  1. Get him to play WITH Tryamkin. That would be a lot of beef on the blue line if it ever happens.
  2. Ive watched Schenn play closely the last few games now, it strikes me how simple he plays the game in comparison to Guddy. Schenn for the most part keeps it quite simple, easy first passes, being physical, if the play isn't there, puck is off the boards or passing the puck along the boards instead of risky cross ice bombs that Gudbranson likes to do. Im just ranting now, might be a bit messy, but I was just reading a few things on Schenn on his days in Toronto, LA (im trying to summarize it), scouting reports. I remember Schenn being one of the Leafs better defencemen when he first broke in but just like typical Toronto, the fanbase got to him, seems like they wanted more, and so did LA, and Phoenix, everybody wanted Schenn to take a leap to be this game changing defenceman but it didn't work. The inital scouting of Schenn seems to be stay at home, great first pass Dman with almost no offensive accumen but very physical. McGuire even said that he didn't have a point on WJC and he was the best defenceman from tip to tail in the tournament. Maybe the reason he is doing so well here is management isn't really looking at him as a guy that still HAS potential or upside, and we are just expecting a physical, competent defenceman which he truly was in the first place. I didn't know this but Tyler Myers was his D-partner in Kelowna , could Myers be a fit here? Schenn is playing well and he deserves a 1 way deal at the very least
  3. I agree. They can say what they want about Goldobin, hes at least good for 3-4 scoring chances a night from either his shot or passing the puck. Can't say the same for Ericsson, Granlund Schaller or Spooner. I don't think ive seen any moments of significance from Spooner since he's been here, Granlund is his usual self which is doing nothing, and Ericsson was terrible tonight with that 2nd goal give away
  4. Nope, but theres gonna be a lot of posts about you being a moron. Who is this Hughs you are talking about? Whats whinging?
  5. He wishes. When the fans see $4million paid towards a defenseman thats constantly injured and plays like an AHL calibre player when hes healthy, I think everybody has the right to get pissed off
  6. Newsflash, nobody cares if hes doing good in Pittsburgh. Guddy is trash, and if he wasn't in Pittsburgh, he'd be one step from the AHL or playing in Europe. Like the other guy said, Gudrbanson had 3 years to prove he worth the money he was getting paid, and he failed miserably. For 4 million, I dont care whether he's paired with Paul Coffey, or a bar stool on the ice, he has to look decent which he hasn't done
  7. I think with McCann might be a different situation this time around. If he does well next year, I can see the Pens moving Kessell. At some point the Pens have to get a bit younger
  8. When you're getting paid $4 million a year, doesn't matter who his partner is, Guddy has to look at the very least decent. If anything, Guddy's partner has sometimes played better than Guddy HIMSELF when their on a pairing. When a player is getting that kind of money, $4 million means that you're a pretty decent defenceman, you don't need another dman to prop you up. As for Keith Ballard, I didn't think he was bad at all, he really got the short end of the stick with that moron AV favoring his pet Aaron Rome. He wasn't worth the 4 million, but he's an awful lot better when he played than Biega, Pouliot, Sbiza and sure as hell better than Gudbranson
  9. thats what i meant, he defintely wasn't the worst or even 2nd worst. We sure as hell could've needed him this year thats for sure considering the garbage the Canucks have been trotting out there on the blue line
  10. I wouldnt say its my favorite, but the fact we got rid of that craphole Gudbranson was a massive achievement on its own. I was just expecting a puck, not even a bag of pucks, for Gudbranson and we got an NHLer that still has some youth and upside
  11. Im not sure if he reaches us, but man oh man, if we are picking 10 and below, I'd be happy if we got our hands on Alex Turcotte. The kid can absolutely play
  12. Mallet wasn't even in ANY of the other teams draft boards. Absolutely way out of left field pick by that dumbass Mike Gillis. He tried to reinvent the wheel with his drafting prowess
  13. I'll take Gaunce over Loui anyday even if its just salary purposes. Ericsson doesn't bring $5million worth more than Gaunce. I'd stick with Pearson though, if he ever regains his form like in LA, just a solid 20 goal guy with size, Im fine with him being on the team
