  1. Makes sense. He’d be a good cheap backup after proving himself when he was up with the club.
  2. What the. I guess we could get another Hughes in our organization after all.
  3. Yes. Having players that show on to the games on time will help... I wonder why the players don't seem to show up until it's too late..
  4. I don't think it's fair to compare Florida and Vancouver. Florida has not tax on their contracts, while Vancouver does. The NHL has to do something about this for parity, though, don't they?
  5. Of course the 2nd isn’t there. Benning seems to give those away like they’re peanuts.
  6. Yeah, he's probably not top 6 material, even if he has an elite shot. But who knows. What a pleasant surprise that would be if he turned out that he can play a top six role. Would be huge.
  7. Have you not seen? Vancouver's the perfect opportunity. He's got lots of opportunities with the Canucks, who are, by the way, looking to change the look of their roster heading into the off-season. there will be spots that he can earn, but only if he earns them. He won't be gifted a spot. Work hard and earn your keep, or be sent down to Abby. Also, his skating is suspect, so unless that changes a ton, i'm not sure there will be many suitors lining up for him.
  8. Yeah, his skating is what concerns me, and is most likely going to determine whether he has an NHL career ahead of him, or not.
  9. I take elite hockey IQ over physical attributes if I had to choose. Simply because it's harder to develop hockey IQ, than it is physically.
  10. What a tragic downfall for Jake. Promising NHL career, only for it to go sideways because of his work ethic and stupid choices. It's too bad. He could've been a superstar had he worked his ass off. Sadly, he didn't and he's just a footnote in hockey history, maybe not even that.
  11. I think that's why JR has said that it won't take a full rebuild. There are core pieces here to build around, and that now is PA's responsibility to do that with his staff. Petey I think will resign here, Bo as well. Miller and Brock are the big question marks for me. Brock with how much money, and Miller with money, term, and age. The team cannot afford to sign bad contracts moving forward, or they will continue to cripple themselves. I can't imagine being a GM - this team right now is the very definition of mediocrity.
  12. I agree that worrying about his job security was probably on his mind. It's normal about job security, but at the same time, he didn't do what was good for this organization moving forward, and he's left JR and PA a lot of pieces to pick up unfortunately.
  13. I think Allvin's comments the other day was telling as well. That you could get paid a lot, but then the rest of the team won't be any good. Maybe hinting at some of the players who might be entering into free agency soon with needing new contracts (Bo and Miller particularly). How badly do they want to win here as Canucks? If they don't care, then I'm sure Allvin and JR can make a trade work - those two guys would get quite a lot in return and set us up for many more years to come.
  14. I see it this way. Very few Elite players. That's rare territory. A few more superstar players in the league, and a lot more stars in the league. right now, the Canucks don't have any elite players on their roster. How the &^@# does Tampa Bay have three. LMAO. we have a few players that could be considered stars in the league in terms of their production.
  15. Well, he shouldn’t be. Nothing impressive happened at the deadline lol
  16. Yeah. Unfortunately I agree with you here. Do you mean to say that Boudreau doesn’t seem to be impressed by the team, or that he’s not impressive as a coach? Sorry, just wanted clarification.
  17. Yes, but what if no other team was offering anything other than a 4th? Allvin could have asked for players, but if no team wanted to give up said players, than what are you supposed to do? We’re hearing that the 4th was market value. I suspect they tried to get something for Motte, but the market didn’t budge in giving what they were asking for (even for a certain type of player). The chances for making a push was low, like very low. This team has a core, and those are the kinds of players that needed to raise their game and push this team to the postseason. The Canucks weren’t going to be buyers in this market and trade deadline. Giving up more prospects and picks to make a push for the playoffs? SMH. No. Our prospect pipeline is already bare bones. We cannot afford to part ways with more prospects and picks just to make a push towards a first round exit, because let’s be honest now, this team, while I love it, simply is not good enough. We’re not. Dermott for Hamonic was a side move, okay. But two things here. Hamonic was a mess to deal with. Who knows if he was seen as trouble by the rest of the dressing room. But if he was, then trading him and getting a 3rd was a great move by Allvin. At least we got something for him, and cleared cap space for next season. Hamonic was and is also older, by 5-6 years compared to Dermott. And he’s still relatively young (24/25 yo). I say that by around this age, most players are what they are, but sometimes you have players who just are late bloomers, or needed more of an opportunity to excel. Dermott didn’t get that in Toronto, he might get the chance here to have a larger role on the team. I’m fine with it, really, if the team has packed it in. We’ve already lost 2 straight now, and the stats weren’t in our favor before they started losing, and it’s obviously not in our favour now. It’s only a matter of time before we’re mathematically eliminated. I think Vegas will probably take us out tomorrow. But your right. Looks like the boys are packing it in for the Summer. So we’ll see what kind of moves will happen.
