Horvat's tearing it up! good to see his offensive game is growing Excited to see what he brings to the team NEXT season!
-
Yeah. Probably not.
-
Bo's doing well. I think he can finished the season with 20-25 points for sure. that's reachable for the kid. next season will be even more interesting. I wonder if Desjardins is willing to move him eventually this season up to third line centreman. does Desjardins have that much trust in Bo?
-
I wonder why gaunce hasn't been given a chance with the Canucks yet. seems like he's been doing solid work down in Utica. he could fill in for bottom six role for the Canucks. he can even play wing.
-
Virtanen was picked 6th. With such high selection, there should be expectation that he becomes a top six player. Whether he becomes that, is yet to be seen. But with such speed, and a great shot already (still only at what, 17/18?) - I think he's going to be a very good player in the NHL. He can learn to use his linemates better (or else we get another version of Kesler, who doesn't see to be able to use his linemates at all sometimes). I think Virtanen has shown that he's teachable, and he'll get better. We seem to have coaches who want overall two way players breaking into the first team. So, I wouldn't worry about his lack of assists, or lacking of using his linemates. Sometimes a player performs better as he's in better leagues playing with better competition and players.

we've got a paranoid board here about russian players. tryamkin will be fine. most likely will take some time before he cracks the canucks roster, though. i think he probably does need a season (maybe two) in the AHL for some more seasoning. Unless he proves he can make the jump straight from the KHL to the NHL.
-
I think as Bo gets more comfortable (kind of a in funk right now) - he'll play better. Offensively, struggling for sure. Has one goal (if I'm not mistaken). I still believe that he can eventually displace Richardson (though, he is having a career year thus far) as the third line centreman.
-
thought that virtanen could play LW just as well as he can play RW?
-
thanks for the analysis. hopefully your right in the sense where his playmaking skills are better than advertised. let's see where he's at, and then come the WJ's, hopefully he plays really well at that time.
-
wow. that is pretty good depth! henrik is not going to be on the first line forever. i think if he doesn't bounce back this year, then he's already on the decline. which means, he'll still have a spot until this current contract runs out, which gives one of our prospects an opportunity to step up. one (if not a few of them) will have to play wing.

I see Horvat being second line centre one day. Perhaps not a 1st line centre, because offensively, just not as gifted. But he's a well-rounded player. Not an offensive dynamite. McCann, we shall see where he ends up. Too early to tell at this point.

I see Virtanen going back to junior. Take the time to heal his shoulder, and then play the best hockey for the remainder of his season. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes it hard on WD next season, whether he should play in the NHL or not. He's got the physical tools, and is a gifted offensive player (goals wise). if not, no rush. back to junior it would be for him (again), and then perhaps another season of AHL seasoning. Virtanen's going to be a good player for us, though.
-
agreed. i'm in no rush to see horvat make the canucks. i'd rather have him develop properly than ruin his career and confidence by rushing him into a position where he's not going to succeed. that'd be a waste of a top 10 pick. horvat's going to play a major role for the club for years to come. let's all be patient with his development, cause it can only serve this franchise for the better moving forward. same with the other prospects. we've got enough players for this year that we don't need to rush any of our younger players. if they're not ready. they ain't ready. until they are, give them time to mature, grow, learn the professional game. horvat's a good player. but he's not an exceptional player (i.e. mckinnon). so he'll need to go the route that most other players go through. get another year of junior. then off to the WJC, and see how he performs there against the best among his age. and then next season, at least a year of AHL seasoning before even considering a spot on the big club.
-
hopefully not in the bottom six. ideally, in the top six.
-
i can see that happening as well. i think horvat would learn a bunch if he were to be on the big club. doesn't have anything to learn or prove back in junior. i agree with those who say that, if he's close, he probably does make the squad come october.
-
hopefully he doesn't become taylor pyatt 2.0. pyatt was also the hopeful powerfoward type player. unfortunately it didn't work out for him. hopefully virtanen becomes much better than pyatt.
-
If Virtanen ends up being a similar player to Perry. That would be amazing.
-
Oooh. I don't know about the comparison to Raffi Torres. Torres is good, but was probably picked too high. I'm thinking that Virtanen will probably have a higher offensive ceiling. Was Torres projected to be a top six player? Or was it more a third line guy when he was drafted? Virtanen is projected to be a top six player, no? Minimum that I'm looking in terms of offensive (goal) output from Virtanen, is 30 goals. Maximum, probably around 40 goals. Anything less than that, and I'd be disappointed.
-
I guess we'll see. Horvat seems like the more 'complete' player out of the two that you've mentioned. But they are different players. Horvat is projected to be a shutdown, two-way, top six player. Don't know about Rychel. Domi is supposed to be a more offensive top six threat. And Domi's offensive ceiling, probably higher than Horvat's, to be honest. I see Horvat being a 20 goal scorer in the league, 40-50 assist kind of guy. Domi, probably a lot more offensive.
-
that's right. i remember kesler started off as a third line guy, didn't he? and burr started off on the fourth line early in his career, before having the opportunity and chance to develop and play on a top six role.
-
EXACTLY. What's the point of having better linemates, if they aren't able to finish on the setups?
-
i understand that he may not have the best linemates in junior. hopefully that changes this coming year. he'll have better linemates.
-
let's hope so. if he develops properly, i can see him being at least a 30 goal scorer. at the very least. hoping for more in the 40 goal scorer range. but if he can use his line mates better, he'd be a beast of a player in the NHL.
-
Gotta agree with this statement. I think if Horvat demonstrates that he's close, then he'll be on the big club. If not, then back to Juniors for him. If I'm not mistaken, I think I remember Desjardins saying that if it's between a veteran and a rookie, and the rookie is close, then they go with the young player. We'll see if he holds onto his word about that.
-
I'm excited about Virtanen as well. I'm cautious too, cause don't want to be disappointed. But if Virtanen can improve on using his linemates better, this kid's going to be a very good player for the Canucks for years to come.
