They'll probably win and do it well but then blow chunks against the next mediocre team that comes through the door.

  2. uld see the canucks with the 6th pick, which could mean, we could have our choice of chychrin, juolevi or sergashov....which one is best?

  4. the only difference between what fans are calling for and the canucks game plan, is time table...fans want it yesterday, while tl and jb have to balance their moves and what's best for the players...and team...

  5. i only see, shinkaruk, gaunce and pedan making the big club next year...with vrbata, cracknell odd men out and pedan making it as a sixth d-man....possible burrows moving on...unless benning can pick up another piece that can push another core player out...

i think he'll pick up a d-man at the deadline or in the summer....and draft one or two in the draft...building this team will take at least one or two years....

burrows may not be as effective as he has been in the past, but he doesn't hurt this team..he isn't chopped liver...

    4. Odd.

      Odd.

@Wilbur Tryamkin does have an NHL body. Tryamkin could be one those players that'll easily translate to the NHL by being reliable, having a great NHL body, and possessing the quality he has. He could be our 7th defenseman next year.

However, Pedan deserves to be there than Tryamkin.

  6. the canucks have to try to make the playoffs, but it will be difficult and may not be determined until the last week of the season...

sorry i disagree  i hope benning gets a pick or two for him we can resign him july 1st if he really wants to play in van  its not like we are beating hawks kings lightning or caps in playoffs

it will all come down to what dan wants and what the team wants...i believe danny might not want to uproot his family for a few months and then come back for next year...family is most important to dan, not money...if the canucks ask him to wave, he might, ...i heard, la, dallas and washington might be interested...fans already have decided what benning has to get for him...i don't think teams will give up a first for a rental..it could happen, but, a 2nd and a body maybe....again, benning will do what's best for the player and the team...i don't think he will worry what cdc thinks....i know, i wouldn't.

      Time Lord

He isn't hated nearly as much anymore, but still faces greater criticism for every mistake he makes. People seem to think he deserves that because he was traded for a 2nd round pick who ended up being Roland McKeown, and because the coach overplays him.

    4. Time Lord

  11. six teams are 5 points behind canucks

Columbus beat Calgary tonight, the coveted #1 spot is still very much up for grabs. It's going to be interesting watching teams jockey for draft position down the stretch, and like you alluded to Joe, we're right there in the thick of the hunt!

    2. smithers joe

      smithers joe

we are 5 points out of 30th and 15th place...hard to make up ground with the parity in the league now....i want them to win but not devastated when we lose.

    3. Salmonberries

      Salmonberries

I'm like that too. I root for them to win every night, not disappointed if they lose by a goal. I do want to see the Edmontons and the Calgarys win more often though.

  12. i hope benning can make his plan work..good luck....

i think he makes some moves, but not as many as some fans are calling for....his plan is to have the young being taught on the job by  the vets and then when they are ready, replace the veterans with the young...until they are ready, he isn't  going to move out the vets...maybe vrbata, prust and hamhuis....

    3. Green Building

      Green Building

So far Benning seems to be a man of his word, so I'm not expecting an "every vet must go!" type of deadline at all, likely 1-2 pieces at the most, and those pieces will be dependent upon fair to great returns, he won't make moves just for the sake of making moves I'm sure.

I'm a fan of Hammer, and he is dealt I really hope he comes back and signs here in the summer. Win win.

    4. smithers joe

      smithers joe

i agree with you....dan would be a great tutor for the young d-men...

leadership is important to their growth...the sedins, hansen, burrows, dorsett and hamhuis...until they can be adequately replaced.

    4. Sean Monahan

      Sean Monahan

I thought niemelainen was awful pretty much start to finish. One play in particular, a 2 on 1 broke out on his d partner as a result of niemelainen's turnover and I honestly thought he wasn't skating on the backcheck, thought he was just gliding. But no, he really was just that slow. It was awful.

  14. good luck canucks in february...

  18. about the magician that catches bullets with teeth....i wonder, how many times, he had to practise that before he got it right?

  19. (speculation)...benning to trade all players over 22 for draft picks and minor leaguers...as per cdc's instructions.

i think he'll move vrbata, even though he says they are not sure if they want to....he may not be able to get the return the fans think he can...same with hammer...i wouldn't be surprised if he retired after this year.....he won't be able to make deals the fans will be happy with...but he will stick to his plans..

I find Jim's trades and acquisitions follow a pattern. And to me that's a good sign. It shows that he has intent and a long term plan.

While one always wants the best return for their initial investment, the player's efforts and the market generally dictate price. I do believe, however, that Jim will have his shrewdest and most productive offseason yet. I think there will be some trades that will be not what everyone is predicting, and might be of a magnitude larger than expected.

      You're weird too.

      Mr.DirtyDangles

That would be so awesome Joe : )

  24. higgins might be perfect for an expansion team...vegas or quebec...his leadership and knowledge of the game count help a new team transition into the league....maybe lead to coaching one day..i think, he'ld be good at that..

  25. higgins might get a like player like tanner glass....similar stats and contract length and age...fans expect too much...

      McCannon

@RRypien37 100% agree and part of it is also cap relief etc. With Etem here, Gaunce and Shinky pushing hard, Virt still pushing for a spot we have too many roster players as it is in that bottom 6 (Excluding mainstays like Dorsett/Crack/Prust/McCann/Burr) There is legitimately only one spot left when fully healthy (Hansen back) on the wings and 2-6 players pushing for it (kennins/vey) as well.

I'd be happy with an additional pick (any round). If late 6th round well take a flyer on a Euro who's been ignored or an overager from the OHL etc..Sometimes those guys can turn into gems, late bloomers. Regardless, Higgy has become redundant...even the cap space is helpful

    3. smithers joe

      smithers joe

benning will make the best deal for higgy that he can but will probably have to pick up some cap....and fan expectations should not be too high....

If it's a similar contract it beter be for a defenseman. I can still be happy with that
