  1. I wonder what changed in his game? Like, did a switch or something just go off? Was it coach's decision to bring him along slowly and work with him on the days where he wasn't dressing for games? Or maybe the veterans just speaking into him, and giving him advice about his play, and life. Maybe he's just maturing as a person, and also as a player.
  2. sounds very encouraging! almost 700 pages worth of virtanen talk. lots of people were on the fence with jake. i'm glad he seems more confident with his own play. it's good that we didn't throw him to the wolves in the beginning of the year. would've been discouraged to see him lost out there. i hope he continues to bring it. it's exciting to see him grow and develop as a player. he's a keeper that virtanen!

Would love to see Gaunce staying up with the big club for the rest of the season, and also Pedan. These two most likely makes the squad next season. We need to either buy out some vets, or trade them for whatever we can get. But I also agree. We need veteran leadership as well: Sedins are going to be here, no questions. - Hamhuis I can see back - Vrbata - GONE - Hansen returns - probably a free-agent signing.
  4. If Hammer comes back, we certainly do have a logjam at LD: Hutton, Sbisa, Edler, Hammer, Pedan, Tryamkin. Someone's got to go. Can we carry two extra dman with the big club? On RD we've got: Larsen, Tanev, Biega. It's not looking very good. lol. we may be up for first overall next year (poor draft year to tank in...).
  5. that's good sign for Jake! i didn't see the game tonight. how did he do? how was he showing confidence?
  6. with this management team. anything is possible.
  7. Hutton is the type of player your describing! Sbisa may not be the fleetest of foot. But he's another type of dman we don't have. Someone who can clear the crease, someone who is agreesive and physical. Hutton won't be what Sbisa can bring to the table, and vice versa. Tanev doesn't hit that much either. But he brings an element the other two don't bring. We need all types of dman in our system and within our team. Offensive. Defensive. Physical.
  8. Well, at least in that regards he's got some wins. He needs to surround himself with some better hockey people. Scouting may be him and Weisbrod's forte, but they need someone who is a better pro scout. But we'll see what happens with Demko and Boeser. They're no slam dunks, anything can happen with their development now and whenever they make the Canucks. Let's hope they continue to move in the right direction.
  9. I'm happy for Kass. Even if he never plays for us again. He seems to have found a home in Edmonton (which isn't saying a lot for a lot of players). But with all the things he's had to endure, and overcome, particularly with his substance abuse. I'm glad that he's playing well, and better with the Oilers.
  10. any progress with signing Tryamkin?

interesting indeed. with Benning running the ship who knows where this team will go. we certainly aren't good enough. but management still want to be buyers and making the playoffs for a first round sweep! yay to mediocrity. this city deserves better. somehow management thinks the fans of this city are dumb. i wonder too. this is Benning's first go around at a GM position. wonder if these decisions down the road will be seen as a result of his inexperience.
  12. kids something special in the making.
  13. well. Jake's on pace for what. 7-8 goals this season? as a 19 year old. not too bad. I'm hoping he doubles that next season though. anything less may be deemed as disappointing for him. either that. or management sends him down to the AHL along with McCann to work on their games. being counted on as top offensive players with Utica. I wouldn't mind that scenario either.
  14. it's true. just don't think Demko will return to college hockey. what is there for him to do there? next logical step is the AHL and then the NHL.
  15. Yep. EXACTLY. Vancouver's got a pretty good reputation the last couple of years of churning out goalies. Lack, Schneids, now Markstrom, and soon Demko. That's a pretty good turn of goalies who developed and played well here.
  16. Demko signs with the Canucks once his NCAA season is done. People gotta stop thinking that these young kids are EVIL people. LOL. Most of them are pretty good kids with solid upbringings. Demko strikes me as a character kid, with integrity. He signs with the club, and earns his ice. 'nuff said.
  17. Yeah. But we're not mathematically out of it yet, are we?
  18. Hope to see less of it next season. He's learning on the fly this season. Personally. I'm gonna give him more rope. He's tentative. That's understandable. But after having a season (more or less) - I'm hoping that he doesn't make the same mistakes next year. If there's improvement in his game at this time next season, I'm a happy man. He's on pace for what. 6 goals? If he can double that to 12, I'd considered that a win and an improvement. As long as he keeps improving, that's fine with me. He has a ceiling of course, and I hope that people on these boards don't expect him to be Stamkos like. Cause he's not going to be that. And I don't think he'll be another Raffi Torres like some here think he will.
  19. This team is in deep trouble. Can they still make the playoffs, or is it now out of reach?
  20. Yeah. Really happy for Jake to have him one timed that shot. Nice goal for sure. Hoping that he keeps it up with the goals. Looks like the kid's gaining some confidence.

    Ben Hutton | #27 | D

nice to see Hutton enjoying himself with other fans in other cities. he seems to be like a responsible young man. but also knows not to take himself too seriously. we have a good group of core players coming up. should be fun to see how they develop. Horvat definitely captain material. it's easy to forget that he's only 20 years of age. he carries himself far more maturely than most 20 year olds I know.
  22. wouldn't worry too much. Jake seems like he's got a good head on his shoulders. no issues that we know about unlike unfortunately for zack. hooefully being at home isn't too much of a distraction for Jake. he knows what he needs to do.
  23. wouldn't surprise me if it happened.
