The reclaiming territory bit is actually a significant part here. Imagine if the USA got broken up into some smaller countries (which included separating the founding states from the main) and a larger rump. That rump still is called the USA, and they wanted the original states back.

Ukraine is the heartland of where Russia came from, Kiev is the heartland city and the rus is where they see themselves coming from. They see Ukraine as part of Russia not a separate entity.

In their mind historically most of what is Ukraine today was either part of russian or part of the polish-Lithuanian commonwealth.  What they neglect is that Kiev was part of the commonwealth and the drift of the people in Ukraine to their own identity happened long before the soviet era. The period of the Cossacks alone shows that.

Now I dont support Russia’s view or advocate for them but Putin is looking for war as a distraction either by having one or forcing concessions from the west to make him look tough and strong to keep up his image and try and distract from internal dissent . But the reason for Ukraine is the same as for Crimea in that it’s an area that plays well for Russian nationalists.

    Good points…

But I believe Russia is only interested in taking Eastern Ukraine..

I do not agree with this statement because the latest news is that russia has positioned thousands of soldiers in Belarus close to the Ukraine border. This is nothing more than a strategic move from Putin to capture Kiew.

What about relocating all the native Russians from the Donbas and Donetsk region to russia? Would be the best thing for all involved parties.

Your last statement is ludicrous… we all know from history how well forcibly moving people from their traditional lands/territory works there is nothing but bloodshed and violence…

Also these two regions have already defacto declared independence from Ukraine so it is only a matter of time till they are absorbed by Russia or become proxy states.

Take a look at the newly arrived russian units in Belarus, distance between the Belarus/Ukraine border and Kiev isn't that far, could be reached by russian troops easily.

Russia and Belarus are union countries they have military agreements to protect each other…

This mostly an attempt to scare Ukraine into giving up so Russia can absorb the two Russian speaking Far East territories…

Russia invading Kiev is nothing but fear mongering and suicidal.

Russia has no right to invade a sovereign nation, bypass the democratic process and claim what it wants, whether they’re ethnically Russian or not. That’s a horrendous take.

And staged referendums are not the same as a genuine desire for independence. It’s far more complicated than that.

Yes but these people are ethically Russian and have already declared independence from Ukraine. The whole region is called “New Russia.”

They have no connection to Ukraine other than residing in a former Ukrainian territory.

I believe if the will of the people exists they should cede and join Russia..

If Russians do invade Ukraine, they will be in Kiev in matter of days.

West or NATO is not going to stop it or intervene, especially Canada with its tiny army.

The only thing that might happen is delivery of Javelins and Stingers to help Ukrainians out.

    This all misinformation…

They only want the Russian speaking Eastern half of Ukraine like Donbas and Donetsk..

They would never be able to reach Kiev.

I personally support the right of Russia to take those regions as they are ethically Russian speaking and in a overwhelming majority of joining Russia.

They have already declared independence from Ukraine and wish to cede with Russia.

I think at this point. The team needs to find another organization that would take him. This is such a gong show.

Him and Ferland have been very disappointing and have been eating up payroll for too long..

    I blame the Lames...

Am I glad we don’t pay land taxes here, although that said it might help suppress  our market slightly. It’s difficult over here but in Van I have no idea how you afford and then continue to afford the housing

Yes but thankfully we don't have that pesky TV License... :P

    Halak for Kassian.

EDM is desperate for real goaltending. We need to grit up our team.

I get its risky to our playoff chances, but I don't think its EDM we'll be chasing for that last wildcard and Zack really fits the bill in terms of what we need more of in the top 9.

We also shed that 10 game 1.25 mil bonus Halak is due.

Its also pretty much cap neutral for us (Zacks salary is covered by Halak, and the player Zack replaces in the top 9)

We'd need to graduate Mikey D to fill in until we could maybe find a cheaper veteran off waivers or a smaller trade.

Halak agrees, since he may not get his bonus money here.

Halak doesn't solve their goaltending problem though. They don't need another backup.

If EDM is going to trade for a goalie, they'd be looking for someone capable of being a starter and with more gas in the tank.

Halak would just be their next Mike Smith.

This and I am pretty sure Zack is worth more than Halak… at least a 2nd or 3rd rounder..

And I agree in order to have realistic proposals you have to take in consideration the other teams needs and wants..

Otherwise it is like if A homer was making trades on NHL 22.

  8. My take is it will take another 5-10 years to be competitive.. similar to what we experienced in the early 2000s to 2011….

We need to trade minimal and develop through the draft the correct way by not trading anymore 1st rounders and drafting well if we suck.

Trade JT IF we can’t resign him and sign more decent FAs…/get rid of the trash and bad contracts.

Funny in 2020 the family and I went near his house because there is a beautiful beach behind his property and I swear I saw him smoking a cigar playing mini golf in the back yard…

The neighbourhood in which the house is built on is crap with broken down houses nearby..

  10. IMO these counter measures are a little too late…the environment is already showing signs of decay and damage.

We should have never used plastic in the first place or the very least stop like decades ago…

I always laugh at the illusion of living in the western world; nice clean suburbs and streets and when In reality it is not really like that.

    Just my two cents…

  11. My second favourite team is the Kraken because of their close proximity to Vancouver and the fact for their logo, team colors, and roster.

Actually what the heck I like everything Kraken.. :towel:

  12. Yeah I don’t think this will be happening…

Essentially 8 years to go with BC crumbling from Covid, Summer record heat, Floods etc..

There is no appetite to invest in such a project with too many problems at home.

I think the first Olympics were fine and good enough to show the world what Vancouver has to offer, but second time around would be tiresome and meaningless.

and the fact the IOC are greedy and corrupt a-holes who only care about money…
