  1. Easy one for me. No to trading Quinn. He’s easily become our best defenseman on the team, let alone in the franchise and he’s so young (22??).
  2. I agree that it is really refreshing to be able to hear from PA and JR’s presser, how forthcoming they were, and how they recognized certain things about the team (things that you’ve mentioned in your post). I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do in their first off-season, and what kind of team we will be seeing come this coming fall. I’m excited. Petey’s gotta remain healthy and have a good start. If he does, this team’s going to track well next season, especially if management can surround the core pieces with support and depth. As for Boudreau. I like Bruce. He’s got a great personality. There’s a grandpa-ish aura to him, and he’s just a lovable guy (from the media’s perspective). He’s not young that’s for sure. But I can’t really see him coaching another 5 years. I think he’s probably got 2-3 years, maybe 4 years more until he calls it quits. Let’s go with 4 years. That brings Petey to 27, and right in his prime. I’m going to assume that the Canucks are going to move into contention at that time period (I mean, if they’re not, then it’ll probably be time to trade some of the core pieces and rebuild). I’m curious if Gronberg (spelling?) would be available to come over as assistant coach under Boudreau, and groom him to be the next head coach once Bruce retires/calls it quits.
  3. almost always. I'm just worried that the Canucks can't get that, then what? Miller walks for free? one of the largest assets walks for nothing? That could cripple this franchise for a while...
  4. No rush? I guess until the trade deadline, when every single team knows that the Canucks have to trade him, or else he'll walk for free come the summer.
  5. I don’t think Guerin takes Brock either. Not unless he’s getting him for cheap. But people have been saying that Minny’s got cap issues that rival the Canucks. They may actually have it worse than us.
  6. It's essentially the Loui situation all &^@#ing over again, if that were to happen.
  7. I mean, that's pretty clear. Rutherford not hiding behind any bull$&!# that Benning was so accustomed to doing. Non-emotional decision. I guess it's easier for these guys to do that, since they haven't known the players for too long. It would have been harder for Benning to have done the same.
  8. I think if it's 2 years, then we could possibly risk losing him for absolutely nothing. I think he's got a high ceiling that, due to family issues, I think has really caused his game to regress this season. He's shown glimpses and flashes and he's still relatively young. Not old by any stretch. So I'd be willing to give him 4 years.
  9. Can't imagine if Wellwood was actually in shape what kind of player he could have become.
  10. Well, any organization is constantly building a certain type of culture. Just depends on what exactly is that culture that they're trying to build. It was like with Benning and Weisbrod. They built a culture alright, but it became pretty apparent and clear over time that whatever culture they built wasn't very healthy for the organization. And it showed from management and how they dealt with people, to the players and their joylessness. I think changes have to happen this summer. I'd be curious to see what some of the core guys could do coming back together next season under Boudreau. And I feel strongly that management will bring him back. Bringing in yet another rookie coach could prove disastrous for this team right now in their cycle. I think they need someone like Boudreau to help them bring to consistenly to the playoffs stage cycle. If he can't get it done in the postseason? Then, that's the time to find a coach that will bring them further and further. And I'm not sure if Bruce is capable of coaching beyond his 70's. It's a hard gig - especially in this market. Eventually, the Canucks will need to find someone younger. Paul Maurice, maybe at that time? Perhaps. I like Miller. I'm just not convinced as some in our fanbase that he'll be back. I can't shake the sense that he wants maximum term and dollars. And why wouldn't he ask and demand for that? I'd be surprised if he gives the Canucks a discount in terms of money and term. We'll see soon enough. I can't see the Miller situation drag out all summer. That's the one thing Miller and his agent as well as Canucks management won't want to drag into training camp. Look what that did to Petey under Benning. Let's not go that route again.
  11. I wouldn't mind bringing back Chiasson as a depth player, but certainly not as an every day player on the roster. If he is, that means we're a bad team.
  12. Brock's going to be back, me thinks, short term. I think the team goes ahead and gives him his QO of 7.5M for one year, but the works out a medium term contract that buys 1, maybe 2 years of his UFA years. So, 4 or 5 year deal at 6/6.3M? Maybe it goes up to 6.5M, with a possible some sort of modified NTC/NMC within that contract, especially if he's going to be taking some sort of paycut. If PA can work something out where he doesn't have to take that, then that would be even better. My prediction for this off-season: Brock remains, Bo signs long term (life long Canuck), and Miller's traded. Could be wrong of course, but this off-season is going to be anything but boring. Management's going to be very busy.
  13. I don't know if I fully agree that our top players lack foot speed. Could you identify which of the players you think are lacking top foot speed, other than the obvious in Brock. He's probably the slowest of the top players on the team with regards to foot speed. Our defensive is not as solid as I think it could be, therefore, there needs to be a major reworking of the defensive corps. Can management do that in one offseason? I doubt it. I think it'll take a few off-seasons before it's revamped. But there has to be some sort of progress back there, for players to take a look and be okay with things. There needs to be some sort of tangible improvements. This is a show me what you've done lately business, not just for the players, but for management as well. If they're not showing it on a management level, why would the players remain? This is a team game after all, so it's not solely on Demko. Don't get me wrong, he's been an absolute beast for the team. But Demko alone doesn't win games. Everyone on the roster has contributed in one degree or another to wins and losses. Team game.
  14. It’s a good point. I think management will sign him to a decent deal. 7.5M for that first year, and I think it could look more like 6-6.5M the rest of his contract, which to me, looks pretty good for him.
  15. That was hard to see with Brock and sharing how hard this season has been, off the ice with his dad. I can’t imagine how hard it would have been for him on the ice with everything that’s going on with his family back home. I hope he remains a Canuck. He’s a good player, just not worth 7.5M long term. He seems like a really good hearted guy. Does he deserve some criticism for his play? Sure, but all of the players do. But seeing him this morning so emotional - these guys are just as human. Sometimes we forget about that here in this market particularly.
  16. I’m in the camp of not resigning Miller due to his age, and how it could age like Ericksson’s contract. I don’t want to wait out the prime years of Petey and Hughes just to get rid of a gargantuan contract like 7.5M for 7 years. That’s OEL territory. No thank you. I feel like Miller’s not going to give the Canucks a discount. Therefore, a trade will happen, and JT will be in a new uniform next season.
  17. I’d take Schneider as well. But Theodore is probably the better player if compared to Schneider, no?
  18. Never know. Vegas I think has sacrificed their future to try to win here and now. Not looking great.
  19. That’s the thing, though. I don’t think Miller’s going to give this team a discount.
  20. I think it depends on what we get in return for Miller. If it’s just prospects and picks, then yes, downgrade for sure. But if we get near NHL ready to contribute players/prospects, then that could change things for the team next year. The defense is what needs to be addressed, and I’m curious as to what plan Allvin has with respect to that.
  21. I’d do that deal in a heartbeat if we can get Theodore in return, and take the cap dump on Pacioretty (I mean, he’s no slouch either).
  22. Yeah. I’ll be interested to see what it does to the morale of the team. How they play on Saturday will really dictate what they believe about their playoff chances. They lose that one against Calgary, and they are literally done for the year.
  23. So I guess we ain’t making the playoffs eh? To the off-season!
