wow, i have a ways to go, i’m still on economics .05, interesting thread though. all i know is that several times in my life, when we struggled financially, we re-morgaged our house. in the end we paid it off for 3 times as much money as what we should have. economics .01...

when i was growing, the argument was who was better orr or harvey. it was like who is better gretzky or howe? they were different. orr and gretzky revolutionized the game while harvey and howe were complete all around players. lidstrom was probably the best at everything. how many on the list were all around great defensemen?

harvey and red kelly and paul reinhart. loved macinnis and reinhart duo. lucky for calgary who had them both in their prime.

have you every fished at idiot rock in moricetown, me neither? you should ask cerridwen, her father use to fish there a lot for salmon. it wouldn’t be sports fishing. people would come from all over to see native boys and others fishing there. the bulkley river flows through a narrow gorge at great speeds. you can’t fish there without being tied to somethings. many lives have been lost there. some american family of the wife’s , had been all around the world but was so impressed at the falls that he said that, that made the whole trip worthwhile. he had his movie camera out, filming it all.

Injuries on other reams helping our cap
smithers joe replied to Ray_Cathode's topic in General Hockey Discussion
we just need to get by this season. 21 mil comes off the books next year and 19 mil the following year. as it has been said, sending 2 players down ( louie and baert ) will make us compliant. there will be injuries and maybe a long time injury, so young guys can get some playing time. -
i do think if the canucks found away to pick up cernak. he would probably solidify our defense, hughes/cernak, juolevi/ schmidt, rathbone/myers. tryamkin maybe or rafferty, chatfield. we can’t take on more salary until enough salary is moved.

it was strange as a kid, we were so happy with what we got. every gift was special. christmas has got way to commercialized in my opinion. the value of the gift shouldn’t be more important than the value of love of the sender. i can’t afford some of the gifts that i’ve given but my love for them hasn’t got any smaller. of course, the kids are bombarded with all sorts of expensive things from store’s advertisements. sorry, i didn’t mean to rant.

i watched a movie once where a street person died and was cremated. his friends spread his ashes on the street where he normally lived. as soon as they left, a water machine with brushes, washed all the ashes away. i think there are rules as to where you can put them, i’m not sure.

growing up in a foster home, we got mostly hand made gifts (socks and wooden cars) but one year, forget how old i was, i got a black diamond first baseman’s glove. the leather strips holding it together finally rotted away. i tied it together with string. i know it is crazy but i still have that glove. i think that is all i have of my childhood days. i think for awhile i took it to bed with me. silly kid. when married we had an only child. embarrassed to saw we spoiled him. we lavished gifts on him. one xmas we decided to cut down on the amount of gifts we gave him. that christmas. he opened his 4 gifts and said, is that all there is. our fault not his. we were dumb parents. we didn’t have a manual.

still no one with a story to share?

my story, i told on here many years ago. it was about swifty. i joined the navy in september of 57. a group of us left vancouver by train for boot camp in cornwallis nova scotia. swifty was and orphan who had run away from the orphanage when he was 14 and lived on the streets ever since. when we hit winnipeg, jim got on. him, swifty and i became inseperable. jim had a sister living in montreal and she invited jim to spend christmas with them swifty and i tagged along. we got a hotel room but were invited to spend christmas day with them. i bought a carton of cigarettes and gift wrapped them and slipped it under the tree. swifty was surprised to hear his name called out. he started to cry as he unwrapped it. he said this was the first present he’ld ever got, this tough as nails kid, crying like a baby. as you can imagine, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room.

a favourite christmas story to share?

i went and saw nat in vancouver. it was his last tour before he died. he kept singing, long after his time had ended, he said at the prices they charge, he wanted us to get our monies worth. he was wonderful. we also went and saw bobby darin, wayne newton and sammy davis jr. in a way these stories make up for the stories i’ll never know from my father and mother, and grandparents. hockey is great, but it is only a sport. people are more important. even the animals that deb is so concerned about. during the silly season, why not share?

Should Gino Ojdick be in the Ring of Honour?
smithers joe replied to cuporbust's topic in Canucks Talk
if more people had seen boudrias play with great heart and soul, they would have loved him and would want to see him in the ring of honour. he was known as the super pest and even led the team in scoring. those early teams weren’t great, but him. kurtenback and quinn were. how many can go into the ring of honour? boudrias was so loved by the fans. how many fans of today ever watched boudrias play? -

i also think babe pratt, hall of famer, who was an ambassador for the team for many years, should get some mention. -

gino was also important to native boys who needed a hero to help them develop into better persons. this is small to some people but through his addictions and kicking them, he helped a lot of them. it just saying he was loved by all, and his life and hockey career was a blessing to many. probably all those parts of his life, makes the ring of honour more deserved. well done gino. -

i don’t know what is on twitter. that is right the fans push for it and good for them. i would just push for other heart and soul guys too. maybe because i remember the start. i’ld also like to see jim robson in the ring too. is the ring just fan driven thing or does the team have a pre determined plan? -

thank you deb. don’t you think andre boudrias should get a ring of honour spot. lumme? one day i’m sure luongo and edler will go on it. do you believe that gino is next? should there be an order? i’m not saying he shouldn’t there but when. i haven’t seen anyone on here start a quest to get boudrias in the ring. some of the old timers know how much he meant and how much the fans loved him. -

i don’t disagree with you, but does he deserve to go on it before others do? that is my only thought. i can’t even remember everyone that is there. maybe you could make a list of everyone there. -

i love heart and soul players, they are my favourites, we’ve had a lot of the over the years since 1970. where do we put them? i think of guys like schmautz, boudrias, rota and several others were great heart and soul players. i love them all, but not everyone remembers how important they were to our team. all i’m saying, is there an order or is it just who fans remember? when we got to our first stanley cup final. we didn’t there on skill alone but by heart and soul guys. we lost in 4 straight to mike bossy and crew, but it was heart and soul guys that got us there.
