[Report] Canucks fire Jim Benning, name Stan Smyl as interim GM
JC2 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
I don't believe Green is a bad coach rather his style did not suit the players and he's not the type of coach who adapts. Green is a systems coach and needs to have the players who match his system much like Desjardins. Boudreau can adapt and seems like he suits a younger team because it appears veteran teams tend to tune him out after a while. -
Boeser and Miller rumored to be on the block... the vultures have begun to circle.

Is Pettersson not the same player we expect him to be?
JC2 replied to b3nnyb's topic in Canucks Talk
There's no doubt Pettersson is struggling mightily but I think CDC needs to take a collective chill pill. I am just as disappointed as anyone else about the season so far and the teams performance but we all know this is Pettersson at his worst. I have no doubt he is being harder on himself than anyone else which is why he's struggling so much. Regardless if this season turns out to be a bust or not I trust Pettersson will be fine. This team needs to forge an identity and I don't think they will do it with the current system in place. It's like nobody knows their roles and expectations don't seem to be met with consistent consequences. I have supported Green and Benning because as a Canuck fan thats my job, to support the team that is presented. Unfortunately my patience is worn out and want to see change. A new coach would suffice at the moment and perhaps Benning too if nothing changes. I believe we have a good core group and with a few more additions, preferably to the defense, and the right leadership from the coach this team can compete. -
[Report] Sharks claim Jonah Gadjovich off waivers
JC2 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Sad to see him get claimed and I understand the frustration but in the end he didn't fit the role they were looking for so they rolled the dice and lost unfortunately. With Motte and Sutter being hurt, Hamonic potentially being a no show and losing Edler to FA I think they are looking for PK options more than anything. -
He reminds me more of Dan Hamhuis personally. I think Bieska is a fair comparison as well but like Hamhuis Woo has the steady and quiet demeanor about his game. He's willing to stick up for teammates and has enough skill to complement the forwards. Bieska to me was a little more high risk high reward while Hamhuis was not as noticeable but in a good way.

[Signing] Canucks sign Danila Klimovich
JC2 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I remember the knock on him being more on the mental side of the game, can anyone elaborate on this? Is he considered immature or does he need to learn to think the game better? He seems to have a good attitude, skill and the physical maturity to be in the NHL sooner rather than later so I'm curious as to why we wasn't selected earlier. -
[Rumor] Nate Schmidt being dealt very soon any minute now
JC2 replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I feel the same. I honestly didn't believe the rumors, even up till yesterday, but I thinks it been more denial than anything else. There is just too much smoke for there not to be fire. I feel like with a full offseason and full training camp Schmidt could have rebounded quickly and considering what little it took to acquire him its a shame. Hopefully a good replacement can be had through the trade itself or by free agency but the market is slim at the moment. -
[Rumor] Nate Schmidt being dealt very soon any minute now
JC2 replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I dont think it's a matter of not being able to move him it's not needing to. If Benning was so desperate to move cap space I think a deal would have been done by now, even if he was to retain some cap. Schmidt is still a good asset with value and losing him will weaken the defense. Looking at the market there is nobody that would be an upgrade or even as good as him. I'd rather let him redeem himself first before I'd ever think of moving him and that's assuming someone steps up and can take his spot or another team offers a good replacement. -
This deal will be looking either very good or very bad in a couple of seasons. I don't think there is much of a middle ground. We have to hope OELs struggles were mostly due to being on a bad team and that Garland continues to trend into a top 6 player. Even if Larsson can be Edler like it's good. If not then we essentially got another Loui on defense and another eventual overpaid 3rd liner. I'm cautiously optimistic so I'm going to say it's going to be good.

Jim Benning to speak to the media Thursday prior to draft
JC2 replied to Bertuzzipunch's topic in Canucks Talk
I would prefer Benning keep the assets and wait till next off season. Why squander what few chips we have to get temporary relief when whatever moves he would make won't make much of a difference this season anyway. It's not like we are two players away from being a contender. The only moves I want to see are for players who fit the age group going forward and who are affordable. Hopefully the team can at least be respectful this year. -
I dont think it's our destiny lol

[Report] Jim Benning to return for next season
JC2 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
I'm glad the charade is over, for now at least. I don't agree with all of Bennings moves and I wouldn't have complained if he was replaced but he is still the GM and hopefully will be left alone to do his job. Next year will determine his future with this team. He needs to draft well again and the team needs to bounce back hard. He won't have covid as another exscuse for a second time. -
There seems to be a lot of mention of guadettes wife. Can anyone elaborate to what she said/done?

[Signing] Canucks re-sign Tanner Pearson
JC2 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Don't understand the hate for this deal. I know most of the veteran signings have not panned out but most of those bad deals will be gone within the next couple of years and with more young players being inserted into the lineup we will need the veterans more than ever. Pearson is still in his prime, good leader, good two way player, has good chemistry with Bo and has good playoff experience. I'm giving almost the entire team a mulligan this season so all in all I like this deal. -
Francesco Aquilini says "I have no plans to make changes."
JC2 replied to AriGold2.0's topic in Canucks Talk
I'm not worried about the future because the core is solid like you said. Last season was definitely a case of overachieving due to it being a covid season and some stellar goaltending from Markstrom. Whoever ends up being the GM next year needs to shore up the bottom six and hopefully bring in a good defensive defenseman. I think Green is a good coach and will definitely remain in the league but something has to give and he's the easiest target. -
Francesco Aquilini says "I have no plans to make changes."
JC2 replied to AriGold2.0's topic in Canucks Talk
Don't see green being fired at this point but don't see him back neither. Don't think the owner wants to be paying two coaches salaries. At this point I'd rather the team bottom out and get a lotto pick because they just don't have the mental toughness to go far in the playoffs even if a miracle happened and they made it in. -
I think it's clear that the team overachieved last year due to great goaltending and the season being short. Losing a few players should not make this team implode like this but at least we know where we really stand. I'm beginning to think Benning might have served his purpose. His superior drafting ability has provided the team with a good core and now we need an experienced gm to add to the core.

[Rumour] Alex Pietrangelo to test free agency
JC2 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Without Boeser the canucks dont have a 2nd line. -
[Rumour] Tyler Toffoli to hit free agency
JC2 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Well I wouldn't expect toffoli to just sit around and wait so hopefully if he is trying to move cap then he should pick up the pace. -
[Signing] Flames sign Christopher Tanev
JC2 replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The big question is who is going to replace his minutes? Now I'm not complaining about not resigning Tanev because I understand that locking him up long term had high potential to backfire but we cannot ignore the gaping hole that is left in his place. -
Even if a deal was done would they bother announcing it at this time of night?
-
Every single one of those players would be a no go for me and clearly its been a no go for Benning because a deal would of been done by now.

I've got a trip planned to the Caribbean coming up in April and assuming the planes are still flying I'm going. No way im self isolating if I feel fine.
