  1. He has said lots of times that he's a Canucks fan. He wants them to win. He would much rather report - and the same goes for the rest of the media pundits - about an elite contending playoff team each year than what he's been forced to report on these last many years. The reason why I agree with him is because I don't see this team as contending with the likes of Boston, Tampa, Carolina, Colorado, New York, etc. We're not even close, yet we're mortgaging our future, yet again. As I mentioned earlier, we've traded away something like three of our last four 1st rounders, yet we're 27th in point percentage. Drance is bang on.
  2. Worse in the short- and long-term because it helps us win now and next year, and that's not good for our long-term future (his premise). There's a division between fans with the direction of the team: build for the future or build for the now and short term. Those in favour of this trade are thinking short term.
  3. Well, we need more than just Hronek to fix the d, so he's a start, but if we can't get another then Hronek was wasted, which is the point. This team needs a long-term fix, and this ain't it. It's the opposite.
  4. How else are we going to continue to join together this jigsaw puzzle when we don't have anymore draft capital or cap space, or players with value to trade?
  5. You have to always keep in mind Drance's long-standing premise: we're not close to building a long-term contending franchise ala Yzerman's plan. We're continuing the cycle of mediocrity. We're now in cap trouble again and still have many holes to fill, yet we've traded away something like three of our last four 1st rounders? Our draft pool is not good enough, our team isn't good enough, yet we're making a go of it these next few years, likely only to hit the wall of reality, yet again, in a few years that this team isn't good enough and we'll be talking rebuild; yet we won't have a prospect pool at that time either. Aye yi yi.
  6. I hear ya, and I also like the trade, but I dislike the timing. I just don't see this team as being in buy mode like this by trading away two really good draft picks in the deepest draft in decades. You've mentioned a lot 'ifs' that need to happen to even continue this build, which I still think will keep us mediocre. Yzerman sold Hronek and Bertuzzi because he knows they're not there yet. Yet we traded for Hronek thinking he's going to get us there. I don't see it.
  7. It's a difference in philosophy. I think we do need draft picks. They're valuable af, and we're not ready to contend. I digress.
  8. It's continuing the mediocrity merry-go-round. Sure, it helps us now, but we don't need help right now. We need draft picks in this deep draft, a shot at Bedard, a shot at Celibrini next year, etc. This will improve our team (if he hits), but that will what, put us in midfield again and trying to squeak into the playoffs only to get bounced right away?
  9. Anyone else just realizing Pasta is only 26yo? I'm shocked. Why did I think he was quite a bit older? Mandella effect?
  10. Well, I've slept on it, and I've come to the following conclusion: I wish we didn’t trade our two best picks in the deepest draft in decades, but management disagrees with building a long-term contender and will push the rebuild down the road some more, so they're going to make a go of it with our core of Petey and Hughes (two future greatest Canucks of all time), so LFGoooooo!!! I'm in, because I have to be. Accept the things you cannot change and have the wisdom to know the difference, as they say. I just hope Hronek stays healthy and works out and we don't crash and burn right away but actually do make a go of it. The alternative is continued mediocrity, and I'm tired of that.
  11. It just feels like another shortcut. But, I agree, it is a direction they've chosen. I'm here for it because I have no other choice. I'm excited at the potential for a Hughes-Hronek pairing, as the ceiling is a top pair in the league. I worry about mediocrity continuing for the next five years. Fingers crossed.
  12. My ideal outcome would've been using those picks, punt next year, draft well again, and then a year or two after that we start to contend. For a retool, it's a good trade. For a step-back retool, not so much.
  13. Next year: Hughes-Hronek OEL-Bear Dermott-Schenn Wolanin-Myers Still not good enough, even if we can re-sign Schenn. Like the player (Hronek), dislike the timeline.
  14. He turned 25 last November. I think he's got a lot more to give over the next five years, and dmen can often sustain it well into their 30s, so this gamble might pay off large. It's another good gamble to take, like the Kravtsov move. Hronek reminds me of Weegar, so the value is there for us with what we paid. Since the timeline for Allvin & Co. is the Petey-Hughes Era, this is a good trade for us.
  15. This is a haul for an expiring Horvat who wanted too much money. I love this trade with management's timeline in mind, but my issue is that I don't like their timeline by a couple years.
