I agree, although best case scenario is that Benning just tells Bieksa "hey we aren't resigning u next year, might as well pack your bags" The only ones who want Bieksa back are the homers who are stuck living in the past that think Bieksa is a top 4 D-man. Theres 3 guys that play a similar role like him, and frankly for 4 million plus playing bottom pairing minutes doesn't make any sense. Weber has been fairly decent defensively, but has the offensive production to warrant at least another contract. The guy had 2nd most goals from the back end last year and tops this year, a plus player for a majority of the year with an 850k cap hit. Give your head a shake if you dont think thats money well spent and then some

I watched the skills competition in the mid 90's, the last year the Canucks played in the Pacific Coliseum, and Linden beat Bure as the fastest skater in the Canucks

As per Matt Sykaris ( whatever his name is spelled) this morn, Markstrom has stated to Canucks management that he doesn't intend to sign his RFA tender, in short, he wants out of this organization. Can't really blame the guy, I dont think hed ever expect having a full time league in the minors and having to jump over 2 people to get to start. Woudve been nice though to see him get a chance at the backup job while Lack gets shipped for some assets.

Kassian has done nothing pretty much all year, he should be the odd guy out. Everytime Mattias, Richardson, or Hansens name comes up as a candidate for the pressbox, they seem to perform. Right now, those 3 guys are playing really well, Kassian gets numerous amounts of chances. Wheres the production? or the impact for that matter. Bo got his first goal great, the fact that hes been awesome on the faceoffs this early in his career, and defensively responsible, theres a role he can play in this team that benefits him MUCH more than junior. People should start taking off the rose coloured glasses with Kassian. Hes had little or no impact on this team, i know the potential is there but there comes a point where, "do SOMETHING to get noticeable". The first line is getting back on a roll, the second line has been terrific, Dorsett has been consistent, and the the 3 bottom 6 guys i mentioned have been playing very well. Linden Vey has been decent, but has the numbers to show he can play. Kassian is the odd guy out of this group, the fans are just to enamoured on the coolaid MG was serving

Great post, Penguins will have to over pay. Trust me, if Kesler being on their team wins them the cup this year, they wont care if Bennett or Pouliot scores 80 goals each for the Canucks next year. Fact is they won the cup, mission accomplished. I agree with your point that I was explaining earlier, the demand for Kesler especially in the East is so high, that overpayment is a given if not, hes going to their competition. This is far different from the Luongo saga where Gillis had a specific price and its not being met. This Kesler situation is a complete 180 in which the Canucks demands are not only being met, but theres gonna bidding war on who could exceed those demands the most
-
The price for Kesler is SOOOO high its crazy, and its not the Canucks dictating it, its the demand. From what Pierre McGuire pointed out in his interview earlier today, if Pominville was worth a 4 piece deal, hes a pretty good player, but lets get real, hes not in the same calibre as a Ryan Kesler, RK17 being under contract, his age, what he brings, hes the guy teams, especially in the east salivate over. McGuire pointed out that Habs are the most interested in Kesler, and asked a habs fan, what would you think it would take to get Kesler. The fan responded, Lars Eller, and Tinordi. Pierre laughed and pretty much said " the habs are gonna have to give up a lot more than that". If Pittsburgh offered up Bennet, and Pouliot, that would be just the starting point, everybody is going to be bidding for Kesler, theres no many if at all, Selke calibre centres in the east that does what Kes can do

I agree, he was playing well that game, Schroeder was being auditioned with the spotlight on him to be the 3rd line centre with Higgins and Hansen playing as the top line against the oilers. But that shot block, like you said, will resonate with Torts, and as soon as Santorelli screws up, Schroeder will be back in the fold. He won a lot of faceoffs that night as well, and was tenacious in the forecheck

As much as Bo looked pretty good tonight and good for the most part this preseason, hes got a good shot at being on being on the team at least for 9 games with all the suspensions, injuries, but returning him to junior would benefit him the most, hes going to be leader for a London Knights team that churns out superstars like candy and has a memorial cup berth, a lock for world junior championships, if he develops well and performs, I think hes not only going to be shoe in for next years team, but will be a really solid contributor. If anybody needs to go back, its Bo because hes got such a tremendous oppurtunity to grow and become a solid player he was meant to be

