[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

Which forward is rated that high in the dfraft (#2) behind Wright? -
[Rumour] Devils open to trading 2022 1st-round pick

Yeah. Benning’s greatest weakness was probably his lack of patience that cost this team. The guy was an idiot thinking he could shortcut his way. He’s drafted some good, solid pieces. But his pro scouting was atrocious. Amateur scouting was decent to good. But all that talk about him being a super scout, yeah, I don’t see it. Tampa Bay has seemingly “better” super scouts with the way they’ve drafted. -

Really? Not on Nemec? But the need is for a RHD, and JT gets us the best opportunity to do that, no? -
[Signing] Oilers sign Evander Kane

Yeah, I can see why some people would think that. But he’s been doing great in Edmonton so far. -

I agree that Marchand doesn’t have off-ice issues that we know of like Kane does. Kane’s off ice activity hasn’t been confirmed, though, has it? It’s been reported, but has it actually been reported as illegal? -

What do you mean? Like JT for New Jersey’s 2OA + Forward? -

Hah. That’s never going to happen. -

But JT’s also a stud I get it. I’d do that deal as well, especially if it means we get Nemec who would be the RHD pairing of Nemec-Hughes for the next decade? YES PLEASE. -

I mean, Boston has Stanley Cups and they got a bad apple in Marchand. -

I think that's the thing right? Kane's indiscretions are definitely more public. And people wouldn't want him on the team, even if it brought a championship to this city that has been waiting for what feels like an eternity. Some of us on these boards won't live to see a Cup brought here. But on the same token, we brought Messier here to this organization, and he was a piece of $&!# even before he arrived in a Canucks uniform. But the Canucks still signed him and brought him here. There have been some players that this organization have brought that have had poor character, and who have been poor role models as well. But we've moved on, and for the most part they're a footnote in this Franchise's history. Look. I'd want to give Kane a second chance. Everyone deserves the opportunity to turn things around in their life. If not, I don't think anyone even on this board could criticize. We all have been given second, multiple chances, to change and turn things around in our life (whatever our personal situations may be). Why is it different with Kane? Could we gotten into the playoffs had the Canucks signed Kane? Maybe. We don't know now. I'd be willing to sign the man to a contract, but it'd have to be short, and conditioned. If some fans are hesitant in signing Miller to a long term deal, and his character seems to be above and beyond that of Kane's, then I'm not sure how we'd react if we signed Kane to a long term contract. Show me that you've changed based off of the opportunity we're giving you, and we can chat down the road about a "longer leash". I'd be willing to give Kane a chance. But that leash, in the same breath, can't be that long with the man. He's got a lot to prove wherever he ends up. -

I agree, which is why I’m saying that JT would help them take that next step. The discussion has been, what would NJ offer for JT? Would the Canucks take the 2OA for Miller? Or would the Devils need to add? -

Professional athletes are role models for young kids aspiring to be them maybe one day. This is true. They have to understand that they are public role models for kids who look up to them. I would have loved Kane to come here in Canuck colors, but his character and his off-ice issues were a concern for me. But if the Canucks were one piece away from a Cup, and bringing Kane could be that difference maker. Would you do it? Would you bring a guy like Evander with all of his off-ice troubles to the team, so that this franchise finally wins a championship? -

HUGE gamble by Ken Holland, and it worked out for Edmonton. Kane’s been a huge playoff performer for them. -

They definitely need to take the next step in their development as a team. A player like Miller could help them. -
[Rumour] Canucks interested in Andrei Kuzmenko

That’s true for the most part. Major American cities have 3-4 major leagues (i.e. the NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL). Vancouver has ONE major team. ONE. So the focus on the Canucks is obviously high, even days after they play. It’s a great place to live and play on the condition that you’re winning games, and playoff rounds, and championships. Must be great to live in Tampa Bay right now, and be part of that franchise. -

No way the Canucks brass does that. Quinn for the 2nd OA? Nope. No thanks. I’d rather give them Miller for the 2OA straight up, even. We’d then be able to draft Nemec, who would be Quinn’s defensive partner for the next decade, and Jersey would have Miller for another year, possibly for more depending on negotiations, but at that point, it wouldn’t be the Canucks’ problem. -

Not going to happen. Would take too much. -
I think if the Rangers advance to the Finals, but lose there, I think they’ll try to go all in for next season again. JT could help them put over the hump. But the Rangers would have to part with some valuable pieces if they’re going to get JT. If they lose against Tampa Bay, I think they feel like they need to add another piece to get pass the Lightning.

[Rumour] Canucks interested in Andrei Kuzmenko
N4ZZY replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Even with Pettersson, we can’t seem to attract players wanting to come here and play. This organization isn’t quite there yet, where players will take discounts to land here in Vancouver and don the white, blue and green. We’ve really struck out in terms of collegiate free agents, and now the international ones (like Kuzmenko). I know he might not be a superstar, or even a star player, but a free asset is a free asset. -

Yeah. That sounds like he’s probably going to land in Edmonton. -

But i can understand why Kuzmenko would choose Edmonton to play with a player like McDavid. He could put up a ton of points, and then cash in. -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
N4ZZY replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Yeah. Makes sense, right? So I think it’s prudent to see what management can get for JT. Will he help another team? Absolutely. But if we can get some really valuable and core pieces for this team moving forward. It’s gotta be a game changer kind of deal. -

Would have to be offense by committee. You have enough offensive players on the team, and maybe even get a top six forward in return for JT. I mean, we have enough forwards who can score (and potentially score), but we have no RHD either on the team (to pair with Hughes), or in the pipeline. A JT trade would bring that return to us. I’d rather focus on that. It’s easier getting scoring forwards, either through free agency, or via trade, than it is getting a RHD. And we need the latter far more than the former.