  14. Larsen - didn't really play a whole lot when he was here so its hard to gauge Bartkowski - yeah pretty bad, 1 million pile of crap vs 4 million, thats the big issue. 18pts in 1 season, Gudranson has 19 in 3 Weber - can skate, was pretty good on the PP , again, thats a 1 million dollar player that actually did something Pouliot - terrible this year, was barely decent last year, again, 1 milion vs 4 million You're smoking some pretty good crack if you think Gudbranson is 3 million$ better than those guys. Add to the fact that Gudbranson probably was injured more games than those 4 COMBINED. Salary should matter, $4million you should expect at the VERY VERY VERY least a competent defenceman that can put up 10 pts season, and thats having the bar being low
  15. Tryamkin is an NHLer without a doubt, he was one of our better defenceman while he was here. His size was a massive advantage for him in the smaller ice. I remember his first game against Colorado here, my gosh, the guy with his wingspan with his stick took up a quarter of the defensive zone. Its ridiculous how big Nikita is seeing him live. I think its more of the culture shock of moving here ESPECIALLY newly married. Lifestyle in NA is completely different than in Russia. Some Russian players see the NHL as just a job, and some russians see it as an escape FROM Russia, living the "american dream" or land of oppurtunity that sorta deal. Take Goldy for example, came here to Canada to play juniors, and from what it sounds like loves being NA because of lifestyle, the people, entertainment etc, Kovalchuk on the other hand goes where the money leads him, and (from what Ive read) Yakupov would rather be in the NHL or NA but is in the KHL because its paying him the most. To summarize, some guys want the north american dream and some are just very loyal to the motherland, Tryamkin strikes me as the latter, at least from when he was here but things can change.
  16. I agree with Shayster. Better defenseman?, no (not yet at least), better skater? Tryamkin, absolutely. Edler takes the puck out of our zone like he barely cares, with little to no urgency. Have you not watched Edler the last like what, 5 years? When Tryamkin was playing, there were times were he would LEAD the rush up the ice. The big man can skate very well, not just the fact that he's 6'7 but in general
  17. Having Crosby and Malkin helps quite a bit. They spend a lot of their time on the other end putting the the puck in the net and both are VERY responsible in their own end as well. Justin Schultz was absolutely awful in Edmonton, goes to Pittsburgh and hes half decent. A team like Pittsburgh can make pylons like Gudbranson look better than what he really is. If you accounted, scoring, + -, games played, salary, there can be a REAL solid case that Gudbranson could be the worst Canuck defenceman in the last 10 years
  18. Its gonna be tough getting into the lineup the way the team is playing, ill admit that. I think one more year should be sufficient enough time to see what hes done. Its hard enough getting good players in the draft as it is, let alone have them be successful in AHL then graduate to the big leagues. Remember, Baertchi, and Granlund came from trades from Calgary who gave up on both of them, and we've reaped the benefits of it. We've won those trades handidly. Its his first full season, I'd rather be patient with Goldy and if he fails next year, I'd rather have that than trading him and he unlocks the potential that we've seen flashes of here
  19. Yes thats why hes having hard time making in the NHL, oh wait, hes here. As soon as the trade with Shark and Canucks was made, Goldobin was in the lineup. He must have gotten some parts of his stint in AHL to make it to the bigs The Sharks are in championship mode, and have depth in their prospect pool to get a Jannik Hansen. And in Utica, he was their best player on MANY nights he was there. Baertchi was a liablity and so was his effort, exact same case, he was scratched for many games in a row during that time. If he wasnt liability, he would've been in the regular in the lineup which he wasn't at that time at 23. Im noticing people can't make up their minds in general on how Utica develops their prospects and just expects ready made stars to come out of the farm. Lind isn't putting up the numbers, but hes playing the right way, everybodys complaining that his development is slow or messed up. Goldy dominated as a Comet, then everybody wants him run out of town in his first full season LOL. Im not sure if the expectations are now higher just because Boeser, Petey, Horvat and even Gaudette all are contributors early, but for a player to struggle at 22-23 isn't unusual. Seems like most people think that as soon as they are in the big club, they are all 200 ft players thats gonna score every other night. Thats wishful thinking. And don't even get me started with the ridiculous proposals, Goldy for a 2nd, or Goldy for Fabbro or Jake Bean, "we need a young defenceman" deals. Aint' happening unless theres 1st or Raymond and Ballard going the other way.