  18. Yeah. I agree. I think that this summer will prove to this market what kind of management we have. Sure, they have a diverse staff, that’s great. But if they don’t get the job done, then I don’t care. Or if they repeat the same mistakes that Benning made, well, let’s just say I don’t think this market has the patience after Benning for anymore similar mistakes. Mistakes are fine, but this management group needs to demonstrate that they’re learning from their mistakes. Plus, they have JR as POHO. That’s something that Benning should have had, but never did.
  19. I don’t think it’s just you. At least during the Benning era, we tend to sign players for too much and too long, or acquire them. I’m not sure what Benning was thinking in acquiring OEL for that many years left and with that amount of money on his contract. The Coyotes should have eaten up more of his cap. But that’s one of the worse things about Benning. Short sighted. Tended to take shortcuts. There’s no better way to say it. He flat out sucked as GM. And he single handedly destroyed this franchise for the foreseeable future. It’ll take a few years to rectify what he did and how he damaged this team. He lived and died with Green. Looking back, he died with his coach. In some ways, I’m glad he did. Couldn’t afford to keep Benning and his constant blunders around. And not only his blunders, but he had the worse excuses too. The summer where he said he “ran out of time” - that statement was so unprofessional of him to make, I’m not even sure why he felt he needed to say that to the goddamn world. Not only did he make himself look really bad, but also this organization that he represented as its GM. I think with this current management, there’s going to be changes to the roster without a doubt, and even with the head coach. I love me some Boudreau, but I’m not sure if he’s the right coach moving forward. But I hope we don’t sign any rookie coaches either. That experimented didn’t work with Green. So I’ll be interested to see who the team brings on board. Either retain Boudreau, or bring him a qualified head coach. Allvin won’t have as many chances as Benning did with hiring the right coach for this club.
  20. If Motte was the reason for this team folds like a cheap knife, then the team has bigger, much larger, issues. Motte is not the reason for why they play the way they do. I think it’s bad habits with some of the players. Boudreau is a great coach, but we might need someone who puts more structure in place for the young players to play with. Without it, they just continue to play poorly because they have adopted bad habits into their game. Green wasn’t able to turn that around, Boudreau is more a veteran’s coach who allows his players to do whatever they want. We need someone who can put some discipline in their game, but also structure.
  21. Colin Miller I’d be interested in, but your right. He’s probably going to cost way too much to acquire. We’d need cap space. Something we don’t really have much at the moment.
  22. Back up next season is probably too soon, though, if he battles and he earns that spot in training camp, then sure why not.
  23. Ah, it’s gotten to this point hasn’t it. Season’s over for us. I’m not familiar with a lot of the names thrown out there in this thread, but all I have to say is, BPA regardless of position. If one of the high end RHD’s are available where we’re picking, then that’s even better that it would be BPA and positional need. I hope we move up 10 spots, but knowing the hockey gods, and the fact that we’ve never won the draft, I highly doubt we move up 10 spots from where we are. It would be amazing if we drafted 3rd. It’d have to be Nemec or Jiricek, no? Those are the top RHD’s in this year’s draft aren’t they?
  24. Yeah, but then I'd want picks for 2023. That's probably the deeper draft no, compared to 2022?
