  1. Who would have predicted the Kraken to be this bad in their inaugural season?

To think the bookies had the Kraken being above the Canucks in standings and in the playoffs…

They went young and stole one of our B level prospects in Lind (i am still sad about it) instead of some defence, goaltending etc.

They also had the option of getting Carey Price from MTL but chose not to. A lot of questionable picks but I did like the Yanni Gourde and McCann pick ups. Smart picks for great players.

I think they realized that it was slim pickings out there and didn't get offers for draft considerations like Vegas did. Instead they are like any other expansion draft before them and they are going through the pains of being the newest franchise. At least they'll have drafts and the fact they are a low tax state so FA will be attracted to there.

One huge factor to consider is that Seattle currently has $21M of cap space. I expected them to use it, but maybe they're waiting for the 2022 off season.

Their goaltending sucks.  Imagine us with their goaltending.

  2. If Covid cases increase should the season be canceled? Or delayed?

This unfair that the NHL is willing to allow games to continue with players going down.

kidding but I am thinking playoffs are long gone now..

  4. So I understand getting rid of the Loui meme emoji because he is no longer on the team, but why get rid of the paper bag “rough game” emoji?

How else can we show displeasure in someones post?

I thought it was a joke myself. Like forget it ever happened kinda thing. Anyways there needs to be a downvote of some sort. Neutral points wise. Just seems like there will be just more name calling. Slap a confused face and move on

    3. Rubik

      Rubik

@Devron same here, I interpreted it as a joke from the mods, we have some here that are quite cheeky I think.

      Rubik

@6of1_halfdozenofother this, but also you can see a few users only posting memes/funny pictures/funny one-liners for the sake of fishing for upvotes and having a high reputation score, while adding nothing to the discussion.

I just liked the previous version better, when there was a single upvote button and a single downvote and that's it. Or perhaps go back to a single upvote button and nothing else. CDC just looked cleaner and slicker that way for me anyways, I don't like these 6 or 7 different emojis for basically the same thing.

  5. Anyone else frustrated with bad BC drivers in winter? I just witnessed two near accidents in a span of 1 min….

Drivers in the Lower Mainland are pretty horrendous on a sunny, dry day let alone in a snowstorm. The lack of situational awareness that about half the drivers on the road have is inexcusable. What does one expect when an insurance company is licensing drivers.

My sons love the fact there are two Christmas days, one on the 25th of December and the other on January 7th. So the decorations come down January 8th.

Sure HoF, but certainly not from his work with the Canucks, or the NHL.

  8. Playoffs?

On a side note the Canuck are -9 out of the playoffs by 5 points, but the redwings are -19 in 8th place… Just shows how weak the eastern playoff race is compared to the west.

    1. kanucks25

      kanucks25

Definitely looks like the East is more top-heavy but the west is deeper.

    2. Coconuts

      Coconuts

West is def more competitive. Pacific is arguably more competitive than some eastern divisions, there ain't no super team in the Pacific right now whereas teams like Washington, Carolina, and Tampa get to beat up on the weaker teams in their divisions.

  9. Loser leafs top team in the league say it ain't so…

    2. Patel Bure

      Patel Bure

Leafs have been a very good team for years now but I still stand by my original diagnosis of them when they signed Tavares:  They are the 2010-2015 Penguins.  They will always be a good team, and probably will make it out of the 1st round at some point, but they'll always be a bridesmaid.  Why?  Because - they have too much cap allocated towards their top players and are a top heavy team as a result.  They won't have the necessary goaltending and defensive depth come playoff time.

    3. JM_

      JM_

they are still built to get torched in the 1st round.

  10. Is it me or has pods been underwhelming in his first season point wise?

I mean I wasn’t expecting elite lvl numbers from the get go, but 7 points in 27 games is very low imo.

How long is his leash development wise? Should he be sent down?

