those kind of prices are too steep anyways, there's always someone who will find value in another person's perceived cap dump.

As the new season draws nearer, THE 13TH SEASON!, I thought it best to post the link to the CDCGML ARCHIVES page as this has been updated to reflect the current status and up to date records of the League.

Are JP Barry's tactics affecting your opinion of Petey and Quinn?
Mike Vanderhoek replied to JM_'s topic in Canucks Talk
Agreed. Detriment to the team over this crap. It WILL screw up things with either player at some point early on this season. -
Not at all. The player signed a contract knowing the current state of affairs and that vaccines were part of the process. Hamonic signed a contract and is now for whatever his reasons rumoured to be contemplating retirement or sitting out the season. If that was even suggested as a possibility back when the team and player were negotiating then the deal would be dead. Again hindsight is a beautiful thing, Benning sure would know Hamonic's values and position on things but Vancouver was the opportunity Hamonic wanted when trying to navigate himself/family through covid which is why he signed here to begin with. Why would Benning ever think suddenly Vancouver is not the option to move forward with ? Again players were aware the vaccine mandate was going to be in place when he signed. This is on the player. Not a fan of Benning thats fine but its not on him, only now to find a replacement.
-
Oh I just hate that, the two unsigned kids don't need more of the team's cap. I still hold out hope for creative and not 8m+ per deals to be signed.
-
well it is 1 NHL body less but players like Hunt and Schenn can play in the league and Hunt has very good puck skills while Schenn provides some solid physical play. Nothing wrong with getting it done by committee, may even free up ice to rotate in more youth. And there is always the opportunity that someone becomes available during Waivers or by a team looking to fir under roster or cap compliance.
-
agreed, this is not on Benning.
-
both, just trust the " process " and we will all be experts with the inside scoop by Friday
-
Not a fumble at all. We can play hindsight all we want here, speculate until the cows come home but all we know is the team granted him leave and either way we will know by Friday where our projected roster players are in terms of status for season or not right ? Its not on the GM to explain to everyone about the contracted players personal views, decisions and status in relation to covid or personal issues. I can confidently suggest based off how agents and teams have been discussing contracts and terms the past couple of seasons that the discussion around covid and all the related aspects of that would be discussed.

Elias Pettersson | Quinn Hughes - Contract Discussion Thread
Mike Vanderhoek replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Canucks Talk
well if that is the agent's mind set and the players are culpable to that to this point it is again very disappointing. You can't build a winner with all your cap going to two players and personally I would like to see another full season of Petey before going all in on him as after bursting onto the scene early on while still producing points his game was figured out by the opposition as the season(s) went on. -
Even if the vaccinated/unvaccinated status didn't come into play here this time of the year you won't be able to trade Hamonic, every team has their rosters in mind and is working their young guys into their spots. I assume all this talk is speculation, but why bother signing in the first place in Vancouver if you had concerns about being vaccinated or covid in general. Nobody could have foreseen things moving past covid by now and certainly not during the offseason when he signed. If he indeed is not returning to Vancouver over vaccinations or is requesting a trade the timing and lack of foresight is extremely unprofessional and in regards to his family a real head scratcher.

Elias Pettersson | Quinn Hughes - Contract Discussion Thread
Mike Vanderhoek replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Canucks Talk
I agree, the time missed already from the previous season to now is a concern for Pettersson being up to speed in my eyes anyways. I also do not appreciate players missing camp in part or whole as it always time and again delays getting up to game speed initially and increases risk of injury or temporary burnout early on. Understanding the business part of the game absolutely but the position both Pettersson and Hughes are in at this stage in their careers its a little frustrating and confusing that deals have not yet been reached. Both players being key figures for the organization moving forward I still feel its a leap of faith to throw $ 8 million + at either player right now so if there is any sort of holding out to see who blinks first on north of $ 8 million per that is disappointing to me, I realize these guys will be franchise types but they will earn a massive amount of fair market money over their career, players at this stage should not have such perceived leverage. -
Thank you, I keep seeing these types of arguments and while I am happy to know some people get through these illnesses with seemingly ease its just so disappointing to see the mindset expressed. I hate using the word selfish as this is something every one of us should research and make informed decisions about, but what else is it when you will argue a certain point while ignoring the valid and proven reasons that getting a vaccine is lessening the burden on our communities. I can respect concerns about vaccinating under certain medical conditions but there are so many of these entitled, self absorbed, conspiracy and discrediting arguments going on and on its very sad to see.

