Who was/is the better back up? Schneider or Lack?
yes we can nucks replied to TheRick's topic in Canucks Talk
Disagree. Lack is doing great as a backup but it's way too early to say he should be a starter. Let him go through the normal process of a backup. Gain experience and learn from one of the greats. As for Schneider, he's proven that he can start. But his record and stats haven't been exceptional so far with NJ. Not enough to take the starter's job from Brodeur. I like the way NJ is giving Brodeur the respect he deserves... as long as he still shows he can play ... something Canucks should've done for Luongo. Canucks made Lu back up Schneider when he showed he could still play well. It would've been ok if Lu's play was terrible, but it wasn't, and it wasn't the reason the team was underperforming. Agree totally. -
Lu was amazing tonight. He's making a statement... that he's still capable of being the starter at Sochi. His stats have gradually improved to 9th in save % (.921) and 6th in GAA(2.19) among starting goalies. That should shut up the haters who brought up his 'bad' stats waaay too soon! Check out the 'name' goalies that are below him now.

Lu will be well rested. He should play B2B games unless he has a bad game Friday. Canucks beat Oilers 3-2. Sedins back on scoreboard. -

They're tired. They've played a lot lately, more than the rest of the team apart from Kesler. Plus they have a revolving door on the wing. They'll be fine after a few days off. I think they'll be productive again on Friday against Edmonton. -

My first game this season at the Rog... yay! Canucks, don't let me down! I hope Lu plays again. Lack plays Edmonton, Lu gets Boston. I'm calling this one 4-2 Canucks. Sedins get back on the scoresheet. They've been pretty consistent all season. -

You don't seem to understand why people don't bother having a discussion with you. Let me help you. In the first period, Colorado was outplaying the Canucks, outshooting us 12-6. If it wasn't for Lu, Colorado could easily be leading after one period. Lu had a solid game (.966 save%) and earned second star. He lost a shutout with seconds left because a team mate failed to make a simple clearance of the puck. And all you were focussed on was Lu giving up a late goal. No wonder people are treating you as a troll. -

The Canucks are chasing Phoenix so they'll be extra motivated. Phoenix has become a more offensive minded team and has the 4th highest number of goals in the league. But Luongo plays better when he faces lots of shots. So at the risk of being called a fortune-teller again, I'm calling a 3-1 win for the good guys. -

Well if you watch goalies other than Lu, you'd notice ALL goalies flop. How can they not in a goalmouth scramble? Also when they have to make the splits to make themselves as wide as possible, it's simple physics that they'd fall over forward. That being said, even if it's a weakness of Lu's, he has to be doing SOMETHING right to be the second winningest active goalie in the league, etc. -

Yeah... Lack's stats are .906 and 2.49... both worse than Lu's. He allowed 2 goals on 9 shots in this game. Doesn't that tell you poor team defense has something to do with Lu's problems? -

That damn Luongo... 2 goals in 10 secs... can't make the big saves... oh WAIT! I'm just glad it wasn't Lu in net because you KNOW he'd take all the heat for stupid mistakes the D makes. Glad Kes got one back! -

Yep, same ole story... every goalie is an allstar against us. We outshoot the other team but on our grade A chances we lose control of the puck or shoot wide. And the other team capitalizes on their chances. Frustrating as hell! -

Yeah, they're as bad as those threads posted after a loss! Haha! I think both teams will be pumped to show up their former coach. So it's going to be a good one! Canucks eke out a 3-2 win. Burrows finally scores and Booth scores another. -
There's a reason she's our chairperson of the (Canuck) board.

To those of you who won't acknowledge that lack of scoring is the main reason for our current slump, and who keep blaming Lu for the losses, consider this: Chicago has allowed the 5th most goals against in the competitive West. Crawford is sitting at 30th in save % at .908. But Chicago has also scored the highest number of goals in the league. And Chicago is sitting at #2 in the league, just 1 back of Anaheim with 2 games in hand. Gee, do you think scoring might have something to do with their success? And obviously, Crawford is not as bad a goalie as his stats indicate. Maybe team defense is a factor?
-
This is true. But it's the lack of scoring... one goal in 5 of the last 6 losses... that worries me most.
-
Thanks for being the voice of reason around here, Deb. My feeling is what you see is what you get with this team. It's a hardworking team that's struggling to score goals (even on the pp) because its top guys are underachieving and its depth guys simply aren't finishers. We win when we do get goal support from the depth guys and the defensemen... but that has been rare. We just haven't got the talent to go anywhere in the playoffs. Lack of depth has been the team's downfall the last two seasons, and it wasn't addressed prior to this season. Santorelli and Richardson have played a big part in the team's success so far. But it remains to be seen if they can sustain that over the rest of the season. Barring any impactful upgrade to the roster through trade, the Canucks are destined to eke their way into the playoffs. Then to go anywhere, everything will have to come together: the Sedins and Kesler will have to score and the depth guys will have to play out of their minds. And of course Lu will have to stand on his head.

Crawford let in 0 soft goals tonight. Lu let in 1. It happens. You think Crawford doesn't let in soft goals? He's #30 in save % in the league at .908. I would guess some of those goals against were soft goals. And goalies don't get to choose when to give them up. Yeah, the one goal was the difference in this game. But Lu made a number of big saves that gave the Canucks a chance to win despite them getting only one goal. Anyone who suggests this loss was on Lu is way off base.
