Pressure has definitely moved from Juolevi to Hughes. But that's partly because Juolevi is no longer the only defensive prospect, Hughes is at the top of that list. And I'm glad that is, because all eyes will be on Hughes, but Juolevi is able to just play hockey and kinda go under the radar. That's a good thing for Olli. I'm hoping and expecting strides for him, as he's getting healthy, I'm curious to see what he can bring to training camp. It might be a couple of years since he's been drafted, but this seems to be the first time in a while that he's been healthy. I hope he isn't another Sami Salo. Already injured so often at such a young age, I hope it is not a sign of things to come.

Article lost all credibility with that mistake

Think it might be a stretch to see Kielly is high end goalie like Demko seems to be. But like many posters here have written - goalies are so unpredictable to predict. Personally, I'd keep Demko, and see what we have in Kielly. If he turns out to be an NHL tender, that's great. It would give Benning multiple options - trade Markstrom, trade Demko, or trade Kielly (assuming of course, his value is where we hope it could be - enough that another NHL club would be interested and trade for him).

I’d take things like this as rumor.

That really is too bad. The Schneider-Horvat deal turned out, for us, to be a really good deal. Thank God that Gillis didn’t screw that one up. Luongo though I thought we could’ve gotten a better deal for him. But we’re handcuffed due to the fact that he wanted to only go to one team - the Panthers. Or at least that was what was perceived by media and the fans. Wish Luongo was in many way still a Canuck. I miss him. Greatest goaltender this franchise has ever had, hands down. And we still couldn’t win the Cup

That’s true. The term is thrown and used lightly quite often. But Demko seems to me at least, and hey, I’m not a professional scout or anything, but he seems like a really high end solid goalie prospect. I’m loathe to trade away players like that. Good thing I’m not the GM I’d classify Markström as a really solid goaltender at this stage. I’m not convinced he’ll ever become elite, though I hope to be proven wrong and hope he has a fantastic season coming up.

I’m never of the mind of trading elite young goaltenders. Markström is good. But he in my opinion has a lot to prove still. im not convinced that Dipietro is going to be a starter let alone a star in the league. He may very well be a back up goalie in the league. But I’m not sure if he’s starter material. Demko seems very promising. I think it would be a mistake to trade him at this stage of his career. All the other goalies you’ve mentioned career depth goalies.

Interesting to note that Couturier was for the first several seasons of his NHL career, averaging around 30-40 points a season, and then he suddenly bursted out offensively, like you say, the last two years with 76 point seasons. If that's where Sean's at, at 26 years old, then I'm excited about where Bo's going to be at by the time he's around that age. 80 point player possibly during his peak years?

well, you obviously have to score too. but if you can't defend, then scoring really doesn't matter. You could say that Boston was able to score, in 2011, but they also held the Canucks with their defensive play. The Canucks on the other hand, you could say, couldn't score, and couldn't defend, which led them to lose the championship.

[Rumour] Puljujarvi to play in Finland until he is traded
N4ZZY replied to The_Rocket's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
They definitely should not take less, but i'm not sure how Holland's going to get much in return from other GM's. -
Yeah, that's true. Jake's not very big, but he can sure hit (if he chooses to) I think Podkolzin will be able to hit like Jake, but has much better hands to score more goals, and just points in general. Also, I think Pod's hockey IQ is probably better than Virtanen's.

[Report] Canucks sign GM Jim Benning to contract extension

the poll here is pretty positive on Benning. It ain't like that on Reddit -
[Report] Eriksson “NOT” likely to be moved on
N4ZZY replied to Provost's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I can see Benning and Co. playing hard ball with Loui. I wouldn't be surprised that management send Eriksson to Utica, especially if he doesn't earn a spot in the line up. It's really sad how far his career has degraded, especially offensively. -

Yeah. I guess that's true. But I'm sure other players who will be drafted into the Oilers organization, they're watching this situation, and if they're not, their agents are. JP certainly did create this, but I'm not sure if I can blame him for wanting out of an organization that has stockpiled countless of top five, and top ten draft picks, only for many of those picks to not "pan out". If I'm the player, I'm afraid that the organization has mishandled me, or will mishandle me. That's not great for my career, so I'm looking to get out, and get to the best situation possible. JP may want to develop well, maybe he can do that in Finland - regain some confidence that he had in his game before it all deteriorated with Edmonton. If he's just not that good, then there's no loss for Edmonton. Kinda like Nail Yakupov. No loss to the organization, because he wasn't any good of a player. Even though JP is only 20 years old, he was a top three pick. And someone picked that high, is expected to contribute at the NHL level pretty quickly. He hasn't done that. Sure, he's still young, but I'm not sure if I'm a GM of another club, that I would want to give up too much to take on a player who's potentially a bust. -
[Report] Canucks sign GM Jim Benning to contract extension
N4ZZY replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
I was surprised at the news of Benning's extension. But I'm not surprised either, like a few other fans have been. I think in light of how the organization has drafted in previous years, this has to be the 'best' years of the organization's drafting. The point keeps being brought up that there is no GM that has hit on all of their picks 100 percent of the time. And that is certainly true. Benning has done the best he's been able to do, especially when he first came to the team. I remember he was dealt a crippled hand with the whole Kesler situation. And while he's "missed" on Juolevi and Virtanen (who may not have been the best pick at the time, but he will be a serviceable NHL player, I think), he's also hit on players like Boeser, Pettersson, Hughes, and perhaps Podkolzin. He's a good drafter, which is what he was brought in to do, and over the course of the last several years, Benning, has improved on other areas of his managing abilities. Yes, he's signed Eriksson, and that was a mistake looking back, but I believe he's trying to deal with that mistake. He hasn't been afraid to admit that he's made mistakes with certain acquisitions, that's better than a GM that doubles down, and refuses to admit their mistake. I'm looking forward to this upcoming season. FINALLY, it feels like we may be on an upswing, and not wasting the fruitful and productive years of Brock, Bo, Petey and Hughes. That's our core moving forward, maybe Podkolzin when he eventually gets here. Jim's deserved this extension. I don't know how long his new extension is (2 years was the rumor?), but we'll see after that whether he gets a longer leash, or not. But this is a vote of confidence by the owners for sure. This is good news as well, because organizations need stability. Changing GM's every couple of years is a recipe for disaster. At least we're not Edmonton ' -
[Signing] Canucks sign Oscar Fantenberg

Miss those two players. Big Country was decent, but Shareef was such a good player for us, even when we were losing a ton. I miss the Grizzlies. -

I don't know how Edmonton benefits from this situation with JP. He doesn't want to return to Edmonton, and Edmonton won't get much for JP. He's young yes, but right now, i think, he's seen as a reclamation project in the eyes of many around the league. -

What are you talking about LOL. Sorry if I don't see it, but what pattern are you seeing? -
He's still without a contract right?

Ahh. Thanks for clarifying that for me. Appreciate it.
