  1. Highest drafted chinese player! So proud!
  2. The very least Benning is filling a need for the organization. Defensive depth has been an issue. And he's picked a dman in every round if I'm not mistaken. Kind of following the draft this morning.
  3. Would love for Granlund to break out offensively. But the top six is gonna be a crowded place with all these young players looking to prove themselves come training camp. It's gonna be fun!
  4. I'd agree, Alf, that WD did mis-manage Jake. Didn't know how to handle the kid. That being said. Virtanen was arrogant as well. He needed some humble pie down in the AHL, and Greener, fortunately, was able to kick start his career again (even at a young age, he was, at that time, considered a bust by many on here). Willie's a nice guy. I don't hate him, but as a coach, he really was not a fit with this organization moving forward. Horvat, though, thrived within his system (I consider that a miracle, tbh).
  5. haha. I am relatively young. Not young, but I didn't follow the Canucks when they first broke into the league. But from my time of following the Canuck as a fan, Willie, in recent memory, has to be one of the worse. Who was worse in the course of the entire franchise?
  6. Desjardins has to be one of the worst coaches in this franchise.
  7. but if you score, you impact the game even more
  8. Pettersson will be good. But until he hits NHL ice, everything is up in the air, there are no gaurantees. However, based off of his demolishing of the SHL, he's projected to be a top six forward (first line forward, even?). But let's no get carried away. McDavid by far, is probably the best player in the NHL, and he's going to get better as he gains more experience, and when he's given an actual supporting cast to play with. Pettersson will be a good player, imo. But whether he's going to be challenging McDavid, or even better than him? I love Elias as much as the next fan, but might be a stretch. Though, I wouldn't mind be proven wrong
  9. Might be too soon to make him the point leader in the NHL. Let's see how he does this season, before we anoint him leading the league in offensive categories.
  10. We swing either way. Too negative, or too optimistic. I think, much like everything else in life, is going to be somewhere in the middle.
  11. Yea. I think 35-40 points is achievable for Pettersson. Wouldnt' be surprised if he passed that quickly.
  12. I think for EP, he's gonna be 40 points minimum this coming season. That's his baseline. 30 assists, playing with Brock and Bo? No probs. His hockey IQ is what's going to get him the points. Brock, if not for his injury, could've gotten 70+ points. I see Elias having at least a 40 point season with his lethal shot. There is lots of room for offense, since both Danny and Hank retired, and the three of Bo, Brock and Elias are going to carry that offensive load. I wouldn't even be surprised if Elias hit close to 60 points in his first full season (barring injury, of course). Now, if he doesn't? I'd be ok with that too. There's a steep learning curve, and his body needs to also adjust to the physicality of the NHL game. I think if he's on a point per game pace the first 20-25 games, teams are going to attempt to focus and shut him down, and they'll target his physical frame. Curious to see how the team, and Pettersson in particular will react to that physical intensity. Will there be push back from him, and his teammates? We need to sign a Dorsett replacement. Line up as is, is looking for injuries to mount. Reaves (from Vegas) - let's get him signed, and Archibald too. Those two would be great fourth line players, and depth guys that protect our young offensively minded players.
  13. I don't think Leipsic clears, if he's on waivers. Some team is going to take a risk taking him.
  14. Pettersson in the AHL? Please. The guy is so confident he's going to make it to the NHL. The AHL is a waste of time for this young man. NHL or back to Sweden another year. But he's got nothing to prove back home, so it's the NHL.
  15. this can only do good things to his confidence to be one of the more elite and complete players in the league as he enters into the summer for training.
  16. Which one of our forwards will be trade for a trade for defensive or center help? Baertschi? Goldobin (don't think he's going to fetch us much at this moment in time, tbh)? Granlund (not after the year he had)? Canucks with their 7th overall have to enter into the draft with BPA, irrespective if that's a forward or a dman. And then draft for need after that. First round picks need to always be BPA, cause you can always swing a trade later on. But if you don't get the BPA where you're picking, then you lose both ways.
  17. Horvat is captain material. Even in that video, he's so calm, cool and collected. And has elevated his play since his rookie year, 4 years ago (hard to believe it's already been 4 years!!). This core that's coming together needs to eventually make the playoffs for experience. I'm not convinced we'll be worse next season than this previous season. I think the Canucks could be close to about .500 for most of the season...
  18. Is that his off-season game plan? Do we know what he's targeting to work on specifically this off-season?
  19. I'd almost have a tendency to agree. Jake could be the finisher on a line with EP. With that being said, could you imagine a line with Brock and EP?? Brock scores 35-40....
  20. if jake develops those kinds of hands, he's an all star without question. with that being said, i'd be happy if he scored 15-17 goals next season. that's an improvement over this past season. and if he keeps working on his hands, wouldn't it be wonderful if he became a perennial 25+ goal, 40-50 point producer in the NHL? I'd take that.
  21. i am actually about Jake's invested interest in becoming a better handler with the puck, he said specifically he wanted to improve his hands (i hope that means his shot as well). but if he could dangle with the best of them, AND improved his shot this off-season, boy oh boy, we might be in for a special treat next season for a break out. here's to hoping!
  22. I think it definitely is hit and miss with the 6OA. but usually people and fans expect a top ten pick to work out more often than not. Horvat was selected at 9th overall, and he's a very good NHL player, and I think will become better. I'm glad management is being patient with Jake. Next season is really an exciting time for Canucks fans. Maybe the Virtanen that we all thought (and management too) should have arrived in 2014, is finally coming into shape and form after a few seasons of challenges. Jake has come a long way, and while the offensive production isn't quite there yet, I really do think next year he "breaks" out, with 30-35 points. Anything more than that for his first offensive season breakout, is gravy. I can see close to 20 goals (17-18 goals) and 15-20 assists given the right linemates. If he's given offensive linemates, then I think those numbers rise a little bit (40-45 points, perhaps).
