No evidence required. If you want a team to stick up for each other, the example is set by the team leaders. They should at least get in the opponent’s face after a cheap shot. I’m not expecting a fight every time, just a message. Comparing Bo to Henrik is disingenuous on your part. Physicality is a bigger part of the North American game, and Bo is built like a power forward, while Henrik is not I guess you’re complacent with a Captain having little pushback, and saving energy for when it benefits him most as an individual. As long as they’re a nice man, on and off the ice. I don’t agree with you. That’s an incredibly low bar for a Captain. For future reference, ‘Bye Felicia,’ is the opposite of emotional, it’s ambivalence. Only one of us has talked about ‘declaring their love for a player.’ I’m doing my best to remain respectful of your approach to being a ‘loyal fan.’ Back on topic, Bo’s deficiencies as a Captain have made it easier to part with his contributions. His absence has barely been felt, while our team toughness and effort have noticeably improved. Do you disagree? Shouldn’t a good Captain’s absence be felt or noticed? That’s true, but it’s part of the gig he accepted and wanted. Bo was particularly flat and repetitive. “ummm…obviously…it’s not acceptable” repeated ad nauseum. After a loss, I cringed thinking that was the energy he brought into the room. I get that you are tired of trying to defend an emotional post, but it hasn’t been much of a conversation. You are throwing everything but the sink into long posts to defend Bo’s honour, which just seems like unrequited love to me.

Nope, I criticized him in the GDT as well. False equivalence is you bringing up Kesler in your last post. As our Captain, Bo does need to stick up for his teammates. I guess you’re complacent with a spineless Captain. Different strokes indeed. Not conjecture… a pattern of behaviour that became predictable. Management assembles the roster, but the Captain can inspire his team to drag them into the fight. Nope. I was critical of Bo while he was here. I don’t need to invent reasons, you’re just ignoring them to preserve your emotional attachment. I wish Bo all the best. I’m also glad he’s not our captain anymore. If you want to see a good press interview, watch Hughes, Miller or Petey. They talk about specific aspects of the game.

You’re working pretty hard to defend one of many instances that Bo didn’t stand up for his teammates. Domi cross checking another player right in front of him a few games later is another example. Your mental gymnastics to defend him are silly to me ( 4 excuses, none of which stopped Bo from collaring or face washing Sergachev or Domi). He’s got size and a leadership position, but fails to use them. Kyle Burroughs is a smaller player, making near league minimum, and he readily, and consistently, challenges anyone who cheapshots a Canuck. As for his production, of course he needs to do what’s best for himself. However, such a stark increase in production in a career year, implies he’s been holding back, no? You put those two behaviours together, and you start to see that Bo’s not only a quiet leader of an unsuccessful club, but he’s also withholding effort. Sounds pretty country club to me. That’s just it…he didn’t. He didn’t stand up for teammates, didn’t use his size to lead the team in hits, and he waited until contract year to hire Oates and breakout in goal scoring. Weak sauce. None taken, I don’t pride myself in being an unwavering fan of any athlete. IMO that’s childish. My appreciation can be worn down after a lack of character and/or effort. And that was my point. You sound like someone who invested in a Horvat jersey, and feels emotionally compelled to defend him, despite any contrary evidence. Even the language you use is over-the-top. Do fans really need to ‘proclaim their love’ to players to be fans? I don’t think so. I appreciate his FO skill, steady offence, PP contributions, and off ice charity work. I’m not a fan of his quiet leadership, lack of physicality, not sticking up for teammates, contract year outburst, and repetitive media interviews (when you say your team’s effort is unacceptable over and over without different results, you’re actually proving the opposite). My post has less than nothing to do with Kesler.

Likewise. So far Tocchet seems to have the room, and has set high expectations for the team’s off-season. He also doesn’t appear to have any unfair doghouse assignments, which is nice to see. Heard he’s offered to work with Brock through the off-season…don’t think I’ve ever heard that before… I expect Petey to add strength, as he’s mentioned this a few times. If the team enters the off-season with this level of accountability, and desire to get better, I can see this success translating to the start of the season. -

Perfect analogy. The lottery fixation has become an unhealthy fantasy. -

Listening to 650, made a good point that a part of our new identity has been consistently outhitting our opponents. Don’t mind that. Tough practices, hardworking and physical team. Basically the opposite of country club,- 452 replies
