my brother fought in sicily and france. he never talked about it. a friend of his, never shut up about it. he bragged on how many germans he killed.

i worked with a german fellow who flew with the german airforce. some canadian emplotee kept bragging about how he would have done. the german chap said, bs., you would have crapped your pants like the rest of us.

My grandfather, who died before I was born, fought in WWII. The only reason he didn't fight on Juno was that he had athlete's foot. Later in the war, he somehow got injured by shrapnel after being separated from his unit, I think, because of D-Day. He found treatment in the Netherlands, and he met a guy from his old unit in the hospital, who thought he was dead and informed him so. They ended up treating his arm with heat but overdid it and burned his hand/arm up. I'm fuzzy on the details and shouod get my dad to tell me the story again. There's probably so much wrong here and even more that's only loosely accurate.

I went to the Victory Square ceremony today and wore a poppy. I lost it when it fell out of my clothing. But I choose to look at that symbolically, a message of loss.
