I think Horvat has got to be at least on the third line centerman. And then work his way up. Richardson and/or Lain would be great fourth line centers. Those players you've mentioned (with the exception of Horvat) would be fine on the fourth line, and perhaps even interchangeable to the third line (for a short period of time, not long term). I think Horvat's development would be best served as the third line centre. He's got a good two-way game, that's perfect for the third line center position. Here's to hoping.

well. that's the question isn't it? if his hockey IQ improves - he becomes the complete player. finding linemates, and scoring as well as being physical in his play. what a beast of a player he would be. here's to hoping!
-
hopefully virtanen lives up to his potential. that would be awesome for the 'nucks.
-
can't imagine that Canucks brass is that dumb. lol. i think Benning is smarter than just picking a player because he's from BC. I think Virtanen has an interesting skill set as some here on the board have said. If he can reach his potential - Virtanen would be an excellent player. Another year in junior won't hurt him, and a couple of seasons in the AHL would do wonders for his professional game. He seems to have an NHL body already, at the age of 17, I can't imagine what that body will look like in 3-4 years of development and progression. Minimum, he's a third line player. Maximum, he's a first line, top six player for the club.

Nichushkin would have long gone under Torts. I'm glad that Horvat probably has a good chance of making the team this year, and under Willie - may be a good first pro coach for Bo. Looking forward to the season. hoping some of the young guys

You think Demko will be the next Hedberg? Possible. But with any prospect, let's hope not! Hoping for good development in the next couple of years, so that he does become the Canuck's eventual #1 goalie in the future. For an organization that has been known as being the goalie graveyard. We're not in bad shape actually. And considering we've jettisoned two of the more prolific goalies in our recent history in Luo and Schneids. Yeah, not bad. Miller. Lack. Markstrom (for now). Demko, and Ericksson. Not bad. Cannata, I don't see ever making it to the NHL. but he's good organizational goalie depth.

I think out of all those players you've listed. Horvat, Shink, Jensen, Virtanen are legit top six players. Out of the remaing on that list. I think McCann, Gaunce, Cassels and Fox are possible third line players. So, from the entire list of players, they're possible top nine players - all of them. At worst, I can see them dropping to third line duties. I really can't see any of them becoming fourth line players. If they don't make it onto the top nine, I don't see them sticking around. Fourth line duties. Players like Lain, Richardson, etc.

[Report] VAN interested in Ryan Miller
N4ZZY replied to Strombone1's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
don't think miller is worth it at this point of his career. I think that Lack can do a better job than he did last year in goal (growth, improvement, etc over the off-season). Hiller might be the better choice for back up, spelling some relief for Lack (and not play him a ridiculous and absurd 19 games in a row - what's Torts thinking and logic behind that move...). But TL and JB are supposed to make this team younger, bigger, faster, and more talented. You don't achieve that with bringing Miller on board. Skillset in decline. Older. Not worth the money in my opinion. I'd also be willing to come into the season with a Lack-Markstrom combo. I am intrigued at Markstrom and his off-season workouts, and how he's going to come in and start the year. This is his year to prove what he's worth, cause he's getting up there in age (25 this year?), not far behind Lack in terms of age, but I think a little behind Lack in terms of improvement and technical skill growth. -
[RUMOURS] Daily TSN Trade Rumours, Off Season Edition
N4ZZY replied to Warhippy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I wonder what Chicago has to offer for a player like Kesler. Saad, and/or Bickell probably to start conversations.... -
Well. That's just crap. I can't see Ehlers dropping that far. The top five in some order or another will be taken. I can't see anyone of them dropping, or the teams before us going "off the board". But I also can't see Nick Ritchie going that high at sixth. I can see Virtanen going sixth, but not Ritchie. I think he drops maybe 8-9? Nylander has either got to be seven, or eight. Ehlers depending on where Virtanen or Nylander land. This is going to be an interesting draft this Friday.

