I would switch Sutter's line with Horvat's line. think Horvat is able to play top six minutes. he's proven he can. though his plus minus is a little concerning.
-
Yeah! I'm excited and very happy with his growth and progression as well. He had another assist tonight against the Coyotes. Can he get to 20 points to end the year? That'd be pretty decent.
-
would that make vey expendable? i think if he's exposed to waivers next season - he's as good as gone (vey). he's performed well enough where he could be a depth type of player for another team.
-
I think Demko gets at least one year with Utica. There's no need to rush him, unless there's an injury to Markstrom or Miller next season. I also think Miller is gone by the trade deadline, unless we're contending for a playoff spot at the same time next season, which is a possibility based Sutter being healthy and Edler as well.
-
I guess what irritated me the most about Vey is that Desjardins gifted him a spot on the roster it seems and he was favoured. didn't seem like Vey earned his ice time. it was unlike the era of Vigneault where everyone has to earn their ice time. loved that for the most part about him. and missed that about him.

lol. it's your opinion that Jake isn't elite. and your entitled to it. but we are gonna support Virtanen and his development whether you and some other fans think he's gonna be good or not. or better than Nylander or Ehlers. I for one am happy and glad to see him doing well.

i was wondering why you had to post it FOUR TIMES! hehe But I agree with you. I think Benning's trying to undo what Gillis did (which was draft poorly...)
-
Have to admit that Benning's taking, I think, a calculated risk. He's traded away some picks and prospects that used to be in the Canucks system for other players from other organizations who are still fairly young, that have either fallen out of favor with said organization, or has stalled in their development in said organization. Baertschi comes to mind for the former example. Etem comes to mind in the latter example. I see Benning trying to restock Canucks with young players who haven't established themselves yet, but could very well break-through (i.e. Baertschi probably best example to date). Some seem like they're on their way, and some seem like they may not pan out (it's a risk) like Etem, Vey (though he has been playing better), Pedan, etc. Time will tell if those players will contribute to the team, and become impactful and effective NHLers.

haven't really observed Granlund's play as of late. but again. Shinkurak and Granlund are two different type of players. Granlund will maybe never amount to more than anything but a third liner. we don't know what we have yet. I'd give Granlund a full season next season before drawing conclusions about what we have. if he explodes into a second/third line centre/winger. then maybe we have something. but he's still young. he's a different type of player than even say Bäertschi. and probably doesn't even have the offensive ceiling that Bäertschi has or Shinkurak (if he fulfills his potential) has. but that's ok. we can't have every player like that on our roster. we need different types of players on the roster to round out the team. a team full of offense but no physical element or grinding element to the team will lose a playoff series. they won't get very far. a team that doesn't have defensive forwards who can help kill penalties and defend a lead won't win many games. but a team that doesn't have high ceiling type players who know how to score and accumulate points won't win too many playoff games or games in general. there's a mix. we need all kinds of players on this team moving forward in order to be successful. that's how I see it at least. Granlund isn't an offensive force. nor do I think he was brought in for that. he could be a very good fourth line centre. or an excellent third line centre. or a decent two way top six player. it's too early to tell right now.