Just like the flu vaccine, getting vaccinated is not a single use method of keeping someone from getting infected. It is the facts involved in the lessening of symptoms, the shorter time of illness involved that dramatically off the bat keeps more people out of the hospital or using up healthcare resources and time form the get go. If you have less severe symptoms and are sick for a shorter period of time ( which is known factually already about getting the vaccine ) you are already helping people around you by lessening their potential for impact or severity. So while you suggest the vaccine for one does nothing for people around you it in fact does. Say you have a sick neighbor needing cancer treatments or say someone has a heart attack, there will be less strain on the hospitals, less wait time, more free'd up support staff and doctors and nurses to practice medicine versus being bogged down by treating covid patients. Its clear as day this is a positive that one would choose to ignore but would be wrong. In the simplest of answers you getting the vaccine does not mean you will never get sick and certainly does not mean people around you are 100% safe too, but looking at this realistically it is a major step for people and community to be proactive and make a difference. I completely understand your point, hats off to you for being there for your community during this time, not something I take for granted so thank you. At a certain point there are people who are choosing not to get vaccinated or are arguing against its use and effectiveness. You can always carry dialogue but for some if they are not even willing to look at things from all sides or get stuck on one point it does get frustrating and humor can help for sure.....thanks again. As mentioned above, dialogue is great but you'd have to stop and think for a minute how getting vaccinated no won't 100% keep you or people around you from getting infected but it WILL put less strain on the system, cause less severe symptoms and shorter sick time which again has all been made readily available as fact. Would getting vaccinated knowing you can help lessen the burden be a good enough reason ? The vaccines are safe, its decades old technology so I don't know where experimental or unsafe keeps popping up its just not the case.
-
That is not really an option. You'd have to look at it differently to be able to see that many people against vaccines and passports simply don't view this as " I am simply not getting a vaccine, or wearing my mask, or having a passport ". It ( the pandemic overall ) is in many people's eyes seen as some experiment, some infringement on one's rights and a test to see how far a Government can go before people say no. There is no engaging in meaning full dialogue for many because they are so far out into conspiracy, entitlement, and discrediting, misinformation that you can't get on the same wave length. I have spoken to people who refuse the vaccine, why ? because its an experiment, its not proven, its a virus with a next to nil mortality rate. Its a Government experiment on society..... you back it up and ask " if you expect and trust your healthcare professionals to examine, diagnose, treat you, why is this any different ? " because my body is my body and if I say no that is it no, pushing this is an infringement on my rights.......and so on..... You can't even get on the same page. What a world we would live in if we saw a virus spread like wildfire as covid did, severity not in the equation but that we looked at our fellow person and felt an obligation to do our part, to wear a mask, to get a vaccine to help minimize the effects and eventually put the severity of the virus to rest. A passport ? ok, well we had these in school years and years ago, hmm a way to ensure that the economy, our normalcy of society can come back and we can ensure we are protecting ourselves and lower our exposure risks by said passports. Somebody explain to me in what world other than Earth ( so very very disappointingly sad ) where doing the right thing and being a part of a community working towards a resolution is the bad or wrong way to go ? it is absolutely insane and frustrating to see.

has not signed elsewhere as of yet, may return to Sweden but I think there is still something there. Right hander, calm and poised with the puck and can get the puck out of the zone in limited North American ice time.