    Too many what ifs…

^Why the face palm he was drafted to be a point producer not a back checker that is why we have “defencemen”…

My prediction like Jimbos firing is he might cause some trouble for the Canucks down the line like the other Russians who played for this team if things don’t go their way or the team.

  12. As long as Rutherford doesn’t trade the core I think everything will be alright…

So much for Smyl for being interim GM.

    1. Quantum

I suspect everyone is on the table with Rutherford except for Petey, Demko, Hughes, and maybe Boeser.

    2. N4ZZY

       and Bo.

He'll be hard to replace if he's traded unless a top C is coming back.

  13. So one could argue now that the dust has settled that Gillis was a better GM than Benning?

I always knew it was the case.

      Drakrami

Just appreciate what both GMs have done. Gillis freaking took us to the finals and 1 game away from the cup! (Those people unfairly bashing Gillis is just ungrateful XXXs.) Oh, and also an era of contendership where we were a powerhouse in the league. Benning left us with Pettersson/Hughes/Boeser/Demko/Hoglander/Podkolzin/Miller. Gillis gets the nod from me for sure.

    3. buddhahoodlum

      buddhahoodlum

I liked Gillis. However, he had a lot of excellent parts to begin his tenure with. Benning had to make chicken salad out of chicken sh!t. That said, if Gillis' team had won the Cup in 2011 I guarantee he'd have a statue out front of Roger's Arena.

    4. Coconuts

      Coconuts

Too early to say, depends on what the players Benning drafted go on to do for this organization. His drafting will likely be his legacy.

  14. Doug Wilson GM of the Sharks since 2003 and Polie GM of the Predators since 1997 :o are currently the longest serving GMs.

And Canucks fans wanted Benning gone…

Sharks have fallen off a bit, but they've been consistently competitive since the mid 2000's

Preds are an odd case, but ownership clearly trusts him

  15. What are the odds Pods pulls a Tryamkin and jumps ship?

One thing I noticed is most Russian players like to win and jump ship once things go sour..

      Drakrami

None? Podkolzin was benched a lot in the KHL. Tryamkin is just a weird case. A guy who thinks he should be playing top 4 minutes after 1 season with the club. Nor is he some super #1, 2 or 3 Dman in the NHL. I think he is just an average player who is really tall... And some comfort secret card for Canucks fans who thinks that we are close to being a contender in the offseason and pull out the we can bring back Tryamkin card.

      Alflives

Zero.  Unless you’re a troll Leaf’s loser fan.

    4. King Heffy

      King Heffy

Tryamkin was benched in favour of AHL trash by Willie; Pods will likely be playing for an actual NHL coach by the end of this season.

@RubikI'm pretty sure you're correct. I think I've lost about maybe 3000-5000 of my old archived posts and many users from older times have had similar things. I'm quite certain Vintage lost large amounts of posts at one point as well. Seems like we haven't had any "purges" of older content in a good number of years though, so it mostly only affected older users. I'd guess the last one was in 2015 or something like that, but I'm not certain.

  19. Is it me or does it seem like there are a lot more high caliber players for the Kraken to pick this expansion draft? How does it compare with the Vegas expansion draft?

    1. NewbieCanuckFan

      NewbieCanuckFan

Compare the players available to what the Vancouver Grizzlies had to choose from.  That and a lower cap than all the other teams save the Raptors (plus not being able to "win" the lottery for like the first five years).

      Dazzle

Steve Moore didn't deserve to get paralyzed, but Bertuzzi didn't deserve to get burned for that. That elbow by Steve Moore was no doubt intentional. Cheap shot artist that got paid for the aftermath, which wasn't entirely Bertuzzi's fault. Everyone piled on top of each other - and Moore paid the price. So did Bertuzzi. No one came out of that a winner.

      Hoglander: 5'9" 185 lbs.

Jake is outhitting him 14-5, yet I swear Hoglander is more physical and more willing to go to the dirty areas.

Maybe the eyeball test is an illusion?
