I'm not sure that Jake could be said to be a cerebral type of player that LD is described to be.
-
you can only hope right. I hope he comes over to North America and to the AHL as well. but like most Russians out there. there seems to be a sense of entitlement. generally speaking. and not saying this about every and all Russian players out there. but some of them seem to not want to go through the AHL and demand to be in the NHL immediately. even if management doesn't think it's warranted or a good idea. I hope Tryamkin has a better posture and attitude towards the game and towards Canuck management. I hope he works with the organization instead of make demands. we shall see eventually.

I think they will both have good tourneys. Jake unfortunately is always going to receive criticism. He needs time to grow. he isn't a generational taken like Eichel or McDavid is. those guys can step into their respective teams and contribute offensively almost immediately and make an impact on the franchises that drafted them. Virtanen unfortunately isn't in their ilk. but that doesn't mean he won't be a very good player in his own right. I just hope he doesn't turn out to be a Raffi Torres. he needs to be more than that. if he turns out to be another version if Torres. I think many people would certainly be disappointed considering he was picked so highly. I wonder if NYI fans are daaippinted with Dal Colle who was drafted 5th overall. he hasn't even made the NHL yet. And he was a pick above Virtanen. what about Fleury and Ritchie? Others who were drafted around the same spots (meaning top ten pick). overall. we need to be patient with our youth. rushing them won't do them any favours. being impatient with them won't do them or us any favour as fans. we just become more frustrated and disillusioned. i believe that Jake is going to be a very good player for us. if not for the stupid rules between CHL and NHL. Jake would have been down in the AHL learning to be a pro and learning his craft under Travis Green. most likely. he gets that opportunity with less pressure than a city like van to learn the game and develop the proper way. merry christmas!
-
he may never come over. lol.
-
by the way. do you have a source for the comment that Benning made about Jake not going back to the Hitmen?
-
honestly. I think it may be best for Jake to go to the AHL to start the season next year. Allow Green to work with Virtanen and develop his game even more so. the AHL is more forgiving league than the NHL is. and Jake can really take off by playing his game and learning to get better. once it's obvious that he's outgrown the AHL and he's dominating that league. Call him up to the big leagues.
-
might be good news for Jake then. pretty sure he would be happy to hear that. when he returns to the team. he needs to assert himself even more. don't be afraid of making mistakes. just go out there and play his game. learn from his mistakes and continue to grow. i think also that Benning and management may not trust the Hitmen organization to further Virtanen's development. which is why Benning and Co. are saying he goes back to the Canucks to develop.
-
yeah. it would be good for his development. I think after that though he signs with the Canucks and get either more seasoning down in the AHL. or he makes the club outright. at this point. we may see a plethora of youth on the squad as Benning continues to transition the club into the new core.

Who thinks Jake goes back to Calgary after the WJ's are done?
-
I think he goes back for another year to North Dakota.

Grenier is not a top six winger. Neither is Jensen (unless he really takes off). Dorsett same. So really, Boeser doesn't have a lot of competition for top six RW. I can see the following as his competition: - Burr - VIrtanen (most likely starting the year in the AHL...get Green to coach and develop him...) I wouldn't mind if Boeser went to the AHL with Virtanen too. Boeser is eligible, since he's coming from the NCAA, no? the CHL rules don't apply to him. Is that correct?
-
I think that would be disappointing considering where he was drafted.
-
so what your saying is that he won't live up to the expectations of a top 10 pick. in some ways. I think it was worse for Jake to be drafted in Vancouver. might fall to the enormous pressure in this city. his brutal IQ is only going to be questioned over and over and over again. maybe he will just be a glorified version of Raffi Torres without all the shaninigans. hope not. hope Jake becomes a hard hitting, 30 goal scorer in this league.

I say we draft with our first pick a franchise centre man. if we have the ability to draft Matthews. I say we do it. our forward lines would be much deeper with Matthews in the line up. and then every other pick we have. focus on the dman.

i know right. this franchise is so rich, they're just paying everyone! - Lu - Torts - Maybe even Miller. Personally. I'd take Lack over Miller. And have Markstrom backing up Lack. Miller is a good experienced goaltender. but at 6mil. that's quite the hefty price tag. I like Lack. Not only for his personality. But he's a pretty good goalie, without a doubt.

i've always heard people on these boards say things like we need good canadian kids on our team. they're tougher, and better than european players. i just don't buy that. europeans are as good, if not better sometimes, than their canadian counterparts. jake virtanen is going to be a good player. whether that means he plays a solid game in the bottom six, or he'll be an effective top six player. who knows at this point. he's a prospect like many other drafted players in his draft year. nylander for sure, i think, is ahead in terms of development. he'll be producing soon enough at the NHL level with the Leafs. and good for him, and good for Toronto. they need some good prospects in their line up producing - and this only means that we, well, hear more about toronto in the media :/ virtanen, imo, is a greater risk than nylander is. and is riskier in terms of his game translating into the NHL. but we'll see. We can only hope that jake turns into the top six player that management, and fans alike, are hoping for. if he doesn't. he'll be one of the greater busts this organization has drafted in a long time, which would be unfortunate. no rush for jake to make the team. i'd rather have him develop properly and steadily, than rush him, and put enormous amounts of pressure on the kid, and then have him fail because of the huge expectations. let's hope that he pans out. and cheer the kid on! he needs all the support he can get. and yeah, nylander is a good player. excellent if he's producing 35 points in 42 AHL games (pretty good production for an 18 yo). but they are two different types of players. let's see what jake can do in the AHL with more time on the top six, as opposed to the bottom six time he's been getting from Green.

Dunno which NHL team is going to want Miller for another year, at 6 mil.
-
if we wanted buffalo's 21st pick. we might need to give up lack and something else. either a pick going the other way. or a prospect or roster player. it won't be lack alone fetching a late first round pick. though. wouldn't that be something.
-
yep. so if that's the case. then this summer is the time to trade him because he's of value for some team out there. and if he wants. he can sign back with van when he's a UFA. win win situation. haha
-
every goalie has their deficiencies for sure. those things you listed I think are all things that be can work on to be more consistent. I love lack. and really don't want to see him go. but. if he nets us a first round pick in a deep draft. you have to consider JB goes for it. and then runs with Miller and Markstrom.
-
what kind of glaring holes are you talking about when it comes to lacks game?
-
that's a good point. I'm hoping that Miller is the one being moved. keep markstrom and lack. develop markstrom to the point where he's starter material. and his value is better than it is today.

3-1 Calgary after the 1st.
-
LOL. just my opinion as I've heard the games (on radio, don't have the chance to watch them, been busy with work). this team is resilient, but Calgary seems like they're playing the right way. i guess we'll see where this team is at by this time tomorrow night. they're either 2-2 going back home to van, or they're down 3-1, with the Flames having a stranglehold on the series.
-
I'm not so sure. I'm going to wait and see what happens next game. But the Canucks haven't "chosen" to beat the Flames to a pulp just yet. And correct me if I'm wrong, but these "bunch of plugs with star juniors and Ferland" are leading the series 2-1.
