to be fair. Hodgson, Schroeder and Grabner were supposed to play top six roles for the Canucks at the time they were drafted. but unfortunately their careers just never took off. though Grabner did have a good year when he was with the islanders. scored what. 34 goals? was that with Tavares as his centre?
-
I dunno. I think Schroeder was a combination of things. Utica wasn't under Canuck property. and he wasn't given a chance at top six role under AV. it was tough. and now his career is pretty much on nothing. he's a depth guy. a career AHLer.
-
Yeah. He's not top line material (though, one can hope!). But your probably right. Most likely a tweener of a player 2nd/3rd line player in the lineup. If he can contribute 10 goals next season, I'd say that's a good start for Rodin.
-
yeah. not sure if he contributes in the top six. but top nine for sure. he's not a fourth line player. so hopefully Desjardins doesn't play him there. doesn't make sense and wouldn't be putting Rödin in a position to succeed.

seems to be good to have dmen not panic when trying to make a play. we need some roght handed dman now to compliment those players.

seems like Willie's trusting Tryamkin more and more after each game. that should only give Tryamkin more confidence as he continues to play the final stretch of the season here. hoping he has a good offseason to work on his conditioning even more and game. I'm excited to see what he brings next year. can't imagine he goes to the AHL at the rate of his growth and play the last few games.

think the main issue for most is that they want Virtanen to be an offensive juggernaut that Nylander may become. seems like people think Nylander is more offensively dynamic and that's probably true. but I think the real issue is that fans want Virtanen to be like Nylander. an offensive player. and at least in his first year as a pro. doesn't seem like Virtanen has the offensive ceiling of Nylander. but we shall see. Virtanen may improve upon his statistics next year and people may not be happy then. personally. I'd be happy with improvement in his game.

glad to see that Jensen is doing better with Hartford.

it says that it's a serious leg injury...

you mean this. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DAz0rDXBcJc

we get it. you were in favour of drafting Nylander. what can we do about it now? lol. water under the bridge if you ask me.
-
didn't realize Nylander scored his fourth goal since he's been called up. not a bad start to his NHL career.
-
he needs to put on weight this summer. I can't really imagine him coming back next season with no weight gain. and he's probably gonna spend at least the first half of the season down in the AHL for development purposes. unless of course he forces managements hand again like he did this year. if the kid belongs he belongs. but if he's in the line up for next season. can't see him playing fourth line minutes. May as well just send him to Utica to play heavy minutes and in all situations.
-
it's a beginning of the process of making the d core much stronger than it is. hopefully Tryamkin and Hutton continue to develop. Hutton at least has proven he can play and seems to belong in the NHL level.

Virtanen unfortunately will be linked and compared to players such as Nylander and the like for a very long time. maybe the rest of his career. especially if he doesn't live up to the expectations this market and fanbase has for him. but that's a part of being drafted as high as he was. hope the kid lives up to his potential and kills the Leafs whenever we play them.
-
hope so! I'm really excited for Big T. he seems to be adjusting very well to the smaller ice in the NHL. cant wait to see how he will contribute once he gets even more comfortable with the systems and relationships with the rest of the team. excited to see what he can do with a summer full of training with the Canucks staff.

some people have said that we don't have any confirmed top six players. but Virtanen, McCann and Boeser seem like top six players to me. they're not at the moment. but they have top six talent and with their attitude and posture of learning and getting better. I think they'll be fine. if we get s top three pick. it's a no brainer to add to the mix of the top six quality of forwards. and then Benning drafts dman in the later rounds. this off season will be interesting for sure.
-
yep. probably not until the year after will he consider signing with the Canucks and leave school.
-
Jasek should be playing in the A next season. would be good for his development, and the Canucks can track his development better in their own system.

Does Tryamkin have good hockey IQ? In other words, if your big, but you don't have the hockey smarts, then yeah, not going to amount to much I don't think.
-
Yeah. I understand. I don't think he'll be a 6'8 pilon. I think he'll be a serviceable, NHL guy. If he turns out to be a star, the better, of course. But I feel like with a market and fanbase like ours, fans have a tendency to over-inflate the players we've drafted. Let's be realistic here. He's played in the KHL, which is a pretty good league, but it's not the NHL. He's played in larger ice surface, so he will definitely need to adjust (I think he'll be surprised at just how quick and challenging the NHL is compared to the KHL). I'm just saying, fans ought to temper their expectations on this kid next week. If he doesn't "play up to people's expectations" he's going to be crucified on these boards, and most likely on the radio as well. I agree! He does have the tools. And that's definitely exciting. Again. I'm hoping for the best, and fingers crossed that he makes the transitions that he needs to, to become a force in this league.
-
I'm excited just like everyone else. But I think we need to be cautious and careful not to have "other-universely-like" expectations for Tryamkin. I think he's going to be a good player, but don't think he'll be an all-star dman. He's a solid pick, but just because he's skating better than Chara did when they were the same age, doesn't mean that Tryamkin is going to be a better player. There's a lot of factors going into whether this kid is going to turn out or not. On a side note. It's good that management didn't expose him to Saturday's game on CBC, national television. That is a tremendous amount of pressure. Tryamkin will most likely be playing next week sometime. A little less publicity in terms of national coverage. Though, the media coverage in Van will be crazy when he suits up. I'm hoping Tryamkin is going to adjust quickly to NA ice. But let's temper our expectations for him!

Give him more time. I like Gaunce as well. Think he would make a good middle six, and a great bottom six player. It usually takes time for players (esp. younger players) to get used to the speed, intensity of the NHL game. Gaunce will get there, don't think he needs to go back down to Utica.