New Jersey Devils Training Camp Report: The New Jersey Devils have after a very busy offseason compiled the team's Training Camp roster for the upcoming season barring any further acquisitions prior to the 2021/22 season commencing. After a disappointing early Playoff exit at the hands of @da.moose's Washington Capitals, the Devils spent a lot of the offseason building up our depth from the minors on up. Bringing in several skilled and quality individual youngsters into the organization we feel there will be much internal competition at Camp for this upcoming season as well as setting up our overall depth for years to come. With over over a dozen players from last season needing new contracts we were busy working on new deals and assessing where we could or would need to make changes on the roster to ensure cap space and aim towards building draft capital in the process. Moving veterans Reilly Smith and Michal Kempny early on was a difficult decision but one that free'd up necessary cap as well as brought in a first and second round draft pick to the club. At forward we feel we have just as solid a top nine as any other team in the League and will be looking to solidify the bottom part of the forward group which very likely comes out of Camp. With veteran Tyler Bozak close to ensuring where he will play next season we will be able to count on the veteran for another reliable season this year. The likes of Riley Damiani, Peyton Krebs, Conor Dewar, Valtteri Puustinen could make things interesting before Opening night roster submission in October. One forward we feel has a good opportunity to secure a spot is recently signed Maxim Mamin who could find himself on the Opening Night roster. On defense, the team is thrilled to enter into the season with potentially John Carlson, Torey Krug, Vince Dunn, Jake Bean, Ryan Graves and Jan Rutta securing the backend with young dmen like Jack Ahcan, Benjamin Gleason and veterans Sami Vatanen and Jon Merrill coming into camp to push for roles on the big club. Having Semyon Varlamov back as our starter gives us great confidence moving forward, having Jeremy Swayman waiting in the wings and fighting for starts will keep our goal very competitive this season. Logan Thompson out of the Vegas system gives us a netminder who could really push for time in New Jersey should injuries pop up, he otherwise will be our top stopper in Atlantic City refining his already good to go pro game. The team feels signing young netminder Eetu Makiniemi could be a real boon for the organization and thrilled to have secured his development with our club, we feel he could prove to be the top goaltending prospect out of the Canes system which is saying a lot ( or indicting my level of knowledge - fingers crossed ). Overall the Devils feel we can remain in the conversation of " contender " this season with the moves and securing of our core players this off season, we are building some flexibility to bring in and utilize some youth to inject hopefully additional young core players in as we move along. The Devils look to continue our Playoff streak ( never missed the Playoffs since League inception ) and add more banner(s) and hardware by the end of the season! The team remains invested in upgrading where we can so all trade talk is welcome, below is the team's Training Camp roster as it stands today:
-
San Jose was mulling over this move for some time to free up flexibility with their being close to the contract limit. Outside chance he could be claimed but I see him returning to Europe for another season or two then possibly coming over.

Devils are present!

As much as the rallies and protesting is disgusting quite honestly is appalling but I would hope people keep in mind there are going to be many peole who cannot or choose not to get the vaccine for medical and otherwise purposes, we should respect the decisions of people say who have Lupus for example and cannot with certainty feel they aren't hurting themselves getting the vaccines. But to those whom are just arguing getting the vaccine, feel they are being forced or that their rights are being infringed, its a disapointing argument.
-
hindsight, the world is a major economy and you don't shut it down cold turkey. The complexities involved it was quite impressive how things shutdown to begin with. Sure we'd like it to have been done fast and across the board but thats just not how it works. I mean the border has been open the entire time while people think nobody has been traveling. I work in veterinary medicine and can tell you for fact people have been traveling, taking pets to and from other countries the whole time covid has been here. Government is also responsible for the vaccines being acquired and distributed.

You'd have to ask @lethunder

[Signing] Wild sign Jordie Benn
Mike Vanderhoek replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Reliable depth defenseman, underrated really. Should be a good signing should the team fall into injury trouble and rely on depth heading into the Post season.
