  1. Yes, for Motte is what I was thinking of too. I would not touch a trade with Garland for TL, though.
  2. Garland is so shifty and strong on the puck, it's a mystery why we haven't seen him on PP1 this year. The puck goes to die on Brock's stick when it goes to him for entering the zone.
  3. I'm unfamiliar with Marino in depth, but a lengthy highlight video shows a lot of upside:
  4. Maybe we can dump a little cap for a pick as well? Garland and Poolman for Marino and a pick.
  5. He's a Ufa, has a history of injuries, could garner a pick, save some cap, and apparently wants more than we can afford. All of these trade talks have centered around cap relief, and his contract is the most likely to be dealt. He's not your typical 4th liner, he's fantastic, but we can't afford to pay him like a 3rd liner.
  6. It's clear you missed the meaning behind my question.
  7. You do realize you have to go back to the bubble to make up 82 games, right? He's a great 4th liner and not-so-great 3rd liner.
  8. Apparently, he'll be looking for 3rd line minute pay, so around 2.5-3m, which he's simply not worth to us on the 4th line. The thing about Motte is that he's a great 4th liner at less than 2m, but every time he's been slotted up to the 3rd he hasn't performed as good. To me, a 3rd liner needs to be able to slot up onto the 2nd line in order to get paid as a 3rd liner, like Pearson, but he hasn't shown he can be that guy.
  9. Guys float all the time. Miller just has a body language that is more detectable.
  10. I don't see Motte as the catalyst for that line, personally. Highmore and Lammy are grinders, and good at it. I know I'll get flamed for saying this, but I think Motte is a good 4th liner but highly overrated in Canuckland.
  11. So you give him no space to grow as a leader and will instead hold it against him to no end?
  12. If you're sold then I'm sold. Dickinson, Chiasson, Poolman for Marino
  13. You should be able to answer my question that I've had lately: how is Marino? Seems as though he had a great season a couple of years ago but the last couple have been declining? Did he have a bump with a new team and now is back to reality? I know nothing about him aside from being a RHD, but I'd love to know what the hype is about.
  14. Sign him for whatever we can afford while still keeping together the rest of our star players, which IMO includes Brock and Garland, or get a king's ransom. This is it in a nutshell. I'm nervous.
  15. It sure is a conundrum for this management group, especially considering they're all new to the organization. Whatever move(s) they do make better be good, or we could end up fooked for years to come, and they'll never hear the end of it from fans.
  16. Well, I'm talking about Miller's impact on the team this year and how much he's grown as a leader. Lots of posters on these boards like to bring up Miller slamming his stick and the OT play that not even McDavid could have made it back to the bench in time to help prevent the goal, and they use these moments to downplay Miller's leadership. Even Boudreau has been saying multiple times how he's our "offensive star", our "catalyst in the room and our leader", yet many want to then bring up how Horvat shows up in the playoffs. Granted, Bo is a great player, and he has shown that he can show up when it matters, however, when it comes to making the playoffs and never giving up, even after the historically poor start we had this year, it wasn't Bo who was leading us forward but rather Miller. This isn't a knock on Bo per say, but more of large praise for Miller. Personally, I don't think we're far off from contending, and I don't think we should trade any of Petey, Hughes, Demko, Bo, Miller, Brock, or Garland. They all have more gears to hit. I'd like to see Dickie, Poolman, Chiasson, Hoglander (maybe), Halak, even potentially Myers and Hamonic all get traded before the former mentioned players. I get that we need to bolster our right-side D, but we could also give Juulsen more of a chance to develop under Shaw, Burroughs as well, and then bring up Rathbone for next year as well. Essentially, get rid of dead weight, fill as much as possible with our younger, faster prospects, and see what our guys can do under Boudreau for a full season. Motte can be replaced from within, as can Chiasson and Dickie. The issue might be, however, with finding takers on our dead weight, which might mean getting rid of sweeteners. Getting rid of one or two of our stars, I think, is the wrong way to go.
  17. I don't see Miller demanding an eight year contract. I could easily see him do a five or six year term at something we can afford to create a contender. I don't see this team of guys, especially after the run they're on under Boudreau, handcuffing the team with expensive and lengthy deals.
  18. You've sure been downplaying his leadership qualities and impact on the team this year. Also, how has Miller been since the OT play after getting slashed? Do you think Miller learned from Boudreau a little more after that? It sure seems like Miller has grown a lot even since that moment in the year. Ask yourself this: would we be in this situation we are right now - i.e. playing meaningful games trying to make the playoffs - without Miller's leadership this year? Do you think Bo has the ability to lead us into the fight like Miller does?
  19. Well said, and I can't agree more. I think we're seeing more and more (Colorado) that players understand that if you want to contend for the cup every year, you better be signing team-friendly deals or else you're going to handicap your team. I also think Miller might sign for a very friendly deal. He loves the team, the city, etc., and he's the leader of this team whereas going elsewhere might see him as merely another player. He's loving his role here and I could easily see this new management group selling the core players on building a contender for years to come. Sign friendly deals and then get rid of dead weight in Poolman, Dickinson, and Chiasson. Then they can tinker next year and years after to keep becoming more competitive.
  20. Brock is a goal scoring sniper who is playing great since Boudreau came along. I see getting rid of Brock as a major risk, as his skating has hindered him this year after an early season injury. Even so, he has since revamped his game quite a lot this year and is now getting greasy goals around the net. Of course, the cap hit is what matters most right now, but trading Brock has the greatest potential of biting us in the arse when he goes elsewhere and continues to produce at the pace he is right now. A good offseason of getting back to 100% could do wonders for him, and I really think locking him up could leave us with a goal scorer producing above his pay grade for many years. I think getting something for Motte is a must. I'd like to try and get rid of Poolman before Myers and Hamonic.
  21. I think Garland and Poolman for Marino would be a solid move for us. I don't know if that would make it happen, but it's much better than giving up Brock, Bo, or Miller.
