  1. i don't blame you. old people are bad news, right from when they are born. they just don't think like young people. crazy.
  2. i guess the question might be. if you get on the transit with your mother and there is only one empty seat, do you sit in it or offer it to your mom.?
  3. if you can't understand what i'm saying, then nothing i can say will explain it. i never said that what they do is right. we all have learned reactions. we make poor decisions. we head in the wrong directions sometimes. the young offenders i worked with, came to us with so many issues...i never treated them as troubled people, but rather as i would treat anyone else. they all left a little more mature than when they arrived. years later, several boys returned for a visit. they all said, how much of a jerk they were back then. not all boys changed their lives around, but we felt good with our 50% success rate. i never read a boys file ahead of time. i wasn't there to judge them, just offer an alternative route for them to travel.
  4. if that was normal for them at that time, yes.
  5. i've just watched, when the game stands tall. i liked it because of the stories within the story. reminded me of the stories that i came to know in my coaching days.
  6. we are all guilty of being insensitive some times. even now at my old age, i've caught myself being less compassionate then life calls for. they say that if the bible was boiled down to one sentence, it would be, do unto others as you would have them do unto you. how many of us can give ourselves a gold star for achieving that?. when working with young offenders, i learned something that i felt was the greatest lesson i've ever learned. that is, however someone reacts to a given situation, is normal for them at that time in their lives. it may be completely wrong but they are reacting in the only way they know how at that time. think about that. i use to put everything into, right or wrong. that one piece of information has changed the way i look at people.
  7. you sound like your older than even me...do you remember the riot in montreal when clarence campbell suspended rocket richard? goalies before masks? and tim horton was just a rookie?

I thought how could I forget that?   WELL I was only 5 years old at the time (just looked up when it was) growing up in Moose Jaw Saskatchewan and I just remember watching hockey night in Canada with my parents and players didn't wear helmets.    So, you always knew who they were.   Guy Lafleur became my favourite player when I was young.  I was guessing when I said there were only six teams in the league but I am sure there were only that many when I started to watch hockey.  I was 7 years old when I played hockey on back door rinks in the Prairies.  I was the GOALIE because I played with my brother and his friends and they were two years older and they said I was too slow to play any other position.  It was pretty funny now I think about that story.

  8. i don't know if i did it right but i tried to add you as a friend.

You went to my page and clicked on the 'follow member' and then then on the 'follow' button in the new window that popped up? To make me visible, you have to un-click the 'let others see I follow member'. Is there a notification on your profile that you've started following me? That's usually the confirmation that you have.

You've got a ton of followers here Joe; you're pretty much The Man around this place.

  10. i'ld love to see dorsett back on a line with bo and baer...he'll allow them to get more creative. it is funny how when someone grows to dislike a player, from that point on, he can't do anything right. the dor man serves a purpose on this team. personally, i like the guy.
  11. i'ld love to see minny's granlund on the canucks...minny's is farther alomg than ours, but maybe they would push and help each other..

Do you see him as LW or C? Him as our 2LW is intriguing.

Markus has said before that he and Mikael help each other but also compete a lot. I'd be happy with a trade for MG64. I bet he'd help his little brother come out of his shell.

Mikael Granlund is more suited for the wing IMO. He still a decent 2C but he is capable of so much more. He was the best player at the WHC this year and should have won MVP of the tournament. Unfortunately I don't think the Canucks can afford to give up what Minnesota would want for a player of that caliber.

      You leave me alone, @ShakyWalton:angry:

  12. during an andy moog roast, daryl reaugh said, that moog was the michael jackson of hockey. when asked why, he said, because they both wear one glove for no apparent reason.

  13. sorry, my computer won't let me answer your last post. i love the potential we have in horvat, virtanen, boeser and even granlund. most of our forwards haven't proved anything yet, even sutter who was injured so much...the proof will come when the sedins retire..i can see them being resigned for an extra year or two if we can't replace them.

  14. hi deb, i got the results of my stress test this morning, sort of...they said i'll have to go to vancouver for an angioplasty and that will tell if i need the stent or heart surgery..he said vancouver would call me, so how long that takes is anyones guess. at least i'm in line now...

  15. it's probably out of print but a really good read is, "can't anybody here play this game". by casey stengel.

I haven't read it yet, Breslin admitted altering the quote for the book, but he's a writer so... I might pick it up if I want a laugh:

Then, in the bottom half of that inning, Marv whacked what appeared to be a triple.

“As usual, Marv had that wonderful running action,” Breslin wrote.

But Throneberry didn’t touch first; then he didn’t touch second. He hitched up his belt and listened to the crowd cheer for him.

Ernie Banks called for the ball at first base, stepped on the bag, and Throneberry was called out.

“I can still see his face,” Breslin said. “Stengel thought he was crazy.”

"The Old Professor" was a classic...loved him when he coached the Yankees.

the loveable mets...the fans loved them, even though they made so many errors...like a pop up in the infield..all the infielders surrounded the ball, only to let it hit the ground, beside they all thought someone else had it.. pretty funny book.

  16. quite possible but things do happen sometimes...
  17. i wonder if we could pick up rasmus ristalainen, a rshoot shot d-man from buffalo, how the 2 might do together...rasmus' plus/minus isn't very good.
  18. gagner signs in colunbus.

he's still really young despite the mileage.

      Brandon Pirri?

  19. i'm not comparing the two players, i just saying that i think when his career is over, we'll speak of him with the same respect that we have for sammi.....if i'm wrong, i'll jump off the bottom step of the porch..
  20. leone, pulling a pasaglia and passing instead of kicking...i've missed that element with the team....lou was a master of that... that was sure an exciting game...jj looked good again...
  21. i wasn't comparing their playing styles but how we remember what they did for our team...appreciating them.
  22. if you look at his contract...it says the first 2 years, he has a nmc....the 3rd and 4th year, he has a ntc and in the final 2 years, he has a modified ntc...last 2 years he gets paid 4 mil...they have outs from the contract if they feel they want to move him...cudo's to JB
  23. some players can be productive through their 30's....i believe his contract is structured so he gets less in his last 2 years...i could be wrong...i applaud the move...when the sedans retire, he will still be able to teach the new core how pro's play the game...
  24. i think that when olie's career is over, we'll be looking at him the same way we look at salo and ohlund now...
