Hard to say if he would've been a top pairing Dman, from what I remembered, Bourdon was decent, but quite raw still on the backend. As a PP quarterback, different story. The kid can shoot the puck and probably would've been PP1 with Salo had he been alive longer
-
Could be a possibilty, albeit a slight one. I find it hard to believe that theres only 1 Dman slated to go in the top 10, so Soderstrom or Broberg might slide in the top 10 and some of the higher tier guys fall back. Id see a greater chance though that Podkolzin or Krebs falls before Turcotte does though IMO
-
I actually like York a lot more than Soderstrom and Broberg. The German kid Seider is a bit of a project but I think theres upside, could be a good one in the right system
-
Im a big fan of Alex Turcotte, but I don't think hes going to get to us. But at 10, Ill definetely take Caufield over Boldy, Soderstrom or Newhook. The kid can flat out score. To put it in perspective, a point a game in US NDT, is a borderline top 10 pick. A goal a game? Thats just flat out special. I watched a bit of videos, the kid can really fire the puck, and from what Ive seen, he actually uses his size to his advantage. He gets a lot of leverage quick on his shot, and leaves the the puck off his stick quick simply because he's a smaller guy. Its like taking 2 rubber bands, one big and one small..you stretch them the same length, the smaller one will recoil faster. I don't buy that Caufield's success is directly from playing with Hughes. From the stats Ive seen, im sure some of you guys have too, the kids been almost at a goal a game pace his entire career since he was in bantam! I know some guys are weary of drafting a kid that small, but Caufield has a lot of talent, and I think he'll be a solid pick. Keep in mind too, one of Bennings attributes that he LOVES and looks for a in a player, with the exception of hughes, Benning and management really value players that can wire the puck, and Caufield probably would have one of the top releases in the draft. I don't think a team has every complained that they have too many goal scorers

I agree, I hope they don't give up on Goldy just yet, theres a lot of talent there, and we can't just be giving away young players for nothing just because they had a so so season. IMO I think as a fanbase, our expectations have been sky high now on our prospects that just because they dominated the AHL, we expect them to be major contributors already, but thats not the case. Not everybody develops the same way. I believe we've just been absolutely spoiled with all these guys coming up that spend little to no time at Utica after being drafted, Virtanen, McCann, Horvat, Petterson, Hughes, Boeser, that we are expecting the same jump with guys like Goldobin, Lind, Gadjovich, we forget that it takes time for these guys to succeed. The team has gone a LONG LONG ways from 10 years ago when the prospect pool was so shallow, every bit of Matt Beattie, or guys like Alex Grenier news, the fanbase was eating it up. Now it seems like theres a new kid being pencilled in every opening night roster LOL. We have to keep our expectations in check with all these young players
-
Yeah I did watch the games, fact is Petterson was much more dynamic with Goldobin on his line. Stats say so, our power play was better, and most and importantly our RECORD was better. Im not saying its mostly Goldobin but he has to get some credit. People can yap all they want "Goldys just getting 2nd assists" (which by the way is wrong, hes had quite a bit of 1st ones, directly to dispell that), the puck ended up in the back of the net. Thats the result we wanted right? After the the all star break, I believe there was a stretch where the team went like 20-25 days without scoring PP goal, Leivo was in the PP why wasn't the result the same then? People can have a lot of excuses, Leivo had a good stretch, but couldn't get it done. Seems to me you're blaming Goldys play for the Canucks loses, you've seen our defenceman right? Is there a mishap here and there on Goldobins part, sure, hes still a young player, thats to be expected. But to act as if the puck is ending up in the back of the net because of him everytime hes on the ice is just non sense. Your last comment saying EP can produce without Boeser, yes that true, Brock was missed 4-5 games in November I think?, guess who was with EP? Goldobin. EP40 still needs his wingers to help him produce, he's not a one man show that just trots out on the ice and turns pylons into art ross candidates. Simply put, he produced with one guy, and didn't with the other guy. Theres evidence of that already statistically, even analytics, which im not a fan of, even back it up. As for teams gunning for EP40, tayloring their defences to shut him down, NHL teams aren't stupid. When you're scoring a goal a game, teams probably had EP40 circled by the 20th - 30th game. They can tell and have scouted the team enough way way WAY prior to the all star break knowing who the spotlight should be on.
-
Yup you've brought up good points as well as the other guys have about the competition being tougher, and fatigue, I get that, I never said Goldy was the reason, but he did help. By November, teams were already gunning for Petey already, and he was still producing at a torrid pace. I think people forget that Boeser was out for a period of time I think November or December and EP40 and Goldy were still producing. The thing that needs be pointed out is just the massive drop off in EP40's production. I can understand there will be a drop off with fatigue and the grind of the season. But when his pace was 40 - 50 goals, 100 pts before the new year to having a 11 game goal less streak, not many points since the all star break, theres a cause for concern. If you go to the barber and take a few inches off your hair, some people may notice, some people may not, but you go for a complete buzz cut, I think people would notice the difference which Im trying to point out. EP40's production just went completely south and his play as well, theres way more games where he was pretty much invisible, thats not a ringing endorsement for a guy that earlier in the season was being compared to 99. Goldy's got deficiancies in his game which I hope he addresses in the off season but the team isn't at a position to be giving up on prospects with one real season under their belt.

