  1. Was at the game tonight, Jake was incredible, and yes that shot is LEGIT. I saw Boesers shots ( I know there might be something wrong with him ) tonight, and it looked like he was firing muffins at Crawford. I wonder if they'll start deploying Jake once in awhile on the Petteson line with Goldy to see if something clicks. Ericsson had some good moments tonight, but from what Ive seen ( and other games ) his hands are done. That once chance that he had in front of the net from Petterson, I had a good vantage point in the game , barely did anything with it, no patience whatsoever. Ericsson had some slick mitts back in the day but Im afraid that his skills are diminishing fast
  2. I can see why management, most notably Judd Brackett was so high on him. Jake Wise was consensus pick, but I like how Brackett explained why Madden was chosen. If Skill and size was all things being equal, the lightest guy has more upside (Wise at about 185lbs, and Madden 150 lbs) I never saw it in that light because previous regime would always figure to pick the bigger, heavier guy = more NHL ready. Benning and Co. are clearly looking at 3-5 years down the road, taking risks on much higher ceilings that going for guys that are just good enough to contribute in the NHL in 2 years. The reasoning of Brackett makes sense, if the lighter guy can do the same thing as the heavier guy, imagine if they mature physically. Hopefully Madden pans out, so far the returns have been very positive
  3. If Nikita is back here by March, small chance (no pun intended) his defensive partner could be another rookie Dman making his debut. Hint: Hes playing for Michigan right now =)
  4. Virtanen wouldn't have been picked if he was from anywhere else but BC. Ehlers and Nylander had a ton more talent. But then again, I heard Benning said they were really hoping for Dal Colle, so could've been worse. Im not sure Dal Colle will ever pan out, like you mentioned, at least we got a more than competent NHL player with upside rather than a guy can't even crack an NHL roster
  5. Comparing Elias to the Great one is far fetched but stylistically, I agree. EP just puts blindpasses to an open area of the ice and you see Goldy or Ericsson reacting but a step back which shows EP clearly knows where the play is going to go. EP , in my opinion is like you said, is very similar to Datsuk, although Pavel has has more wheels but Elias has a much more lethal shot
  6. Uhm no. Forsberg and Petterson games are absolutely look NOTHING alike. They both have great hands, yes, but they are completely different players. Petterson is a finesse player, and Forsberg has a power game. The guy who plays almost exactly like Forsberg thats playing in the NHL right now would be Sidney Crosby. Petterson would dodge and weave through checks while Forsberg would actual welcome checks and use the physicality to his advantage
  7. Unfortunately thats the barest minimum, which isn't good enough for a roster spot. Gaunce has to bring something else to the table. If he had an edge or even was a consistent 50- 55 percent in faceoffs he'd be in the lineup.
  8. I wasnt really high on HIshcier or Patrick. As much as everybody at that time was tooting on the Cody Glass horn, I was hoping for Casey MIddelstadt who I think will be a very good player, but good on Benning to take Pettersson. As far as the best player in the draft, too early to say. I dunno if you saw highlights of MIro Heiskanen play the other night, the kid looked absolutely ELECTRIC, I can see why Dallas didn't want to give him up for Karlsson
  9. He is now after the game tonight. Hands down the best player we had against the Yotes. Turned it up when the spotlight was on him
  10. Players get signed and waived all the time (ex: Wieroch from last year). That being said, I'd rather give Schaller a chance than Granlund. We've seen what Granlund can do which is not a whole lot. Rather give a spot to a player with a defined role that actually does something, than Granlund who does a whole lot of nothing
  11. I agree that Goldy is a lock. Simply put, theres a lot of factors that are going in his favor 1) Chemistry with EP and Baertchi. Its one thing that the line has been consistently be together during games, its another that they are also together in PRACTICE as well. Clearly Travis and the coaching staff sees something that a lot of us dont see.Tethering his talents to the Golden swedish child really really helps his cause 2) Having an impressive camp and preseason 3) His waiver status 4) Louis Ericsson injury If you add all of them together , it seems like hes a shoe in to be in the opening roster. When Goldy came up camp, he had to prove himself to be on the team. The narrative now is trying to find reasons to have him NOT be on the team. Hes done very well and can't wait to see what he does this season
  12. Crop infrastructure is absolutely killing it for me right now. 300% gain in 3 months
  13. I remembered his last season here and there was maybe like 5-7 games where he LOOKED liked a Norris calibre defenseman (most notably that one game against the Preds) Nikita was just crushing guys left and right, and showing off his skating ability. Its scary if he ever puts it all together but that remains to be seen if he does. Hes a game changer when hes on his A game. I saw some Islanders games when Chara was still there, I know its a different era but Tryamkin was much much much better at the same age. Chara was just big and plodding, you would've NEVER known that same Chara would be a future Norris trophy winner and probably a HOFer
  14. I dont think he needs to have a golden camp, but he has to be noticeable. All things being equal, between Goldy Granlund and Gaunce, Goldy should win out unless he really bombs at camp. The other 2 had their chance as a full time NHLer, Goldy hasn't and has already shown that he can produce if given the chance.