I agree that Gaunce is great positionally. If you remember that defensive play he did against the oiler forward (i forget who it was, I think it was Eberle?) on that wide open net, Gaunce made the right read and merely used his reach to prevent that goal from happening BUT that play could';ve gone either way because as you can see in the replay, he was a step behind . The point Im making is that Gaunce skating is way too slow at this level for now but the kid has a tremendous knowledge of the defensive side of the game... hes going to be a good one. I just think he should need some seasoning, and Im sure his skating will improve. Hodgson and the Sedins weren't exactly burners in the beginning but they turned out pretty decent. Gaunce will be a solid player after some seasoning and development, the kid can play, just not right now
-
From the way he skates..he looks eerily a lot like Trevor Linden awesome release though..liking the pick so far
-
AV's gonnna get mad, his precious Mason Raymond hates competition
-
He'll make our roster..then he'll get traded, just like the other castoffs that couldn't get a chance to succeed, like Hodgson, Grabner, Shirokov,...as long as AV's the coach, the chances Schroeder succeeding is very very slim...thats why im hoping for a coaching change
-
wow that backhand was incredible
-
to get Pulkinen in the 4th round is grand larceny
-
Wasn't Ohman ranked pretty up there in the Euro skaters?
-
No doubts..its not just who they draft ..but how they develop them..its insane! I don't know if any of u guys got to catch a Red wings preseason game ( i only saw one ) and watched how their prospects play...its crazy, they play almost exactly like the Red Wings that we see every season! yes i know the its the coaching, the philosophy thats instilled in these guys as soon as they put on the the Red Wings uniform, like shooting the puck from absolutely anywhere and often is what i've noticed that carried over to the young Wings prospects. He's not Swedish, but i got a peek at Tomas Tatar, he looks like hes gonna be one names will be hearing and crying about soon in the next few years
-
Its only one game so we'll have to wait and see..but judging from watching him tonite...ya it seems that he really is a bit overwhelmed, IMO it looks like he underestimated the speed of an NHL caliber defence, u can tell that some of his passes were a bit slow getting to the target and were easily taken care of by the Flames so in that sense basically, he still needs to adjust to an NHL speed which i have no doubt he will. There was some good moments though, like the one on in the 3rd ( i think Desbiens fed him the pass) right on the crease for a one timer but Irving gloved it down. All in all, we gotta take his debut with a grain of salt, the Flames pretty much iced 80% of their opening day roster tonite

Getting some info on Jordan from guys that actually watch him play live from MN is pretty awesome, very insightful
-
Burrows is AWESOME!!!!! I think though depending on how Cody and Jordan do, you can forseeably see Burrows dropping down to the third line(in a few years). MG wanted our team to have more grit, and be harder to play against...but guess what? Burrows does that VERY VERY well, people are fast to forget that Burrows made his mark on the Canucks as a solid defensive player that was a pain in the a$$ for the other team to play against. I think what was missing from the Canucks from the series with the Hawks was that "a$$hole" factor, the guy that would just run rampant and get guys off their game...before Burrows was with the Sedins, that was his bread and butter. Im not saying we should take Burr out of our top line because he's certainly earned that spot, but that is what really makes Burrows so special. He can play in pretty much any situation, like say in the future, Hodgson/Schroeder/ Samuelsson have a slump of sorts, AV has that option of sticking Burr in the first line. Look beyond the goals, even without scoring 30+ goals, Alex Burrows' defensive work, grit, and hardwork is still worth the $2million he's getting paid.
-
Hard to imagine how much higher would've been taken if he was 6'1 in his draft year
-
Assuming no forward moves are made in UFA...Jordan and Cody's chances of making the team at the same time might have been bumped up a bit after the Alex Burrows injury. Keep in mind Demitra suffered the same one and came back January. Im not sure the severity of it but i can see Burrows missing at least the first month and a half of the year as management won't rush Burr into a difficult decision. Scoring aside, we need Burr 100% for the defensive side as well
-
Brampton had no business being in the playoffs, Cody singlehandedly brought them there

Patrick Kane looks like an idiot with a mullet. I just wanna slap that mouth guard off his face, and let him chew on something worthwhile..like Byfugly's rear end
