[Report] Canucks name Patrik Allvin as GM
Jester13 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
With how the team has been playing under Boudreau, being the captain, drafted by us, his character, the new management group, his family growing rogether here, etc., I think there's a good chance he'll sign until he's 30 to give it a good shot. -

I was thinking about this lately, but then I thought: "Those comments were all made when losing and under Benning. JR & Co. bring instant respect to the organization, so maybe guys won't want out when they're communicated with and treated better with a vision?" -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Jester13 replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Problem is that Miller's contract will take him to at least 36, maybe 37 or 38. And, we still have Brock, Bo, Petey, Hogz, etc. to re-up. Sure Myers comes of the books, but we need to replace him with a top RHD when he does, so its not like his cap can just be spent re-upping others. I'm definitely not the guy to go into depth on cap situations, but I'd love to see someone break it down on how we fit them in while replacing Myers, and basically creating a contender with Miller in the lineup at his cap, length, and age. Personally, I don't see it. We need picks and prospects, and Miller is the guy that fits the best profile for getting us the biggest haul. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

That was DeNiro's proposal, but I doubt Minny is looking to sell their two best young prospects and a 1st for an aging Miller who will want a large payday in 1.5 years for a lengthy time. Let's not forget they just bought out Parise and Suter and those caps are on their books for many years to come. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks
Jester13 replied to Podzilla's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
My response was towards the following proposals from DeNiro: From New York it starts with Lafreniere or Kakko, Schnieder or Kravstov, and a 1st. From Minnesota it’s Boldy, Rossi, and a 1st. I would be shocked if NY or Minny give up these guys for Miller. I just don't see these teams willing to overpay and go all in. I would love it if they did, but NY isn't giving Laf or Kakko with Schneider and a 1st - the Schneider, Chytil, 1st is much more realistic. I also feel DN doesn't know enough of Boldy and Rossi to see that Minny won't give up both plus a 1st. Both proposals are if these teams (same as his Colorado proposal) are really feeling desperate to sell their top prospects and a a 1st for a run, and I'mnot so sure they are. Plus, Miller is also going to demand a huge raise that these teams likely won't want to pay, same as us, so he could even be considered a 1.5 year rental. We can afford to lock in Miller by shedding some cap, but it's still up in the air if our team is in the right spot to lock in an almost 30yo for 6, 7, or 8 years at a high cap hit. It's likely that Allvin & Co see Miller as aging out with our young team, and other teams know this, which is why I don't see DN's proposals as realistic, unless they are okay with overpaying those high prices. I hope I'm wrong, because I'd do any of his proposals he made for Minny, NY, and Colorado. -

Tough position doesn't mean desperate. I clarified, so maybe that's worth addressing? -

I.E. We're not in a rush to trade Miller, but teams know we can't afford to re-sign Bo, Miller, Brock, and Petey in the near future. For a team to pay what DeNiro's proposing means they truly are going all in, which could very well happen, and I'd be stoked if that's the case, but I have a hard time believing that the teams will make those trades. -
[Rumour] J.T. Miller Trade/Contract Talks

I think you're missing one aspect in your proposals, in that the Canucks are also in a tough position of not being able to afford our core with Miller involved. Teams know this. This limits our trade value for him, so I tend to agree that you're overselling Miller's worth with your proposals. -

I would take that trade with Calgary and then re-sign Miller in FA, ha! I want Coronato badly and was super sad to see him go to the Lames. -
[Signing] Oilers sign Evander Kane

And now Virtanen has to be on our books after all he's done? -
[Signing] Oilers sign Evander Kane
Jester13 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
QUESTION (maybe this has been asked already, and if so, I apologize in advance): Kane was cleared of any wrong doing, yet San Jose gets out of his $22m contract, but we had to buy out Virtanen and get dinged on our cap for two years after all of his conduct? Is this correct? Edit: Can you tell I didn't read through any of this thread before posting what's being discussed only a few posts above? haha oops. -

Fans also need to be reminded that it's not that we "want" to move him, but that we likely have to. -

Yeah, it's such a silly report. Of course he isn't wanting out, but he's open to it and understands the process. But it's not like he's asking for a trade or anything. Nothing to see here. I still think he's going to the Rangers. -

One thing to keep in mind is that we have more pieces we could add that NY could easily want, such as Schenn, Motte, and Halak, so proposals don't only have to Miller alone. -

IIRC, the Kings and St. Louis won after acquiring some big names - can't remember if it was the same year, but definitely shortly after. -
Times have changed, for sure. I was quite shocked to hear that he's bigger than Halak, so maybe MD does have the size but just needs to be taught how to play bigger. He plays really small. I'm rootin' for him, but I'm not that hopeful as I once was, hearing how much he's struggled in the A so far. Maybe he'll get there, but the organization definitely shouldn't bank on it.
-
I think it's more about the small thing being Dipietro's size. It's quite clear that unless he has a growth spurt there's a slim chance he makes it to the NHL and sticks. His profile may say he's six feet, but he plays much smaller and unfortunately gives up lots of the net as a result. Size doesn't matter as much in the NHL, but it still does for goaltenders.
