  1. When I look at Markstrom, I'm glad the Canucks took a cautious approach. Because Markstrom, prior to his amazing run to the Calder Cup in the AHL last season, was a fragile goalie (mentally, technically, etc). He's had time, and he's been shielded from the pressures of being the #1 goalie especially in this market where everything is scrutinized. He looks really good at the moment as starter. Maybe that's a small window to what he's going to be like when he takes on the reigns of full start down the road. And he's still quite young. Still 25?
  2. But...but...but....going with Lack/Markstrom would've gotten us a top 3 draft pick...haha. I joke. I'm glad that Benning went with Miller/Marky. Markstrom is demonstrating that he will be ready to take on the #1 in about 1-2 years time. He looks good now in his limited back up role.
  3. me too. i hope so as well. hoping that his confidence just continues to grow leaps and bounds.
  4. it's not like jake doesn't have any hockey IQ at all. LOL. he scored 45 goals with Calgary in the WHL, because he's got some great hands, but also some decent hockey IQ. that alone is going to help him with his NHL career. if he can continue to grow with regards to his hockey IQ (debatable among some posters here whether that can be grown or not) - he can either be a good NHLer, to a great NHLer. For now, though. I was ecstatic when he scored the game tying goal. SO happy for him. Hope he keeps it up next game, and continues to build.
  5. He may have a good game the last two games, but I think management will still continue with their "plan" for him moving forward. He's getting more experience every game he's playing, which is good for him, and his game.
  6. let's just be happy that he's been having better game the last two games. now I think it's about producing and being involved in every game he's playing in. let's see where he continues to go in the next few games. especially during this upcoming road trip.
  7. I still believe that Virtanen's going to be a top six forward. And until he's proven to me that he isn't going to be, I'm gonna hold out hope. Offensively, if he's scoring 50-60 points a year. That's gold. Worth a 6th overall pick, top six forward. That's a win in my books. Let's hope he can develop into such a player!

Not a bad strategy from the coach.

Yea. Let him simmer in Utica. Maybe he gets a few calls up next season.
  10. I'm happy for Jake tonight. Had a good game. Hope he builds on it, and continues to build his game with confidence. Good starting point tonight.
  11. Not watching the game. How's his game in the 2nd and 3rd periods?
  12. LOL. Well, gotta start somewhere
  13. Yeah. I think he just needs time. I heard him in an interview the other day on TSN1040, where he was saying when he was drafted as a 16 year old into the WHL, he struggled as well, and it took some time before he got used to the pace, and the league. He said it was the same thing with his transition into the NHL. I also believe that once he gets used to the pace, and the league, he's going to be a dangerous player. Hey, he's a Canuck. And we're Canuck fans, let's root for the kid. He will undoubtedly have some poor games coming up, so don't people have unrealistic expectation of the kid. Let him be!
  14. Virtanen. You know..... the sixth overall pick from the 2014 draft.
  15. Jake's having a good game tonight. Is he playing with Bo and Baer?
  16. Yep. Let Jake be Jake. I understand all the comparisons - Doan, Brown, Booth, Torres, etc. He's going to be his own player in his own right.
  17. okay. maybe just higher IQ in general, then...
  18. I think Jake has better potential than Booth. better hands. might even have a higher hockey IQ than Booth did.
  19. Yep. I agree with you on this. I think he develops an NHL game, but he will need some playing time at the NHL level.
  20. Yeah. I understand that. But Horvat excelled defensively. He gained the coach's trust. I think you got to handle each and every prospect differently. Virtanen has been benched, it seems, every time he makes a mistake. Not sure that offers Jake confidence moving forward. If that's the case, then maybe it's best he goes back to Junior?
  21. Archibald is a good NHL depth player. And might even be a very good AHL player.
  22. I'm inclined to think that Pulijujaarvi goes 2nd overall. Matthews - 1st, Pulijujaarvi - 2nd, and Laine - 3rd overall.
  23. SO....Laine over Pulijujarrvi? Which one would you pick, if we had a top three pick? Aside from Matthews.
  24. Hot topic this kid, Virtanen is. I think if Jake stays with the big club the rest of the year, WD needs to give him playing time. Cause he needs to learn. He needs to play. You don't draft a top 6 potential player, and then play him bottom six minutes. That's not how you develop young players properly. If he's going to be up in the NHL, then he'll need quality minutes. Make mistakes? Fine. Live with them. We ain't going anywhere this year, and if we make the playoffs, we're out in the first round - there's no way we go farther than the first round with our depleted defense. As for me. I say we keep him. He will be farther along because of his NHL experience. I believe he will come to camp and be in better shape with all of his experiences this year. I say, we'd give him a middle top 9 role come October 2016. Play him on the third line, and eventually, move him up.