[RUMOURS] Daily TSN Trade Rumours, Off Season Edition
N4ZZY replied to Warhippy's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
that was a pretty good line up actually. until Samuelsson couldn't perform. Malhotra was injured (never the same again, according to Gillis, at least), and Raymond was inconsistent. Hansen has better hands now, but I remember back in the day when people kept on saying that he had hands of stone. LOL. -
I would be ok with trading kesler. he seems to want out. and we can get quite a bit of of prospects and picks for him. the question that I have is. is reinhart really that much better then the other five picks after him? if not. then we'd be better staying put at #6.
-
I'd be more than content to stay at number 6. If Draisaitl falls to #6, Canucks take him. If Dal Cole falls to #6, we take him. Even if Nylander is available to us at that point, we take him. Really, Reinhart is not the be all, end all. We don't have to give up the moon for Reinhart. Maybe Florida or Buffalo drafts him, and then considers a deal with another team. that's still very possible. Much like almost everone on this board that believes that Kesler is probably gone by the draft. I too believe he'll be gone by that time. Benning would be smart to get prospects, picks, and a young player in return. the demand in return for Kes SHOULD be high. The other team is getting a second line centre, Selke winning centreman. But my hope is that Benning doesn't hold out like Gillis did. Either way. The Canucks have been VERY quiet. Something must be happening behind the scenes for the franchise to be so tight lipped about things... not even a leak.
-
might be able to get a pick for booth. edler, i can see being traded. but he'd also need to waive his NTC, or was it a NMC?
-
Yeah. I actually think that's what's going to happen. Horvat is a must to make the team this up-coming season. there needs to be a few young players (Jensen too) who have to make the roster, gain NHL experience with a steep learning experience ahead of them. but if the Canucks do decide to let Kes go next season (trading him, and that would be an exciting prospect for many teams, considering he'd only have one more year after, and then UFA). That might be the way to go.
-
would love to get Drasaitl with the sixth pick.
-
Gillis has made a few mistakes as GM. But seriously, who hasn't. Also, If ownership fires Gillis, and retains Torts, they've lost me as a fan for the time being. I hate it (assuming it's true that ownership has meddled) that the owners are meddling with team affairs, that's never a good thing. Leave it to the people who actually know the ins and outs of the business. Enjoy your toy, Aquilinis, but don't get involved in professional hockey operations, when your really only a fan of the game (like the rest of us). I think, if Gillis was given free reign on how to run this franchise, without ownership meddling...he can get us back to the days where we had tremendous success.
-
i agree with the person who says that if we trade a star, we should be getting a star player back. all of these proposals for sutter, a 1st (late pick), and a prospect - please. it should be a star player (roster), a 1st pick, and a blue chip prospect for a selke winning forward, who brings intangibles to a team. Kes isn't going to come cheap. and whoever wants him, will have to pay up to get him. Personally, i'm torn about whether to trade him or not. he's been a warrior for us, but if we don't trade him, i also get the sense that he won't resign with the club once his contract is up, and he becomes a UFA.
-
yeah, that's true enough. but there's a level of expectancy for your first round picks to pan out. i really think that shink and horvat will pan out, and be nice pieces for the canucks. gaunce, is going to be a third or fourth line centreman. i don't think he's going to be a top six player, on any team. horvat may not be a first line centre, but i think he's going to be a decent second line centreman. who knows? maybe he will develop nicely into a first line centreman....if it's a crapshoot, then we don't know how these young guys will develop...
-
everyone wants talbot for tanev? LOL talbot is 29 years old. he's got (so far) 4 goals, and 7 assists, for 11 points. and we're going to trade tanev (solid dman, and he's young still), for a journeyman? yeah, that's going to put us over the hump for Lord Stanley. Pssh. I don't want Gillis to make stupid trades. Not sacrifice the future, for immediate help, especially, considering this Canucks team isn't going anywhere should we make the playoffs. Horvat, to be honest, is going to make the team next year.
-
If Gaunce makes the team, it's not going to be because he'll anchor fourth line duties. Almost seems like a waste to put him there. I think Richardson is going to anchor the fourth line. Gaunce makes the team, it'll be on the third line. Apparently, he won a lot of draws tonight against the Sharks' young players.
-
I agree that AV was/is a good coach. After settling down emotionally from the first round sweep of the Sharks (2 weeks and a little bit ago now). AV did a lot of good for this franchise. I think given more time, he could've eventually won a Stanley Cup with this organization. Note, I did not say, with these players, but with this organization. There are some good young prospects coming up the pipeline (i.e. Jensen, Kassian, Gaunce, Schroeder, Corrado, etc) - and that bodes well for the future of the club. AV is not going to have a hard time finding another job. I do believe Dallas is a prime landing spot. Can't imagine the Avs hiring AV (I think they're in for Roy). But if Dallas and Vancouver were to ever meet up in the postseason - boy that'd be an interesting series for sure. If Dallas Eakins is indeed coming to Vancouver, and that fails. Gillis will have nowhere to hide. Because the next coach is his hiring. It was his choice. This Summer isn't going to be dull, that's for sure. Let's see what happens.
-
I'd say the 'Caps are still in the radar of sports here in this town, but because the Canucks are THIS CLOSE and THIS FAR into the postseason (FINALS!) - you don't really hear much about anything else. It's Canucks all the time. Whitecaps also need to at least WIN another game, before people take notice. I don't know what Caps management were thinking when they did not sign any offensive players. You need to score in order to win. And right now, the only person that seems to be scoring a ton, is getting red-carded every other game. Ridiculous. Is the reffing that bad? Or are our players just not good enough? I think it's the latter. And our goaltending duo stinks. Cannon is an over-aging player. They guy doesn't even crack an EPL roster. Probably playing in the 12th division (if there is one) in Europe somewhere. Same with Nolly. We need better goaltending, we need more scoring, and better defense. Caps are lucky that they are "still" considered a novelty with MLS, and all. But after next year, if they don't make MAJOR improvements, they're not going to have much of a following. Being one of the TOP 25 football clubs in the world begins by being the VERY BEST in the league your in. LOOOOOOONG way to go. Maybe not even in my lifetime.