I think the problem might be Utica itself similar to when the Canucks had their affiliate with the Chicago Wolves. Utica Comets and Chicago Wolves are still a business and the bottom line is that business is good which means, they their priority is winning. I know having Utica is has its benefits, great crowd, short commute to games meaning more practices and downtime, but the business itself has to compete with other sporting events as we all know, the NY area as well as when they were in the Chicago area, quite saturated with never ending number of proffesional teams, competing for the all mighty consumer dollar. The benefit of having the affiliate, lets just say Abbotsford (or Langley), the teams focus will be more towards development, putting young Canuck prospects in the forefront, win or lose, because theres a rabid fanbase here for anything Canucks. Theres MORE than enough people to sell out an Abbotsford team because fans won't care about the results, as long as they see the young guns play. I think Jim Benning will probably have to weigh that as an option, especially now that that AHL has grown more Western teams in the last few years or so

You haven't answered my question, How come Leivo hasn't been able to do the same thing? You act like your smarter than everybody else, asking for evidence and calling out assumptions and yet you haven't provided any answers.
-
Perish the thought! Kanukfanatic's IQ isn't all that high, so don't let that nitwit bother you
-
Geez thats just an assumption. Do you have any evidence supporting thing? Good GOD!!!! Sorry just buggin you bud, making my best Kanukfanatic impression which is trying to act smart and making stupid comments at the same time. I agree with you though too, EP40 is playing more games in a season in the best league in the world, against the best athletes proffesional hockey has to offer. On any given rookie season, 65 points would be WAY WAY past whatever we have expected, but just the rate EP40 was scoring in the beginning of the season maybe just got us fans over our heads, I mean who wouldn't. The guy in 30 games was on pace for 40 goals and a 100pts. I have no doubt he'll be better next year
-
Petterson was ripping up the league with Goldy playing beside him for a very large majority of Oct - end of Nov., Leivo comes into the fold, takes Goldy's place in the top line, Petterson doesn't score as much. Im not saying its the main reason, but it sure as hell is part of it. Theres numbers to back it up, Pettersons most dominant games have come with Goldy and Boeser in the same line. Thats your evidence. 5pt game against St. Louis blues, Goldy was on that line, 7-6 win Colorado, Goldy was on that line, and many others. Why hasn't Leivo been able to replicate that? Good god, youre a moron. Look at the home site CDC under the word "schedule", and then "game calendar", Im not sure if you know since I doubt you've graduated passed the 2nd grade, but a game calendar, shows each game the canucks played. Amazing isn't it.

