The BC Real Estate Discussion Thread
Jester13 replied to Harvey Spector's topic in Off-Topic General
https://canoe.com/business/money-news/canadas-mortgage-insurer-tightens-rules-as-it-forecasts-home-price-drop-of-up-to-18 So I can't imagine the CMHCs new rule tightening is going to help sellers much. -
[Report] Canucks to part ways with Judd Bracket
Jester13 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Of course it's possible. I wasn't talking in absolutes. And neither are you with all the ifs. All you have to do is look at Brackett's draft record pre-Benning and post-Benning to see why Jim made those comments. He's letting the hockey world know that Brackett felt a sense of entitlement to have more control than any scout deserves. He's a good scout, since Benning took over. Regardless, I'm not getting into this debate again. It's done with. It's time to move on from the drama over one scout. -
[Report] Canucks to part ways with Judd Bracket

I've said this before, and I'll say it again, I think Brackett made a power move and it backfired on him big time. Now he's out of a job and is forced to sign elsewhere, which will happen - likely - but there's no way he will get full control of a department and the draft. And... the amount of expectations he now has put on himself to perform to the level that he claims to be at is incredibly high, so you can imagine when a pick doesn't work out and the stress that'll hit him and the microscope he'll be under for a new team. I quite like how Benning mentioned that Brackett has really become a good scout and learned a lot in the last five years, as it's clearly letting everyone know that it's not Brackett that's some saviour scout but rather JB's scouting philosophy that made all the difference, which is accurate and not the other way around that some want to believe. I'm glad this is all over with. -
JANKOWSKI JANKOWSKI JANKOWSKI JANKOWSKI

When I read the article mentioning pools will not open, it mentioned how lots of people were asking if they would be remaining closed. Really? You had to ask? Really?
-
I've seen them together only a couple of times, but I could definitely see the benefit in them doing them together more often, because I do agree that she's great at what she does but her messaging isn't quite suited for creating a sense of urgency during a state of emergency. That's definitely where Horgan shines.
-
Totally agree. Horgan is the same. It's quite refreshing. One thing I really like about JH is how he always says the person's name who asks the question, and after he's made all his points in his calm, assertive way he restates their concern with his answer but in an concise follow up. He's a very good speaker and leader. It's reassuring to see our leaders do so well during such a crisis. Hopefully we'll be better prepared next time.
-
Did you see Horgan's presser today? Ford gets so much credit, and rightly so, but I think Horgan has been excellent in his messaging and much better overall. Ford reads his statement, and there's nothing wrong with that, but Horgan is on the ball. He speaks with a non combative authority and is highly likeable. He is easily one of my favourite politicians in Canada, and he deserves his own pair of Fluevog shoes too.
-
UVic and UBC are the same. The big three have been working together throughout this to be on the same page and in line with the province and health authority.
-
Horgan is on right now and being assertive, as he does, and that's the message Henry needs to do more of, is all I'm saying.

I showed my wife all the vitamin D studies but crossed out the vitamin part. She bought it.

That's why I mentioned her recent phase 2 announcement. She has done great up until now with her messaging, and things have trended nicely. However, when my wife and I watched her talk about the plan we both started saying "Uh oh, I wonder how many people are going to think the plan is in place as of now and how many will think it's ok to hang out with a bunch of friends, etc." and predicted exactly what we saw all over Victoria at every park we walked passed. Her message was vague and passive, and I hope it doesn't come back to bite. I have a background of communications, so maybe I see it more than others. I dunno, I've seen Horgan quite a few times and do see him as being quite assertive, yet friendly and trusting, with his pressers, and I personally fully respect leaders who delegate to the professionals, as that's the true sign of a leader. There's nothing worse than someone who acts like they know more than they do ala Trump. At least Horgan hasn't broken his own social distancing rules like Ford has
-
It's not about having people to enforce the rules but rather her language and use of it to persuade citizens to follow the rules; it just simply is passive language. I think many people appreciate Trudeau's firm stance and assertive approach to telling people how to be safe and keep others safe rather than passive. The PM proved the other option. Of course, it's difficult to say whether his approach does, in fact, work better, but I'm not alone in thinking that after seeing how people reacted to phase 2 when it wasn't even put in place yet shows that now is the time for assertiveness.
-
For me, it was the unveiling of the plan with phase 2 and her barely visible message that the plan wasn't in place immediately and was instead going to start on a specific date. Sure enough, when my wife and I went for a walk we saw sooooo many groups aof six not socially distancing at Beacon Hill Park in Victoria, all likely thinking that phase 2 was a go. It was a mess of people, with lots of groups playing frisbee, which is essentially passing a virus disc back and forth to each other.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that I'm not as impressed with Bonnie Henry as many are. She's like the Judd Brackett of the COVID crisis. She's doing a very good job, but she's not some saviour and has faults in this crisis; one of which being highly passive with her message to BCers, and second of which being that I think she puts too much trust in the general public to do the right thing. I don't think it'll be long before we see a flare up in cases and then we're back to isolating for a couple of months. Time will tell, and I hope I'm wrong.
-
And this is it, no one is giving Benning credit for the picks - not even Benning would give himself credit. He's getting credit for putting together a great team of scouts, instilling quality guidelines of what he wants in players - speed, skill, shots, character - collaborating with his team, trusting his team (Petey over Glass), and pulling the trigger on more hits than misses. For some reason, tho, Brackett is getting all the credit for everything that has gone right and Benning is getting slammed. It just doesn't compute. Maybe it has something to do with Brackett whining to the media, or, and more likely, maybe it has something to do with... JD FRICKIN BURKE?! Seriously, how the heck is anyone still listening to this guy?

Racist? I dunno about that. Typical angry Vegan? Yuppers.

Because it could have a very negative impact on the person who transitions at a young age and then turns out they change their mind. Did you read the article?
-
Fair enough, but it does happen. Here's a comparison... We don't have the death penalty because some who got it turned out to be innocent. This was one big reason we don't have it anymore.

https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/the-danger-of-letting-children-transition-gender-too-early I haven't looked into the article deeper other than just reading it, but there seems to be some stories out there of it happening. Apparently some parents do encourage it (sometimes overly), but the people sometimes turn out to be gay. To say it doesn't happen is a very hard stance. I've met some parents who are definitely over the top with "allowing their child to decide", and I can only imagine what they're like behind closed doors. It sometimes seems like they want their child to be "different", and unfortunately at the expense of their kid. I gotta agree with @aGENT (shocker) with this one: set an age, such as 18, and wait until then. In the meantime, let the kid live how they want to live and let's all respect that. If they decide to transition one day then great, let's keep respecting them. But to prevent some harmful casualties it's prudent to have people wait. It's a God thread... You gotta have second chances
-
At the very least, a new God thread would give lots of posters some relief from so much C-19 and Trump noise. Eh? Eh?
-
I almost made that comment myself, ha!

Bure with the Twins made me literally lol

I'm all for it. If people don't like the thread then don't click on it; if people cross the line then get banned. Pretty simple stuff. Too bad.
