2-3 years old, sitting on the kitchen floor while my Mom gabbed on the wall phone, with that crazy long curly cord.

I had some trauma early on and so I don't really remember much at all.

I had a recurring dream (nightmare) over the years.  I was a young girl swinging on a swing set in a specific location from my childhood...sleeping under the swing set was a big dog.  "The fastest (meanest) dog in the world".  The dream was always riddled with anxiety as I swung higher and then prepared to jump and run.  As I did I bolted down the street and ran as fast I could.  I'd turn to see the dog awakening and starting to chase me.  In my dream he's gaining on me, more and more.  And then I wake up.

Dad and I were talking recently and I told him about it.  He revealed that it was, in fact, prompted by a real event.  He had me on his shoulders when I was little...taking me for a walk into Steveston.  He said a big german shepherd  came out of a house and up the long driveway, barking madly at us.  The owner came flying out of the house, grabbed the dog but started ragging on my Dad.  Something about stupid people walking on his boulevard and "next time I won't bother coming out to get him (his dog)".

My Dad, a hunter, told the guy that was his choice.  That sometimes he packed his shotgun out to the fields that were along that route (true story...back then it was the norm as Steveston was farming, fishing and hunting) and that his dog shouldn't be terrifying children or it might not end well.

The nightmare has not come back since he put it all into context.

I also remember my Mom picking me up, sitting me on the kitchen counter and us singing Downtown by Petula Clark as it played on the radio.

2 brief memories of when I was about 3 years old.  One playing cops and robbers with cap guns in the complex.  Another playing with Star Wars toys in the basement.