  20. Not many Friends fans Im guessing!
  21. I was at the Habs game when Petey unleashed that one timer from the right circle (took him twice to get it in from the same spot), top corner blocker side. The velocity from his shot is incredible live and up close. Watch when he's rushing with the puck, you'll see some subtle moves that the angle from the tv cameras just don't get, very impressive
  22. Yes hes not producing enough, but keep in mind, Baerthchi and Goldobin at the same age at 23 have almost the exact point totals, +-, with almost the same (Im assuming Goldy will play 5-7 more games this year) amount of games played, did we give up on Baertchi? No we didn't. Sven had the exact problems Goldobin has right now, flashy plays and sub par defensively and effort. Baertchi came back the next year, injuries aside, was a mainstay in the lineup. If this is a persistent problem NEXT year then all bets are off. Baertchi at 23 played 69 games i believe, Goldy is at 62 as off this season with games left. We need guys like Goldy, Lind etc. to develop somehow and become contributors so we have to be patient. I don't think anybodys mentioned this point but also for salary cap reasons. We can't keep signing or trading for guys that are making 3 plus million as bandaid until the young guys "get it" and play a 200 ft game. The team needs players that will score above what their contract value is, entry level deals, qualified RFAs. Minnesota Wild tried that before, just signing name guys in the summer (Suter, Parise, and I think Vanek?), look how its turned out for them? Have they even won a playoff round since? No finals, no stanley cup
  23. Its not so much the pts, its the fact that guys like Granlund, Ericsson have been given PLENTY of rope even though they are clearly not going to be in this team going forward. Thats why people are pissed. To hell with just December, how about those 2 guys, what have they done since a year and a half? They are harping on Goldy on his first full season. The team is not in the position of giving up on prospects so soon. Is Lind, and Gadjovich the answer? Not next year, and if they happen to make the team a year after, guess what? They'll be making the same mistakes Goldy is making and producing, if we're lucky 10 goals and maybe 20pts. Im not sure whether the Petterson effect has happened where all of a sudden, ok, we gotta expadite this rebuild faster. Doesn't work that way, we can't be tempted just because we are playing meaningful games in March just to give up on talent, especially talent thats still untapped. Geez Jake Virtanen has gotten plenty of rope with this team, nobody says anything about his points, the guy has 3 empty netters this season and has 3 shots in what, the last 5 games? Does Goldy make mistakes, yes, but we've also seen what he can do offensively. He's hit a few posts and guys haven't been burying his passes, so what? Hes noticeable, good or bad, before the NJ game ( I thought he actually played well against the Devils) He's had a long streak of good games and at least being noticeable, more than Virtanen who just skates laps around the rink with nothing to do. Am I ready to give up on Jake? Nope, but the standard has to be set if Granlund and Ericsson don't do anything, they should be riding the pine also. Honestly if we are just gonna give up on Goldy, we might as well stop drafting or trading for high end talent with flaws and just go for sure things with lower upside. Its completely useless of getting players with upside with flaws and not give them a chance to work through them. The Canucks still need talent in their roster, they are not gonna win with 1 scoring line and the bottom 6 are all Antoine Roussels especially the way the game is trending
  24. Goldy had one bad mishap after 7 ish good games in a row, and then everybodys back to Goldy doesn't get it. Funny how that works because during the 7 good games, "goldy's finally got it! the switch went on!"
