[Signing] Canucks sign Akito Hirose
Ted Lasso replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
So he gets an audition with the big club, then becomes an RFA. How many games do you all think he’ll get? Any chance he makes the team next year? -

Likewise. Seems like the right mix of size and skill that RT would like on the 3rd pair -

[Signing] Rangers re-sign Filip Chytil

Don’t let it happen again 90 pts vs 52 pts for the engine that drives the second line is not barely worse. It’s a lot worse. -

Marino would be getting Myers’s minutes, so you have to use the difference in their point totals…even if Myers was bumped down. You get that, right? Projecting Marino’s point totals across the 57 games he was healthy is inaccurate. He’s on pace for 15-16 this season, and his durability factors into his value. I don’t see any reasonable argument for that team being better. It is significantly worse offensively, and slightly improved defensively. -

We're not at a wash. Marino would be replacing someone else in the lineup, probably Myers (who has one more point than Marino today). Also, how do you figure that Marino's 14 pts puts him on pace for 20, with 8-9 games left? As for reducing GA, you'd need to look at GA below replacement, compared to the player he's replacing. It's not as simple as comparing +/-. Especially now that the Canucks have significantly reduced GA under Tocchet. -

I also see more upside to Juulsen, and wouldn’t be upset if he wins the top pairing with Hughes out of camp next season. Even sportsforecaster mentions his potential to be a regular NHLer, and their reports are usually pretty bang on. https://sportsforecaster.com/nhl/p/21273/Noah_Juulsen -
[rumours] Canucks NCAA & Euro FA targets
Ted Lasso replied to Ted Lasso's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
His team (Orebro) and Haman-Äktell’s team (Vaxjo) both recently advanced to the playoff semi-finals (against different teams). If they are not eliminated, playoffs end April 30th. -

Who do you like best for the Canucks? -
Hope not. I think they understand how valuable that pick is given the deep draft this year. Oliver Moore or Reinbacher would make a huge difference on our prospect pool, and likely make the team during JRPA’s tenure. If they’re really desperate for cap space, they’ll probably buy out OEL before trading that pick. As much as I’d hate to have that dead cap, they’ve alluded to using buyouts twice now. That said, I hope they do neither. I have confidence in JRPA creating cap room by trading Myers and 2-3 wingers. I could even see them adding 1-2 mid round picks for this and next year’s draft. The market (and available cap) open up considerably in the off-season.

The NEW core for the Vancouver Canucks has been revealed
Ted Lasso replied to Elias Pettersson's topic in Canucks Talk
Interesting. One interpretation: OEL gets bought out We’re not trading Miller, or our 1st Myers, Garland, Boeser, Beauvillier, Dermott (rights) are possibly all trade bait If the smoke around Gavrikov and Barbashev is real, we could be looking at this next year: Core JRPA additions UFA targets Kuzmenko - Pettersson - Barbashev - Miller - Mikheyev Hughes - Bear Gavrikov - Hronek Demko That second line flanks JT Miller with two excellent penalty killers that can score. Could that be our new matchup line? Plug in some of the more successful current roster players, and young guys: Kuzmenko - Pettersson - Beauvillier Barbashev - Miller - Mikheyev Joshua - [3C via trade] - Podkolzin DiGiuseppe - Aman - Hoglander Dries Hughes - Bear Gavrikov - Hronek Hirose - Juulsen Burroughs Demko [UFA backup] -

Interesting that he’s followed Hughes, and borrowed some of his plays. That was evident in the video highlights, as he held the line while deking out opponents left and right like Hughes. Is there any expectation that he makes the NHL next year? Or is he earmarked for ABBY?