2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver, BC

I'd even think that Demko would have MORE value than Markstrom if anything. Marky's had one good season, but theres also the previous 5 or 6 bad seasons on the resume. Teams are not going to discount that. They have enough tape on Markstrom previous seasons that 1 good season is all of a sudden going to make that disappear. I'd like to think a smart GM would take the upside of the unknown, whos younger and has the pedigree and accomplishments in the prior levels , over a guy that had1 good season out of 5 - 6 bad ones that all of a sudden wants a big payday. Pretty easy decision if you ask me -
A lot of Kassian's points were with the twins, big difference. Jake would be lucky to see 2nd line minutes, let alone top line mins with 2 hall of famers. I like Jake, I think theres a good player somewhere in there, but it if he's gone in the summer, I wouldn't be suprised either. Virtanen out of the bubble guys has the most value, and the addition of Pearson and Leivo who are both fairly big players, have somewhat made him expendable. The problem with Jake is I don't even think HE knows what kind of player he's supposed to be
-
Im not sure if anybody read it right but i did mention the word YOUNG. Calder Selke and Conn Smythe, thats going to be tough to match whether its McCann or even our own Elias Pettersson. I was refering to McCann's style of play lately has been looking like a young Toews. They are practically the same size, skating is similar, contributing on both special teams, from what I SEE, thats the comparison, doesn't mean he's gonna accomplish what Toews is done. If he does, thats great. Every one said before Crosby was the next Gretzky, does he play like the Great one? Not even close, he's closer to Forsberg IMO if anything. What Im saying is stylistically, thats what I've seen from McCann lately comparing him to Toews.
-
I agree, the comparison is quite striking. Both are above average skaters, not excellent but very good at a lot of things on the ice. Higgins might be a tad better on the boards but Tanner's got better finish. Great trade for the Canucks, can't wait to see what Pearson's got for an encore next season. Im predicting a very quiet 25 goal season
-
EP40 has kind of fallen off ever since the Leivo trade, and Green's penchant on favoring him. It wasn't a bad trade by any means, but now we are seeing that Goldy DID have hand in EP40's success, it just wasnt a guy just riding on his success. Goldy was able to get Pettersson the puck in good spots to score. They can say what they want about Goldy's deficiancies but he clearly had a hand in Petterssons success early in the season, thats why I wouldn't give up on him just yet

2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver, BC

Im not saying Demko should be the starter next season, but he needs to have a chance at least at a 60/40 split . Markstrom played well since December, I get that, but extending him this summer is a bad idea. Markstrom plays well next season, he'll be in line for a bigger contract, probably a million plus than what hes going to be getting if he extends in the summer, thats fine. I don't mind overpaying for 2 seasons of great goaltending, but 1? I don't think so. Its not so much the money but the term, what if Markstrom has a bad season next year? You're stuck with an another albatross contract. It is a much wiser move to see what Demko can do first before committing to anything for markstrom, if it costs a million more per season on his next contract, so be it. Remember, Demko was drafted by THIS management team, and they INHERITED Markstrom. I don't think a season of good play is going to sway Jim Benning to all of a sudden keep him, knowing the fact that the goalie they earmarked as the goalie of the future (Demko) is trending upwards. If anything, I think the fans are just starting to get impatient again and trying to build a winner immediately rather than sticking to the plan -
2019 NHL Entry Draft in Vancouver, BC
filthycanuck replied to Qwags's topic in Prospects / Farm Team
LOL you're sold after like 5-6 months of play? You must be a sucker whenever a salesman approaches you. Your post probably lacks any substance after you said Markstrom is way better than Luongo. Sorry to dissappoint, Luongo on his worst day will ALWAYS BE BETTER than Markstrom. Roberto can use an oven mitt as a catching glove with Stamkos firing one timers 10 feet away from him, and he'll still be better than Markstrom. -

Im not sold on Dach or Cozens, I think they are just ok, players, I don't see why they are so highly rated. Peyton Krebs is gonna be a good one, Im not sure his upside is high, but he'll carve out a pretty good career, think Brendan Gallagher. I think Alex Turcotte is going to be a superstar
