  1. Soooo. Puljujärvi for a 3rd round pick? I don't think Holland's going to get anything more than that. Puljujärvi is basically a project at this point. He hasn't progressed as well as he should have. What team is going to offer Edmonton more than what they can get him for cheap? Holland at a disadvantage here. Just sell at a loss, get rid of him, and move on. If the Canucks could acquire him, and rehabilitate his game, that'd be a huge win for us. But I doubt Edmonton would trade him to a divisional rival. There's risk that he could bounce back, and haunt them for years.
  2. I don't know about being 30 and still having "potential" Most NHL players, if they're any good, are showing that they're good and productive players by 22-24 years old. If they're not showing that they're capable by the time they're 24-25 years old, then it's probably time to cut ties with said player. Goldobin is still young at 23, but he's approaching that place where he's running out of time to show he belongs in the NHL. The Canucks haven't been very good the last couple of years, and he's been on a bad team and can't seem to crack the line up on a bad NHL team - what does that say about him? Like others on the forum here. I'm rooting for Goldy to put it all together. But he doesn't have a lot of time to do that. Either he gets his defensive game together, and gains the trust of Green, or he's either waived and becomes another organization's problem, or he's included in some sort of trade. I can't see Goldobin beating out Miller, or even Ferland for that matter. So where does that leave him in the top six if there's available spots there to even earn? Top six in my mind: Horvat, Miller, Ferland, Pettersson, Boeser, _____________. The blank could be Goldobin, could be Pearson. Could even be Bärtschi, or Virtanen. With Pearson and Virtanen they can at least still play a role in a middle six role. Goldobin seems to either be top six or bust.
  3. have a tendency to agree here that the other clubs in the league will not be looking to bail us out. they'll want an advantage in order to be taking on Eriksson's contract, because, quite frankly, it's terrible. So either we give up another draft pick for another club to take on Eriksson and his albatross of a contract, or we give up a decent prospect. At the end of the day, Benning and Co., can always bury Eriksson's contract in the AHL, but how much do they save by doing that? And I am almost certain that's not nearly enough cap relief to sign Boeser.
  4. I dunno. I still kinda think that the fourth line is a grinder line. Hockey doesn't change that much to be honest. And many of the GM's I find are very much traditional and old school mentality. It doesn't surprise me that many coaches still see the fourth line as just that. Be defensively good, and chip in offensively if you are able to. But it's not a place where offensive players could develop their games, because that's not their roles on the fourth line. The first two lines, I find, still get the most ice time, and depending on the game, maybe the third line (if defence is often needed to protect a lead). The fourth line generally has the least amount of minutes. I'd say that if Virtanen is stuck on the fourth, he's never going to amount more than anything than just that - a grinder in the NHL. I want to see if he can actually produce offensively in the NHL. Will that be with the Canucks? maybe not. But I hope he gets a long look, before management and/or coach deems him to only be a fourth line player. I think he has a chance to be so much more than that!
  5. Yeah. I agree. I'm curious as to how he stacks up in the preseason, but also when he gets a few games at the NHL level. Maybe the kid's a late bloomer? I'm not a pro scout or anything, but he does seem really intriguing, and he's a RD too, no?
  6. Yeah. I found the strategy to be a bit odd as well. But maybe JB feels very strongly with the pieces on defence that he's accumulated over the years. None of them it seems to this date, see to be a core piece of the defence, but you never know. Rafferty seems like an interesting prospect. He's older, but I get the sense that management is banking on one of these defensive prospects to be a late bloomer - kind of like Tanev was. Rafferty is a RD. Isn't Rathbone a RD as well?
  7. If Brock is signed for 4 years at 6-6.5 - I'd take that and run. If he signs for 5 years, I'd be more than willing to give him 7-7.5 million. I'm sure the Canucks want to sign him up long term. I'd see if they can sign Boeser to 5 years. I'd hate to negotiate both Horvat and Boeser's contract when they're both up at the same time.
  8. I would be optimistic except Sutter doesn't produce offence. LOL. Replace Gaudette there on the 3rd line centreman, and you might have something there with Virtanen and Ferland. Jake has a lot to learn from Ferland. And maybe that's partly where JB brought Ferland in, maybe? With that being said. I think JV18 is going to have a pretty good upcoming season. just a prediction.
  9. yeah. I'm stoked about the Ferland signing as well. Hoping that he's able to stay and remain healthy, if he can do that, he's going to have a big year this season, I think! Also. I'm surprised about the Ferland signing. I wasn't expecting it. But boy, with Miller and now Ferland, that's some toughness that's been added to the top six. A good mix of toughness, and elite skill with Pettersson and Boeser as well as very good centreman in Horvat. That's a good mix, in my opinion.
  10. I think that's a lineup that could challenge for a playoff spot, no?
  11. 650 a bunch of whiners. Same with 1040. But negativity seems to sell right? We have one of the worse sports talk personalities on the planet. Really is unfortunate that we aren’t given more quality in that regard.
  12. I get the sense that Virtanen if he remains in Vancouver and as a Canuck will never get the opportunity to be a top six forward. Fans always want to put him as a bottom six player. I’d switch and give Virtanen the benefit of the doubt and start him at least on the third line with injuries coming, giving him spot duty on the second line. Let’s see if this young man can solidify himself as a top six forward.
