People, including pundits, do compare him to PK, the only difference being he's a dman. There's a reason why they sat together at the world's too - they're very similar players. Great example of a tiny guy getting hit in his rookie season and then never playing again :D
-
Patrick Kane also only lasted a game or two, no?
-
Yeah, he hasn't said anything about the AHL - it's either the NHL or Michegan. I'm putting my money on Hughes forcing his elite arse onto the Nucks. He's just too good.
-
Just when I think I can't get anymore excited about this guy, he goes out and tells the media, after recognising his skating was the best in the draft, that he thinks his hockey IQ is the best part of his game.
-
Like Patrick reed wearing black and red on Sundays to pay homage to Tiger. Thankfully Nike said uh uh and put a stop to it. He looked like a fool.
-
I completely agree that Hughes was their guy all along. He's the piece we've been needing forever. I, like others, am still gitty that we got him. I can't stop watching highlight videos because he is just so dynamic. P Kane on the backend but faster. He creates space and time on the ice, and with OJ and his breakout skills we will be unstoppable. And demko. I can't even.
-
He's making the team next year. He's NHL ready, as he showed at the world's. This kid runs a line. The concerns about his defensive play should be distinguished because when he's on the ice his team almost always has the puck. Boeser, Pettersson, and Hughes... we have been getting some major draft luck lately. These guys are exactly what we've been needing. As others have said, I haven't been this excited right away about a draft pick ever. Hughes could turn out to be the steal of this draft - our very own Patrick Kane ho plays D

Boeser - Bo - EP OJ - Hughes Demko Yes, please

How old they are.

PMD, baby! Finally. I can't believe he dropped to us.
-
I guess the difference between you and me is that I don't read something and automatically react with my emotions, so I don't need to censor posters on here in order to reinforce my confirmation bias.
-
This is rich. Complete projection. If only most of us posters could say the same thing about looking forward to your posts on here.
-
Page 500, indeed. So excited. I can't even.
-
What I love is the score and his drive to burry the goal still. This guy sure makes the loss of the Sedins a little easier.
-
Agreed that these are not the best signs (I'm sensing sarcasm towards many posters who fail to see that he's a work in progress and not having an awesome year like they think, right?). I wish we had more reports on his play. Is it his conditioning? He seemed final the WJC, so I don't see how he can suddenly become out of shape. I feel like there's something else going on with him.

Having another Horvat to help drive the play of our team is exactly what we need.

That's a rhetorical question that is a little off base from what I've been saying. Of course I want to see what he can do in the NHL; I'm just saying I won't be surprised if he gets to or does not get to show us next year right away. He may not be ready physically or mentally even. His skill set is there--no one is doubting that--but until we see him actually play some games in training camp and then the NHL, we won't know for sure. I'm as excited as everyone for him, but I guess I just don't have the sense of urgency as some. It's no secret that the Twins experienced some troubling years for a while, no? As someone who also eats really healthy and works out, I can attest to how difficult and long it can take to add 15-20lbs of muscle when doing it the right way, which I deem substantial size gain.
-
Probably because he hasn't played a single game in the NHL? I think you're taking my comments the wrong way. I have no doubt that EP has the skills to be an elite NHL player. I'm simply saying that he will need to gain some substantial size in order to live up to his fullest potential in the league like the Sedins did. If the Twins stayed the size they were when they entered the league, I doubt they would have been as effective for so long. I'm not saying anything new here. I think it's completely possible that he steps into the league next year and rips it up. I just think it's more likely that he struggles a little until he gains some much-needed size. I guess I just hold some reservation until he get his chance and shows what he can do. The potential is there, but he's not actually there yet.
-
Completely agree as well, however, they have both been in incredible shape for many years, and it arguably wasn't until they put on their substantial size that they started to play to their potential. I think you're right with how the league has gone. There's a very good chance EP can excel in the NHL with his slipperiness alone, but I think it might take a little while to adjust, because he's definitely getting much more space right now on the larger ice. I wish we'd hear reports of what's he doing this year to get bigger, because you'd have to think the Nucks organization has asked him to do so. Man, I can't wait until he comes to NA.
-
Although I agree, NA ice is a different game on the smaller ice, and considering how the Sedins have been disrespected their entire careers, EP will likely need to put on some substantial size to survive the much more physical game.
-
Yeah, I agree as well on this. I haven't seen anyone claiming 50+ points, though. If so, smh.
-
I know I'd sure be stoked. Being a two-way defenceman means offence and defence, though, no? He's put up quite good numbers, points wise, everywhere he's played, so once he is playing with NHL calibre players--the likes of Bo, BB, EP, etc.--I see no reason why he won't put up even bigger numbers with them as well.
-
I think tanev is a great comparison. OJ, to me, is our next tanev only with waaaaaay more offensive potential, which I think is underrated on these boards. I really think OJ could/will put up 35-40 points. What I would like to see OJ emulate from tanman is his sense of ergency when making his smooth plays. They play a similar style, but tanev just seems to make them a little quicker with a little more hustle.
