  1. I understand why they listed the players in the order that they did, that's no slight against Brock. But is Brock better player than Barzal? Hard to say. We're biased cause we're fans of this franchise and team. Their games are so different, though. Brock is a sniper, and will only get better as he gains more experience in the league. Barzal isn't necessarily a sniper as much as he is a playmaker. What could have been if Barzal and Brock were together in green and blue. OMG.
  2. good news hope he comes in faster and stronger
  3. William Karlsson is a good example. I agree. But he also wasn't drafted in the first round, 6th pick like Virtanen was, which is why Jake receives so much criticism. I think Virtanen's going to surprise a lot of people next year. Green really broke his game down, and is hopefully building it back up to the point that he can be a goal-scorer in this league. 20 goals next season? He's going to, in my personal opinion, get very close to it.
  4. I'm excited to see Jake work on his offense this summer of off-season training, and hoping that he takes his training seriously. to see him regress and taking it "easy" would be concerning. I'd like to see Green give Jake more o-zone starts, if he can get his shot up to speed, and even more wicked, he can score 20 easily this upcoming season.
  5. I hope Elias absolutely rips the league apart next year and &^@#ing wins the rookie of the year. He can give a middle finger while he's at it to Assman and the NHL headquarters while he's at it.
  6. Sautner has certainly played well when he was called up, I agree with other posters in observing that he did not look out of place at all.
  7. Jake had 10 goals this past season, i think he can get at least 15 this coming season, if not get close to 20 goals. 20 points this past season, with Green building more consistency to his game, defensively Jake is there already in the NHL game, his offense I think will come eventually. He's got the hands, and has admitted publicly that's going to be priority number one this off-season, which I am excited for. If he can contribute 15-20 goals this upcoming season, and secure 35-40 points, I think that's a huge win for his development. He would 23, and that's good progression, imo. He may never be a 100 point player in the NHL, but I think most of us are fine with that now (or have to be). If he can be a consistent, during his prime years, to be a 45-55 point player, I'd be tremendously happy about that. 20-25 goals, and 20-25 assists? Not too shabby. If he outgrows that, and statistically lights it up, that's great! Lots of factors, like, his personal development (his hands, reading plays, etc), linemates, and how Green is going to utilize him. I look at Granlund as an example. He scored 19 goals, which means he has the offensive tools to become an offensive player. But Green decided to use him in a different role. SO, if Green sees Jake the same way, then it doesn't matter, players need to be given roles in order to break out and succeed offensively. Another example is William Karlsson with Vegas. He scored 6 goals the previous year, and broke out with 45?? Wow. Maybe all he needed was opportunity, and a more offensive role with a team that took a chance.
  8. Maybe Jasek is starting to cool off after his hot start. Let's see what he can do now....
  9. so how did Dahlen do tonight?
  10. I agree with most of what you've said. I think it's premature to say Jasek will make the big club next season, even with his current pace of play. I don't think it's sustainable (1.5 ppg) at the AHL for him. I think he will come down to earth at some point. Now, with this being said, I hope he doesn't For a sixth round pick to break through offensively and play as if he was a 1st round draft pick - is some kind of luck for the Canucks. I am hoping that Jasek can continue to dominate the AHL and for longer stretches of play, and not just the six games. We haven't really heard too much of him lately, I'm not sure if that's because the AHL season is done or whatever and they're prepping for the postseason. Someone can set me straight on that one. As for Pettersson. I am super excited for this kid. He's 19. Just broke a longstanding SEL record (huge deal!). He's a stick physically, and he does need to fill out, or else he'd get abused physically and would often get injured on the ice, simply because of the physical demands of the NHL. So it would be in his best interest to get stronger, and fill out more than he currently is, to take the physical demands of the NHL. With that being said, skill wise, without a doubt he's ready for the NHL. The question isn't his skill so much as it is his body that can withstand the physical rigors of NHL play every other day, for an 82 game stretch.
  11. Boeser on the third line? I don't think that's happening. Your best goalscorer has to be on the top line and produce. If anything. Gaudette might be in the third line and work his way up if he can. I think Sutter will be the second line centre honestly to relieve pressure for the young players to produce offensively. Next season is going to be a tough year. But fans and media have been clamoring for a rebuild. Well. This is it. Don't complain. Honestly. I'm excited about what is going to happen next year whether we are good or not, at the very least or young players will be getting valuable experience in the NHL and that will only serve them to become better NHL players down the road. Looks like a really young team next season which probably means a steep learning curve.
  12. If Jake chooses to hit again. He could wreck McDavid and just about any other player in the league. The kid hits really hard if and when he decides to. And yes. I agree with you that once he gets his feet moving he's basically unstoppable in a straight line. But McDavid is a generational talent. Virtanen isn't even remotely close to that.
  13. yep. i agree. maybe Brock and he should spend the summer together to train. Brock could learn how to explode better off of his skates, and Jake can learn a thing or two about shooting accuracy from Brock.
  14. and hopefully pot 50 goals...errr, i mean, 20 goals...
  15. Yep. His hands now have to catch up to his feet. Reminds me a lot of Hansen, but with Jake, he's already better than Hansen was at the same age. Virtanen's going to be the better player, assuming of course, he continues to improve and grow his game. I think too many people make up a false narrative with his respect to his hockey IQ. He won't be a McDavid type of player, of course, but his hockey IQ, I don't think is as bad as some make it out to be. It's one of those things where, a narrative has started, and has stuck. Much like the Sedin narrative was that they were softies, and they were weak when they were anything but that.
  16. much like any young player, right? consistency. once they establish that (if), then they become regulars on the team, and are more depended and relied on. We have so many young players - Goldobin, Leipsic, Virtanen, and then unknowns like Pettersson, Dahlen, Lind, Gadjovich, etc, etc. Only time will tell who rises and who falls. Hoping that Leipsic rises, of course, but we'll see come September and training camp how far, or stagnant these players have come.
  17. fingers crossed man that he becomes a 50 point player with the right line mates
  18. Yep. I don't see him as a second line centre with the team either. BUT. if it happened, that'd be huge for the team moving forward. a good problem to have. Like you've said, and many other posters as well. I do see him as an elite third line centreman who can chip in offensively, and be very good defensively. Jake may have a spot beside Gaudette. IF Virtanen improves his hands a ton this off-season, he may even be capable of competing for top six minutes.
  19. haha. oops. my bad. Thanks for the correction!

    Ben Hutton | #27 | D

I'd agree with that statement. Yep. If Hutton was 21, or even 22, I think he'd have 2-3 seasons to prove his worth. The fact that Hutton is 25 (Don't know when he'll turn 26), he's running out of time. And the club isn't standing still either. They will make some signings (Carlson, maybe?), as well as the incoming draft picks this season, as well as dmen who are already in the system (Utica, or in Juniors). If Hutton comes back the same, he's not going to make the squad. Sautner when he was with the big club was showing some promise, and he played really well in his short stint with the club, could he be someone who is chomping at Hutton's rear end for a job with the team? Hutton standing still, means he's moving backwards. If that's the case next season, then the wake up call this season obviously didn't get to him. Time to cut and move on.
  21. If Gaudette turns into a top six forward, that's a HUGE win for management, and more importantly for the club. If he turns into a middle six player, that's a win still, for a guy drafted in the 4th round.
