  1. Actually you would be surprised. I have seen many FOTB students with white girls at university. I think they like accent I don't know lol, but most of the FOTB students I have met are mega rich.. I guess there's nothing more enticing for a starving college student then being with someone with money..
  2. Well three's always next year But in all seriousness this would have been the Canucks had we decided to go all in for the playoffs. Ill take the 6th overall pick any day of the week. Take that Roy baby..

  6. Does anyone else enjoy the Glassjaw, Kodos, and VI constant bickering? I certainly do. Seems like an interesting book though..
  7. That brain dead feeling after writing an exam.. ugh

  8. I know it certainly raised mine earlier on lol, but I understand where some people are coming from even though I don't necessarily agree with everything they say. IMO its not really big issue right now as you dont see much coverage of this on news or in parliamentary debate. I think it will be in the future when we might need to discuss immigration reform like the USA for example.
  9. Good points man.. I was the same struggled throughout elementary school because I had trouble with the language aspect and I can remember others being in the same boat. Now we have no issues and our parents have learned the language as well. Even my Grandpa he can barely speak any english goes to the bank alone and withdrawals money all the time or goes to the doctors alone. He's been doing this for 20 years.. and I don't even live in surrey or the lower mainland for that matter.
  10. I agree and disagree, its mostly generalizing imo. We have become to accustom to assuming new immigrants as people who aren't capable of learning a new language or in fact can't communicate in basic English or French. Thats usually not the case. I know many people who can only speak basic english and still attend their children's PT interviews or take them to the hospital etc.. Just because you experience a immigrant worker not being able to effectively take your order at McDonalds for example doesn't mean all are like that...
  11. Examples please? Many in these neighbourhoods over time become successful in business etc.. What are some examples of the collateral harm? Their children become bilingual and teach their parents some new things as they get older. I understand your point of view, but its very difficult to relate when its someone looking from the outside in. Fortunately I the have opportunity to enter both sides.. I'll says this I usually respect your opinions here because they're insightful and different, but for this particular issue I respectively disagree. You may had the opportunity to listen to opinions of some South asian people, but I have lived and interacted with such people whom we are debating my whole life. The argument that its harmful to them is clearly not there. Potentially harmful to the Canadian population as whole sure.. We have no right to intrude in the way they choice to live. Its not like they are amish people who are fully segregated from the population.. Many overtime do in fact learn english enough to communicate at least, like my parents for example.. Came here knowing not a lick of english and now have raised two children going to University and own several properties around the island. This just one example of many..
  12. Yes but how do you suggest they get their feet in the ground? My take with these neighbourhoods is that morally they should be a place for someone to start their new life in Canada until they are properly settled (Financially,etc..) then they should move out and integrate with the rest of the population. Most people in the South Asian community look out for one another. If you're alluding to criminal activity then sure they are vulnerable.. But I have yet to hear of a story of people being swindled in these communities. Especially with rise of educated bilingual people who are sons or daughters of these immigrants.. I think for one to truly understand whats goes on in such communities or neighbourhoods is to mingle more with the people that lives there. Not just depend on opinions from some members of the south asian communities. Im no expert myself as I live on the Island, but I have a large amount family who live close or in these neighbourhoods, as with any South Asian.
  13. I have no issues with a common language in Canada, but the bolded statement is bit off. What do you mean taken advantage of? There are many lawyers, doctors, etc.. that are bilingual and live nearby or in these segregated ethnic communities. I never heard a such case where someone who couldn't speak English or French being taking advantage of in these communities. If you were alluding to criminal activity then sure these people are vulnerable. IMO a person who can't communicate in English or French takes a considerable risk when they come here. Often times the risk is better than the current situation they live in. They know what there getting themselves into.. Also for those that say we have programs that can help people learn a new language etc... Its really not that simple. First learning a new language is very difficult. These immigrants often have to work long hours before properly settling in Canada. Theres no time for them to learn especially if they are older.. It's like when they try to teach us French or Spanish in High School the result isn't pretty at the end..
  14. Agree especially the last bit. Unfortunately we don't have a proper system in place that accredits people who are doctors or engineers in their home country to practice here in Canada. Well from experience I know most immigrants that can't speak English or French are usually they elderly ones. Most recent immigrants nowadays have a good grasp on English or French as the standards have changed from 20 years ago. Before any dropout in their home country could come here. Now you need money and most of these people who are immigrants and have money are fluent in English or French. Refugees are another story though.. The thing about the ones that can't speak or communicate properly in English or French know already their options are limited hence why they work in fast food areas or segregated ethnic communities. I know someone who was a doctor in India but can't practice in Canada because the government doesn't accept where he gained his degree from as they deem his education outdated. He could apply to receive further training to approve his skills but he also needs to work to pay his bills.. The good news is that their children usually become bilingual and the issues slowly dissolve as the family becomes integrated within society.
  15. I agree with this one.. Some foreign stores you have no idea what they are even selling because of lack of transparency.. As for advertising that is a complete different issue as you could most likely tell its a crest ad,etc..
  16. I plus +1 in spirit, as I have used all mine up.. Basically what I was trying to say. You don't see people in other countries like India, China,etc.. get angry when they are constantly bombard by ads in English... Also for those that argue there isn't much English language influence in India or China you would be surprised. I know India in general has English as one of its official languages. Also the bolded part is on the money..
  17. quick question.. if someone who is Metis are they still regarded as first nations?
