown. With that being said, C'MON JAKE!!!
  11. There's a reason why he's not coaching in the NHL. Even the Kings had to move away from him. lol. couldn't even last a full season with the Kings. How bad was he? two of the worse teams in the NHL, he coached, and neither of them wanted him. With that being said, I wish him luck wherever he's currently at.
  12. Was listening to SN650, and one of the guys (not sure what his name is), suggested to waive Virtanen Jake has issues, to be sure, but that suggestion is just crazy. He'd be claimed immediately.
  13. If the Canucks traded Jake right now, that would be silly. Poor asset management. Selling low, for sure. With that being said, Jake's time is running out. He's running out of opportunities, and to be sure, there are hungrier players that are coming up the pipelines. He's not gauranteed a spot moving forward.
  14. had the same problem, i'm not sure you can resolve it?
  15. No kidding eh? Bennett not even a top six forward and he was taken so early in the draft. Del Colle seems to be a bust at this point. If the Canucks had taken him, he would be absolutely been crucified, and so would Benning.
  16. I'm not convinced that Jake will ever amount to a top six forward. He has tantalizing set of skills, but similar but not completely the same - as Goldobin, where the growing sense is that he may never actually put everything together to become an effective, point producing NHL player. He will get his points, but I get the feeling that Virtanen's biggest threat to his career will be his consistency. He just doesn't show up every game. I hope, again, that I am wrong, because I absolutely like Jake as a player. I believe in him, which is why often times when he's disappointed, it really isn't just disappointing, but it's really disappointing. He has all the skills in the world to make a difference in the best league in the world, and at least up until now, he's not quite there yet. This season is a big one for him, because after this season, I get the sense that the fanbase is pretty much going to see him for what he is. If he doesn't score 20 goals this year, he's going to be seen as a disappointment unfortunately. I'm still willing to give him probably another 2-3 years after this year, and see if he's the classic "powerforwards take longer to develop' - I mean, how much more disappointed can we be at that time?
  17. Probably just rumors coming out of their behinds. Not likely substantial sources to really indicate that Virtanen is being shopped.
  18. I think it's too early to say. Since he is so young still at 21? He will become a perennial 40 goal scorer, but if he can't round out his overall game, then he's probably just gonna be an average player all around, with elite goal scoring ability. Pretty one dimensional player to me. But guys like that get paid in the NHL, even if they are one dimensional Does Laine remain a Jet? That's what I'm curious to see. Stalmate where neither Jets management budge, or Laine's camp budges? Who would you guys rather have? Boeser or Laine? I don't necessarily see Boeser as a perennial 40 goal scorer, but I think he can reach 40 goals a few times throughout his career. I see him more of a 30-35 goal scorer, and of course with these things, I'd love to be wrong.
  19. No kidding right? that's crazy, i'm not sure how the Leafs are going to build their defense. How much money is committed to their big three? I guess maybe that'll be the Canucks eventually right? We will have to pay EP, and Boeser and Hughes and even Bo's going to want a raise eventually.
