  1. i don't know how good this team will be i two years but i expect an influx of younger players like lind, polkolzin, focht, hawrluk and maybe lockwood, rathbone, woo and juolevi amd hopefully someone like clarke. i for one can wait.
  2. i think it comes down to playing strong positional hockey. when i coached minor hockey, we were a good, strong team but a small team from burns lake played such strong positional hockey the would beat us regularly. they would pass the puck to a spot and there was always a man there. other teams are doing it successfully against us, is it being taught but not working or are the players just left to do their thing.? improve on that and the rest of the game should follow. just my 2 cents. i've never managed, coached or played in the nhl, so mine is only a guess and opinion. not a solid to go on.
  3. my only pet peeve is the players inability to pass and receive a pass, efficiently and safely. is that the players fault or the coaches fault. like when they brought manny in to work on face offs, i'ld like to see paul reinhart hired to teach these guys how to be more in control of the puck. anyone that saw reinhart play, will know what i mean. paul was a magician with the puck. if this is the coaches fault, than get new ones. if it is the players inability, than move them. i hate watching the give aways, game after game. who's to blame? i don't know. i'ld like to know what reinhart thinks about that?
  4. and who decides that, the owners, the fans or the real hockey minds? i know my thoughts are only guesses.
  5. what exactly do want benning to say...the owner have mettled, i've made a lot of bad deals, the coaches suck and so do the players? when your team is struggling you have to build them up. they're short on confidence right not. screw the fans. he has to do whatever he can to help them through this mess. the fans only think of their emotions, not what needs to be done to help the turn around. i'm sure they have an idea of what needs to be done but things can't easily be done right now. everyone has picked their scapegoat but don't really know if they are right or not, well maybe in their minds.let them figure it out and make the right move.
  6. guhle is on ltir, will this be anymore than moving a ltir from one team to another? i'ld listen to my scouts on this players long term effectiveness. not sure i'ld trust cdc with a decision like that.
  7. i've always enjoyed talking hockey with the old timers, who have seen the canucks from day one and from before. it is like a trip down memory lane to relive the canucks from the nhl, whl and the pchl and the old six team league. i'ld love to meet everyone on here and like jan, i'ld love to meet rob zepp. i think everyone should meet deb, people don't come any better than her. big casino
  8. what i've noticed about cdc, is that people on here are really caring people. went to two hockey games with deb, she bought the beer. the minister came over and introduced himself. he worked at the arena. i was to have catarac surgery but needed someone to stay with me for 2 nights or i couldn't get them done. so thankful that chon derry volunteered to come from rupert to terrace and stay with me. chon stops by every once in awhile when he hits smithers, as jan said, he dropped by and said hello and talked some hockey. back when i needed someone to stay with me in terrace, jan said if he lived closer, he would have gladly helped out in that. i never met cerridwen but she had relative here i knew. i met two more from here but forgot their names. i suffer from old timers memory. one was a zavaduck. i can also tell by some responses to life problems, how really caring you all are. thanks for being you.
  9. has anyone noticed that quinn is making less forays into the offensive zone as  he used to?

No Tanev.  His confidence has been shot half this year so far.  Making more giveaways, getting pushed off the puck.  He is shooting less effectively too imo.

This summer's disastrous set of decisions/indecisions by Benning has been very bad for a bunch of players, Hughes among them.  Bad for Horvat and Pettersson too of course, and Miller and Virt too.  Only been good for players who are finally getting a chance like Juolevi. Or who aren't injured for the first time in years (Boeser and Sutter.)  The Eriksson, Beagle, Roussel (and Edler, tbh) signings finally caught up with Benning.  Obviously they should have re-signed Stecher, obviously Toffoli had to be worked in somehow.  And they should have got a cheap, easy goaltender back up for Demko.  It's the cap space and the inability to make the changes we can all see are needed that is killing the team.  Key young guys like Hughes and Pettersson are not stupid, they know they are working with less, have more put on them than last year.  To go from being a legitimate contender last year (at least as indicated in the playoffs) to a very average one this year is not going to be missed by the guys living in it.  At the moment, the less you are paid, the better you are and the more responsibility you carry.  Not good. A few years from now we may see that what Hughes and Boeser are really doing right now is auditioning for their next team; this summer was a watershed for a lot of the fans, can't see it wouldn't have had some effect on the players.

he actually was more active last night.

  10. i knew gary valk's grandmother, she is dead now but she said she was disappointed that gary became a hockey player. she wanted him to become a missionary worker.
  11. i have those cards. my jagr rookie card is only worth about 10.00. autographed ones are worth like 200.00
  12. i think paul reinhart is selling insurance in vancouver.
  13. i think bertuzzi is in jail. ronning used to come to smithers every year for the celebrity golf tourneyment. i wouldn't knowing how jim robson is doing. like to know about bobby schmautz, ivan bolderev, darcy rota, tony tanti, tiger willims, rosaire paiement and lumme. i was looking through my canuck cards and one didn't fit. it was jagr and i think its a rookie card but doesn't say that. it said 1990 was his rookie yeat and gave his stats for 88/89 and 89/90. both years in czech league.
  14. i'ld like to see lind play 3rd line with hawryluk and a play driving center. with the right center, maybe gaudette could be more effective. if we could sign sutter for less we could move him to the 4th line with beag's and motte. a resigned pearson might work for a 3rd liner. he can also kill penalties. beag's and motte and sutter and pearson. pk'ers i think if edler isn't resigned, he'll retire. wants to live here. imo, we need a play driving center for 3rd line. a replacement for edler and a strong defenseman to play along side hughes. someone like tanev. podkolzin should help the top six but what team mates would help his game grow here? which players in the system can make sutter, pearson, edler and benn obsolete?
  15. somewhere, i have two letters from babe pratt. when we moved i misplaced them. thanks deb for sharing yours. unlike you, i never kept everything. things like canuck programs and things. i do have a picture of bryan trottier with a letter from him. i had asked him about his geneology as my trottier ancestors came from the same areas as his. i hold dear my memories of kurtenback, smyl and each year the canucks have been in the league. like you, big casino, i live the experience of each season and am thankful of the teams efforts. i do have jim robson's book the canuck from beginning to his retirement
  16. i like having 3 lines that in any game could be your top line. i haven't thought through the pk yet, but motte and beagle on one. this is where we'll miss sutter. maybe miller and hawryluk. we might pick up one in a trade. the following year we would need to find another 4th line center. beagle might be hard to replace because he is a primary pk, plus he is the best face off man we got. the defense is another matter.
  17. just spit balling here, but what about working a roster this way. hoglander...petey miller...boeser horvat...podkolzin motte...beagle... filling in with guys like lind, focht, hawryluk, lockwood, bailey, macewen and gaudette?
  18. sutter, pearson, edler, benn and hamonic are ufa at season's end. why would we get 2nd round picks for them? all you would trading is their rights. maybe get 3rd or 4th picks but i doubt it. i see hawryluk in our bottom 6 and maybe lind, or focht or michaelis., maybe rathbone and chatfield stick around next season as 7th and 8th defencemen. be careful your shipping out 3 centermen, who plays center and if you move on from edler. benn and hamonic, what will our defense look like?
  19. it would be nice to know what the upside on our prospects are, who they would be compared too?
  20. i'ld like him to get laughton from philly he'ld be a good 3c and we could let sutter go. right now, who can 3c better than sutter?
  21. i know he didn't play much but how did hawryluk look? so want him to take a spot on the bottom six, this year or next.

He had one brutal turnover. I think he just needs time to get comfortable.