yep. also feel like Virtanen was the right pick not only for this team. but for the conference in which this team plays in. we play in a physically demanding conference. Ehlers I feel would have been a good pick up even for the Canucks. but feel like Virtanen was equally as good. points are a good place to determine how a player is doing offensively of course. but sometimes making an impact on a game sometimes has more to do than just points. intimidation is a part of the game. Virtanen certainly at 19 with his body and weight can intimidate. what happens when he begins to put things together and becomes more consistent as an offensive threat?
-
yep. I'm more excited to see Jake not necessarily amp it up even more. but to see Jake put things together. we see. like you say, glimpses of what he's able to offer perhaps down the road. but I want to see consistency more than anything. I want him to bring his A game on a regular basis. every single night and shift. if he does that. he could have a much better and productive season next year. I think we need to also temper our expectations. he's done well and has been improving and processing the game a lot better. but still room for improvement this summer for a better season next year. I'm excited. as well as all other fans should be as well. and depending on who we draft this summer. he could be playing with better players. and good players who play with other good players have a tendency to have...well, good years
-
well. this is the Canucks board. what did you expect? lol. on the serious note. Ehlers is the better prospect....right now. but that doesn't necessarily mean he is the better player down the road. we have yet to see what Virtanen offers on a full time basis. Jake is just getting started. but yeah. Ehlers being the better prospect as of this moment? absolutely.
-
it would look really bad if Benning couldn't get eithe Boeser or Demko signed. patience! they will get those contracts done. most likely when the season is done (theirs and ours). the Kings won! oh look. better pick coming our way.
-
yeah. and well. you never know. I don't think it'll happen with Jake's development. but stranger things have happened. but yeah. I'm pro-Virtanen camp. I'm supportive of this kid and he's just gonna be better next season.
-
I really think so too. admittedly. I thought when he came back from the world juniors tounament. maybe it would have been discouraging for him and maybe caused him to lose confidence. I think that's why it's important to have veterans on the team like the Sedins. they can offer insight that perhaps players of the same age wouldn't been able to offer. I'm glad that he's responded the way he has. it shows just what type of player he is and more importantly what kind of man he is and will continue to become. especially when faced with adversity.
-
watching the game tonight. Canucks look good. especially considering the amount of youth they have in their line up. next season will be interesting. with all that being said I still want them to lose tonight. #tanknation
-
probably speed up by a week. probably won't hear anything until maybe next week. either that. or end of March. beginning of April.
-
yeah. and that's a fair analysis. no homerism in your statement. I think people had initially unreasonable expectations. as if every draft pick chosen had to contribute immediately or else they were busts. Virtanen was a high risk pick though in my opinion. should he fulfill his potential. he would be like you say. unstoppable. but if he doesn't. a sixth overall pick for a bottom six player is. well. not very good. no matter how you spin it. I think most fans here wanted so badly for Virtanen to be a top six player. he's versatile though. like Hansen. but with a ton more skill.
-
every player is going to be different right. and every player is going to effect a game differently. not every player is going to be a goal scoring player. not every player is going to be the physical beast of a player they can be. Jake and William are different players. Nylander registered one shot tonight against Buffalo. and was a -1. I think people might be too hard on these young guys. they are after all. 19. Jake's been improving his game all season. it's an improvement. people sometimes forget that most players drafted aren't Patrick Kane. or Jonathan Toews or Stamkos. the Sedins took a number of years before they became impactful players. Jake's trajectory this season is already quite impressive.
-
and you have the right of opinion for sure. I think jake is going to be a beauty of a player for us. recently. he's been playing really well. being physical. he's been shooting a lot more than he was at the beginning of the year. he's driving to the net a lot more. I think Virtanen and Nylander are different type of players. they will be effective in different ways. Nylander I think definitely has a higher offensive ceiling. Jake brings different elements to a game that Nylander perhaps doesn't have the skillset to do.
-
I guess that's true that there's really no pressure because it's the end of the season. assuming he gets some playing time with the Canucks.
-
I don't quite understand this. is the clause there (if true) because he refuses to play in the AHL? what if he's not developed to the point where he can be an effective NHL player? how does going back to the KHL help him? the KHL is a good league. but if it were that good. wouldn't there be more players coming over from that league? or wouldn't there be more scouts scouting players in that league? I think it might be a mistake for Tryamkin to leave without giving the AHL a chance for his personal development to be an effective and impactful NHL player. his size alone doesn't guarantee that he'll be a good player. he needs to have skills to go along with that size. or as my dad would say often "big for nothing" haha
-
see what he's got. if he doesn't have what it takes to be in the NHL. let him go. no loss to us. especially if he wants to play in the best league in the world.
-
woohoo! awesome. hoping to hear some news of his arrival soon. is he good to be playing some games? heard he has an injury of some kind. hand? shoulder?
