  1. Agreed - Allvin said they originally planned to extend Horvat, so I think all parties thought an extension would get done eventually. PA said they made their best offer, and they didn’t take it. Unpopular take: I’m not convinced that a $6M+ offer was ‘lowballing’ him. He’s been a 50-60 pt guy at best before this season. For our 2C, I’d rather have Miller’s 35-67 assists per year v. Horvat’s 21-23. The face off % difference isn’t as valuable as providing twice the assists…and it doesn’t make sense to pay your 3C $8M.
  2. Yeah, his consistent production will take pressure of Petey through this retool / change in leadership. Miller has a ton of value, despite his defensive lapses and emotions this year. I’m okay if we trade him for futures or defensive depth, but also okay if we keep him for 4 years. If we do trade him we should look to replace him with another top 6 vet on a shorter contract. I’m not generally a fan of a 7 year deal for a 29/30 year old, but it’s worth noting Miller has absolutely crushed value expectations for his current contract, so it’s good to see him rewarded for that. It’s also unfair to hold him to the standards of a contract he hasn’t started yet.
  3. The leaves on the tall trees have already been eaten here Nikita. Move along…
  4. Yeah, I get why they would want JT, but didn’t understand why they’d want to trade Voraceks LTIR
  5. Agreed - it’s a unique opportunity for them, and alternative to building through UFA. They weren’t planning to tank this year, and could bounce back next year if they can stay healthy.
  6. If it helps them and we can leverage the LTIR relief for picks, I’m all for it
  7. Why would CBJ need to move him? couldn't they just use the LTIR relief themselves?
  8. Thanks, I had forgotten the cutoff. That timing would be more realistic for Columbus IMHO. By then they’ll have a better sense of their direction. I’m good with keeping him through the retool or trading him to directly improve our defence. Despite any frustration around his attitude, I wouldn’t give him away. I have a feeling he’ll do well under Tocchet or will waive for a trade back East. Love him or hate him, he provides consistent offence, and hates to lose.
  9. It’s an interesting idea, and despite Columbus being sellers also, there’s some urgency to explore this soon before his NTC kicks in. Peeke, Ceulemans and a 2024 2nd gets it done for me.
  10. Yep, he’s reportedly snake bitten, but his speed and effort is there. Several islander fans were upset he was being traded instead of Bailey. I wouldn’t be surprised if Lou’s first offer was for Bailey, and JR negotiated for Beau. It’s also a contract year for him next season, so it’s realistic to expect his performance will improve.
  11. Excellent. Petey and Hughes are very consistent in their effort game in and game out, even after their significant contracts kicked in. Making them leaders will help with culture, plus keep them engaged by giving them a voice as we build around them
  12. noticed MTL dropped below us …rude I also prefer the 2023 pick. As others have suggested, using it to pick up a RHD like Reinbacher or Dragicevic gives them a year of development / better chance to contribute to our core
  13. Yep, agreed. Some people eat up the clickbait headlines (eg. Canucks didn’t shop the offer), and instantly think they know better than seasoned hockey ops professionals. Dealing early avoids risk of injury or running out of time. It also improves our draft lottery odds by losing our top scorer a month earlier. This deal had the highest potential 1st round pick and the best prospect at the positions we wanted (either C or D). Why keep shopping when you found what you’re looking for? There’s no guarantee this deal would stay on the table for a month. If we HAD waited to the deadline and traded for yet another winger (eg. Lysell), the same posters would be complaining about that.
  14. Mantha was scratched. Wonder if theyre looking at Mantha + for Boeser. we don’t save a lot, but his contract expires one year earlier. Maybe worth it if we got their 1st, and Iorio?
  15. Yeah, I would think they’d send us back an expiring contract like Tatar. I made a proposal that also had us sending Lekkerimaki to replace their prospect, plus another pick coming our way.
  16. Yep I’m down with retention for a player who can replace Brock on an ELC. We still save money. Also read that we were scouting the Caps BJs game. Wonder who we’re looking at.
  17. Agree - he did look great. Would like to see him in the show, but don’t want to take minutes away from Stillman…
