  1. No. Obviously not. Or we wouldn’t have a team at all. I get it. Injuries are part of the game too. But Brock now has a history where he has not been able to play full seasons. Let’s even say near full seasons. Like 80 games. He’s missed more than 10 games in some of those seasons, maybe even more depending on the year. Yeah, that one accident where he clipped his tailbone was a freak accident of course. But there are many where that wasn’t the case. The man is fragile. Not all of his injuries were like the one where he clipped his tailbone. Elias Pettersson plays a more vital role (centre), and he’s also “lighter” - but he’s been able to stay relatively healthy (played 80 games this past season). Call Brock unlucky, but if he’s that unlucky, then he doesn’t deserve a massive contract either. Definitely should be taking less because he can’t remain healthy - freak accidents or not. One of the reasons why Tanev wasn’t signed was his ability to remain healthy. He’s done that for the most part in Calgary - good for him and the Flames organization. But when he was here, he was constantly injured. Was that worth 4M per season? Apparently to previous regime, it wasn’t, and I don’t blame them. You want dependable players (as much as possible of course in a physical game like hockey) minus freak accidents. Aside from that one accident that you mentioned in your post, all of his other injuries weren’t freak like that one. To me, he’s unable to remain healthy. I mean, he’s still young at 25, but generally speaking, players as they age don’t become more durable, they become less (just more wear and tear on their bodies over a longer period of time).
  2. I think I agree with you in the sense that the players like Bruce, and for management to not be able to sign him would be a huge red flag for the players. At the same time though, this is a business. But pissing off your players is not good business. Why is that we cannot have competent management here? I feel like I got PTSD when it comes to the Canucks. Players not wanting to sign here (Horvat, Petey eventually, etc), coaches not wanting to be here, etc, etc. Only a feeling, though, not rooted in any facts or evidence.
  3. He’s going to want more term than that, since this would be his last contract essentially.
  4. Yeah. I don't know how anyone here could suggest trading Hughes. Young, dynamic, rising star in the league.
  5. even with his other seasons, he hasn't been able to play all 82. So okay, let's give you the fact that he played all 56 games. Was that his only season? No. Let's see how many games he's played the other seasons then. 2016-17: 62 games (75 percent) 2017-18: 69 games (84 percent) 2018-19: 71 games (86 percent) What about all the other seasons he's played here that didn't have unforeseen circumstances that isn't their fault?
  6. It's possible he pissed Bruce off. He better have a goddamn good back up plan for head coach.
  7. Hearing all the chatter on Twitter, makes me think this might not be a slam dunk as most thought it might be. What could be the hold up? He reportedly wants to be back, management has said they want him back, sooooooo? I can see some players be really frustrated with management if they screw this one up.
  8. I mean, it was pretty clear 8 years ago, we needed to rebuild the right way. We didn't. It's pretty obvious to me, painfully obvious to me, that Benning took shortcuts, and didn't have a clear plan of attack. He drafted decently, but every GM has their slew of picks every single year. He did a decent job in the area of amateur drafting. His pro scouting was terrible. Who signs bottom six players to 3-4M dollar deals? And he didn't even just sign one of them, he signed a few of them. that crippled the Canucks and their cap situation. We are still paying for some of his dumb decisions today, even after he's been fired. Do we reap the good decisions? Of course. But he's made more bad ones than he did good. Which is why we are in the situation we're in - a middling team. Neither great, or contending, nor are we bottom worst. MIddle of the damn pack.
  9. Virtanen was never a 20 goal scorer in the league. He came close at 18, but he never actually scored 20. Brock on the other hand, has scored multiple times 20 goals plus. 2017-18: 29G 2018-19: 26G 2019-20: 16G 2020-21: 23G 2021-22: 23G At the very least, the man is good for 20-23 goals. If he’s healthy and he’s on his game, he can score high 20’s for goals, maybe eclipsing the 30 goal mark. The problem is, he’s never been able to stay healthy and play an entire season.
  10. Would not be surprised if he ends up in Edmonton. But he could do better than that.
  11. Yeah. A part of me feels like we’ll be in the mix, but another team will land him. I’d be surprised if he signs with us.
  12. Yeah, I can’t see the Canucks going after PLD, and even if they do, the Jets will match.
  13. Maybe swap with Winnipeg, cause I can see them picking Geekie.
  14. Man, the way you’re describing him makes me want him even more. I hope we get him!
  15. Dude. If we can pry him and their 5th pick away for Miller, I would do that deal. Thoughts? Prov is a really good defenseman, though he’s not a RHD.
  16. Ah, but that’s the whole fun of the postseason. Sometimes a “break” isn’t useful especially when you were on a roll like the Avs were in their sweep.
  17. I think that’s a good way to put it. I hope Miller stays as well, but not at any or at all costs. If it’s a reasonable deal (5 years, 8M) then I’d take that. 5 years isn’t a super long commitment, and Miller would be 35 when his contract is done. If he wants more than that, well, he’s probably looking at a new NHL home later this summer.
  18. If both those teams lose out in the first round. Would not be surprised if they go after Miller in the off-season.