  13. Don’t you just hate the impatience of ownership sometimes. Sigh....
  14. I think that's a pretty crowded line up right now. If that's the line up, with no major additions coming, then I see Gaudette starting in the AHL for more seasoning. Hoping that Sutter can remain healthy, and perhaps be dealt at the trade deadline for picks or prospects. I see this line up: Miller/Peterssson/Boeser Ferland/Bo/Virtanen Pearson/Gaudette/Leivo Motte/Beagle/MacEwen Goldobin as the extra forward, or he's dealt before the season because I don't see how he supplants himself in the top six. And if that's where he needs to be to thrive, then it's probably going to be somewhere else and not here in Vancouver. I say with Virtanen. to give him a shot there, if it doesn't work out, then I'd switch Virtanen with Pearson. Sutter needs to go, because he's a black hole offensively. Nobody playing with him is going to produce very much.
  15. Perhaps you have a point about Sutter. I think his term was a little too long. You could probably argue the same thing with Eriksson too. He produced and was the top UFA the summer he signed with the Canucks. 30 goals is nothing to sneeze at. Nobody could have predicted that he fell off the world the way he did shortly after he signed. What in the world happened there? I've never seen anything like that. How you could go from 30 goals to less than 10 in one season. That really is crazy.
  16. I think some people think that JB is dumb AF. And he's certainly made mistakes (Eriksson, Sutter, etc), but he's also made some really good moves for this franchise (drafting EP40, finding Brock later 1st round, etc). He's definitely going for it, I think he sees that if he doesn't make the postseason this year, he's probably not coming back next year as GM. So obviously he's wanting to come back. And he has made improvements every year he's been the GM here. I like his drafting, it's been better than all the other GM's that we've had (for the most part) in the history of this franchise. He's been solid. Could he be better? Yes. I think so, of course. I like Miller, and I like Ferlund. Those two in the top six will help. They're not just goons, they have offensive capability, and they're also "tough" to play against as well. That'll help both Boeser and EP40. I hope after these trades, Benning doesn't trade Boeser That'd be the worse.
  17. Wow. Did not expect this signing at all. But I am pleasantly surprised that we got Ferlund! 3.5 mil for four years? That's a pretty good deal, I'd think. Don't know how Ferlund couldn't have gotten a better deal elsewhere, for longer term, and perhaps more money. This is great news. The concern like other posters have suggested is what about Boeser's signing, and who are they going to move out that's going to clear some cap space - Sutter, Eriksson? Those are the only two players that we have that are just so heavy with their salary. I'm excited about the move obviously. But wondering how they're going to get under the cap with this signing, and Boeser not even signed yet. Are we either going to waive those veterans, and bury them in the minors, or there's a trade in the works for those veteran players, but we'd have to sweeten those deals by giving up either prospects or even more draft picks.
  18. I'm curious as to see where Goldobin is at when training camp arrives. Is he the same player with little to no improvement? Or has he changed, worked on his weaknesses, and comes in with focus and determination. Which Goldy will show up? If he hasn't changed at all, then, well, maybe time to cut ties and let him go...or find a team that'll take a flyer on him. 3rd round pick? 2nd round pick for Goldobin? He had 27 points last year, but felt like he was snake bitten, and should have had more than the 7 goals he totalled all last season.
  19. What about this trade offer: Van: Puljuljarvi Edm: Eriksson (50 percent retained as some have mentioned); Goldobin, and 4th round pick. Edmonton might want a 2nd or 3rd round pick. But for the Canucks to take on a project like Jesse is being considered at this point, then no. I don't care how young he is, he's approaching "bust" territory if he can't get his game together and soon. Canucks are taking a lot of risk for that. And Edmonton doesn't really have a lot of leverage when it comes to Puljuljarvi. He wants out. He's made that public. He's almost labeled as a "bust" as someone who has not lived up to his draft pedigree. I don't know how Holland could demand much of anything for this kid. That being said. Vancouver is a division rival. We'd be fighting for a playoff spot against the Oilers. So I think Holland would want more because he's dealing within the Division.
  20. It's crazy to even think Laine would be traded. He's an elite goal scorer, maybe not as well rounded in his game as say Ovechkin would be, but still - 40 goals isn't anything to sneeze about, and he's still only 21 years old. What would Montréal have to give up in order to get him in Canadien colours? I think Bergevin offer sheets him, because I think see how Montréal gets Laine without giving up a ton in return, almost to the point where they'd cripple themselves.
  21. Yeah. I can't understand some of Benning's contract signings that's caused the Canucks to be in a cap crunch. Not as bad as Vegas for sure, but still, we're not a playoff contending team, and for us to be having cap issues already, that's a little crazy. I can't see anyone taking on Sutter before the season begins. I can't see anyone taking on Eriksson without the Canucks having to sweeten the deal. But with what? We already gave away our 1st round pick for JT Miller in either next year or the year after. We don't have a lot of draft capital as an organization, even though I have to admit that Benning has drafted relatively well for the Canucks over the years. If Benning can get Gusev from Vegas without giving them much, that'd be crazy. But he hasn't proven he could swing a deal like that in his entire tenure as GM here. So I'm not getting my hopes high that Gusev becomes a Canuck. If anything, he remains within the Golden Knights organization, and remains in the KHL. Until either Vegas can get a good deal, or they themselves move out some salary and sign Gusev and he remains a Knight. But he ain't coming in Blue and Green colours unfortunately.
  22. Buffalo, I also think wins this trade. young RD defenseman, for a forward that still hasn't found his game, or at the very least struggling? Don't know what Chicago is thinking when they made the trade. Doesn't look great right off the bat. But we'll see. Nylander can still make it, if he can turn things around. That's a big if.
