Just skimmed the Islanders HFboards, and found this: Romanov is bad at hockey. I hope they don't trade for Romanovs in the future. He's 22, so hoping he can develop into a decent top 6 guy, but 30 games in, it's looking bad. He's average in the defensive zone. However, he is so bad at transporting and passing the puck, that the territorial play is usually in the D zone when he's on the ice. It's no coincidence that Dobson has been better since Aho replaced Romanov. Coincidentally, Mayfield's metrics have been worse. Mayfield is actually very good at what he does. Romanov has dragged down all of his defensive partners thus far. Hoping he's still learning the system. It took Mayfield a while too. But IMO, that trade has looked really bad so far.Of all defensemen that have played at least 500 5v5 minutes, only Fowler, Faulk, Kulikov, Provorov, Pionk have allowed more xGA. He's at 44% xGF% for the season. For a dman who doesn't provide anything offensively, that's really bad. I'm really hoping that Lou realizes his mistake and deals him as part of a bigger deal for a top 6 forward. There has to be other GMs that think he's good.

How do you think Lou values Pulock v Romanov? I’m not sure Pulock’s deal is considered a negative. I like Pulock coming back, but would prefer Raty over Pageau.

Oh, nice. It seems like the analysts keep suggesting retention, so that makes sense. Cheers -
I like this one - not really sure how Lou values Romanov v Pulock v Dobson

His contract expires in two years…if it gets us a top C prospect and a young D who can play on the right, I would consider it. Two more years at $5… maybe he’s a replacement piece on the 3rd line if we can trade other redundant wingers. Could provide some vet mentorship in the bottom 6

Good call - any proposal will likely require further moves, but if management insists on retooling this year, I like a deal like this to get it started. Resign Bo, and trade Miller for two younger assets that fill positions needs. Maybe call up Raty to replace Dries on an offensive 3rd line, and Romanov at 20 minutes/game gives BB lots of options on D.

[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks

@King Heffy mentioned our retention window is closed for this year’s contract. Agree we’d likely need to take a cap dump. I created a proposal thread, so we don’t derail this one. Back on topic - I hope we’re exploring Miller trades as much, if not more, than for Bo. -
Yep, good point. It looks like the money is close this year (NYI has $2.4M space), but taking a bad contract back makes it more realistic. Bailey and Beauvillier are the two underperforming wingers most often cited, and both signed for two more years. I prefer Beauvillier, as he’s younger. But he sounds very similar to Garland SCOUTING REPORT A speedy, skilled forward, he handles the puck well and has a lot of offensive creativity. Excels at chipping pucks past opponents and retrieving them on the other side. Owns good hands and excellent moves in tight spaces. Has added strength since entering the NHL but could use more. Is very streaky offensively, and when he is not scoring the rest of his game tends to suffer. Long Range Potential:Speedy, versatile winger.

Oh thank you- I didn’t know how that worked. Do you see a way of making a trade work around Miller and Romanov? -
To Van: Romanov + Raty To NYI: Miller (50% retained this year) + Rathbone Both teams address an immediate need with cost certainty, and gain a top prospect replacement. Romanov can play on the right side, and hits a lot - possible replacement for Schenn?

Romanov + Raty for Miller (50% retained) + Rathbone? then resign Bo? would we need to add? -

With the Islanders previous interest in Miller, is there any way to build a trade around him and Romanov, who can also play the right side? To NYI: Miller, 50% retained (current contract), Rathbone To VAN: Romanov edit: I’m not sure of Romanov’s value, so let me know if picks (or Stillmans?) should be added on either side -

Is Raty NHL ready? He just turned 20, so he just makes the cut. He’s got 10-15 lbs on Petey FWIW. The only other option is Dobson To NYI: Horvat 50% retained, extension in place + Schenn To VAN: Dobson + cap dump (Beauvillier) take it or leave it Lou -

Yesterday, someone reported the Canucks are unwilling to package their 1st, and are looking to recoup the 2nd. If both reports are true, then it’s what we all expected re. retooling on the fly, while also getting younger, and restocking the cupboards (thank goodness) sounds reasonable to me. With Petey and Hughes at 23/24, we need to surround them with ‘twenty something’ players and prospects. Anyone younger/older won’t be contributing in their prime. With trades being harder to make, I can see them trying too hard to make each deal perfect, vs, acquiring the best possible asset value. -

Good point. We should also be targeting prospects ready to contribute in 1-2 years, to align with Petey & Quinn’s prime. Columbus looked like a good trade partner for a top 6F (especially with Voracek’s LTIR) but their horrible start might keep them off the trade market. Good to see teams like NYI getting into the mix early. Hopefully we see a bidding war. -