  15. Hughes will get more time in the gym in comparison to being in the AHL where he needs to travel and its rigours, wouldn't you rather have him in the gym or in the rink rather than in the bus? Also in Michigan, hes gonna be their go to guy in the backend, PP1 and PK1, down by a goal or up by a goal, hes the man, and he'll get his minutes rather than in the A where he will probably have an adjustment period and work his way up
  16. I have no doubt Hughes can play in the NHL BUT its lasting the whole season is the problem, thats why, as much I don't want to admit, he needs to go back to college and bulk up. I know its been said, can't hit what you can't catch in terms of Hughes skating, but can anybody name a D-man that hasn't gotten hit in an 82 game season? Exactly When Hughes circles around to get the puck, its gonna be Dustin Brown, Cory Perry, etc gunning for Hughes in the corners with a 170lb bullseye on his back. If you're that slight, and you get hit by 220lbs of NHL muscle, its going to hurt, whether its the first hit or the 1000th. Quinn needs to bulk up, like what Rathbone did. This is for his long term development, not just for the sake of dreaming of making to the playoffs the 1st year as an 18 year old
  17. LOL You kidding me? McCann is on the cusp of breaking out for the Panthers and is ahead of Virtanen in terms of development, plus we gave up a pick. Gudbranson has done F-all since hes been a Canuck. Big but doesnt hit, couldnt catch up to a pylon in a race, cant score, can't pass, oh and you sneeze at him, he gets injured
  18. Out of all the guys we drafted, this is Manukyan is the guy Im most intrigued by since hes such an unknown and a curiousity. If that guy even makes it to Utica and be an option as a call up, thats already a win for the organization
  19. I was expecting to for them to pick Glass and they picked Petersson. At first glance I was a bit upset but then I realized it was a good pick. The problem the Canucks have had is that we are always trying to pick the safest guy with somewhat a high floor, never going for that home run pick, the guy that has a bit of red flags but thats got superstar potential. That what it came down and I liked the pick afterwards. We aren't just settling for a guy thats a 2nd liner and we get a pat on the back, we are getting a guy in Elias Petterson that if all goes well, could be one of the top guys in the LEAGUE let alone a 1st liner. Hopefully it does happen
  20. It would take the RIGHT deal to trade Baertchi, but he is in a cross roads since a lot of players are gunning for his spot. If a Cale Clague from LA is offered (doubt it) or you have the right trading partner where theres a need for a supplementary scorer in exchange for a young D-man that can't make it because of a full roster, thats worth looking to.
  21. There was a time when Canuck fans were going bonkers on Jannik Hansen, or Alex Grenier coming up the ranks LOL. A guy is Jasek is climbing the depth charts, and we are luke warm, not because of what hes done so far which is great, its because SO many of our prospects are turning heads, its a guy like Jasek in the mid 2000's would light up our message boards. The Canucks are absolutely brimming with prospects, and im super excited on what the future is gonna look
  22. After watching Lucic play this season, Im perfectly fine have Eriksson here. At least Louie contributes in other ways, Lucic can barely keep up even on an Oilers PP
  23. I'd take Sautner over Gudbranson already. Gudbranson is just a warm body playing in he backend, and Sautner has offered more, only less than a quarter of what Gudbranson's salary is.
  24. You can't assume Gadjovich or Dahlen will be ready for the NHL next year, and Gaunce is pretty much done as a Canuck since Archie makes him expendable.
  25. I had Middestadt as my pick, who might turn out to be pretty good too.
