After a couple months nearly of going back and forth I think I would have to take Nylander at 6 if everything plays out the way it should.
His high end skill and especially at C with the option of starting at wing is exactly what our prospect pool could use at this point.
I'll trust whatever JB decides though.
Haha, you may be correct that we don't choose those players, but it's not because of this one random interview. Wanting to have a bigger team doesn't insure that you only draft bigger players with every draft pick you have, that is just silly.
So who is this franchise player?
From listening to you it sounds like we shouldn't even bother drafting this year, because everyone sucks and will be a bust.
^^ thanks for posting, I think a lot of people are forgetting about Guances offensive upside, myself included. Not a ton of flash there, but just tons of smart quick plays, and a good shot too.
Seems like a little too much, kes and the 2nd maybe...?
I'd rather keep the 6th and kes if that's what it took. Or see what it would take to get the 3rd from Edmonton, probably a lot cheaper and we still have either a 1C or top 2 D
Agreed,
But low QOC or not, his skating and vision is ubdeniable, he is the type of player who would thrive in the NHL with higher skilled line mates IMO.
Sad?
Maybe you're lost, because this is a hockey discussion forum and more particularly a discussion about the upcoming draft... So no, discussing draft eligible prospects is not sad.
Cool, I just wasn't sure how often the euro guys come over for it, I guess if they want to get drafted high they better.
I don't mind picking Ritchie, but if he comes into the combine out of shape I might start to wonder about his work ethic. I'd also like to see if Ehlers or nylander have filled out over the year.
Come on, you have to admit that Ehlers has more skill and definitely more speed than Ritchie, that's not even debatable.
I also think this team could use more speed and skill on it right now than size IMO.
IMO,
Ritchie and Virtanen have better chances of becoming NHL regulars.
But Ehlers and nylander and kapanen have better chances at becoming top 6 forwards. But they will also be either top 6 or nothing... So riskier in the long run.
So the question is do want to take the higher risk for a bigger reward, or play it a little safer and almost guarantee yourself some sort of roster player, with a lower chance of cracking the top 6.
Well luckily for Ehlers he has far more than just speed in his game. Agility, way above average hands, decent shot, great hockey IQ, very good playmaker, plays the PK. oh and he's 5'11" maybe 6', not 5'9".
Yea, sorry I wasn't talking about you as being short sighted, more some of the other posters who assume these guys have 0 chance in our division because they're not 6' 3 220lbs.
Except skating straight forward with his head down is not how he plays at all?
He beats guys off the rush, he beats them in tight in traffic, he dishes the puck off and finds open ice.
He's also defensively responsible and plays the PK.
I fully expect us to pick one of the PWF's I just don't think it's a foregone conclusion the smaller skill won't be able to play in our division.
I think I'll wait until the combine to form a concrete opinion on our options. I'm curious to see what kind of conditioning Ritchie has, 236lbs is awfully big for an 18 year old... And if a guy like Ehlers comes in at over 170 than he may overcome some of his size concerns. When he cracks the league he will probably be around 6' 180lbs, not big, but not overly small either.
