  1. Damn straight, Let's invest that valuable ice into a commodity that could develop into something, playing with the Sedins used to turn fourth liners into top 6'res, at the very l;east it would get him to start thinking at the most sophisticated level of offense, we are wasting a precious commodity whenever we palya guy who isn't meant to stay here with the twins.
  2. Ok guys, let's get out of fantasy land, yes there ar4e things to like about his game and no I would not consider this a wasted 1st yet, But stop with the "H'se doing exactly what's asked and doing it well" stuff HE GOT SENT DOWN, end of story it's not enough, and as for this fabled IQ I think his plan to hid out and be like a third D man was not very clever at all, it got him a bus ticket. Gaunce needs to change some things up and start playing like a guy who people should be afraid of instead of playing like he is terrified of everyone else's skills, The way he has been playing it would be very easy to park him in Utica and only use him as an injury plug, likre there's other faceless AHL 4 life guys who come through here every year, we want more from him and i sincerely hope he wants more for himself.
  3. No, sorry, if that were the case he would still be here, periodThe fact that he isn't means he is NOT doing what he needs to do. and BTW winning pouck battles and all the other stuff you mentioned IS sexy and gets you called by name in th broadcast booth, the fact that he isn't being mentioned shows that he is hiding out and being safe to a fault, that doesn't cut it in the NHL, Fourth lines are expected to attack. Gaunce has shown he can at least hang on NHL ice and not embarrass himself, but that isn't going to be enough to keep him in the league, he needs to start thinking bigger and playing with some swagger
  4. Ehhh.... I think radio broadcasts are an interesting way of gauging a player's overall involvement, if you don't hear their name called they aren't having much to do with the game, I'm actuallly surprised, I would think a first rounder like him would be trying to get noticed a little more, ya know maybe a fight or two, get in the goalie's face and cause a scrum, be a PITA to specific other players, kind of like what Kadri had to do to get noticed, Gaunce is sooo vanilla, it's like he's resigned himself to being a fourth liner, or who knows maybe he's biding his time and trying to get the little things right before he expands on his game, but if that's the case it got him sent down and didn't work, I would love to know what he's actually thinking about all this, how he sees his possible future and where he could fit and what he's trying to do to get there, because right now his game has "AHL" written all over it. I hope not because it would be very cool to have a late first rounder earn a regular spot with this team, it seems like it only happens once or twice a decade. I still find his total lack of offense since turning pro odd, he scored in Unior you would think he would tryand push to score in the pro's but he doesn't seem interested in being a top guy. I hope he comes back and realizes that hiding out while trying to be defensively perfect is not enough, you have to attack no matter where you are on an NHL team.
  5. That whole part is still odd, Did they not monitor him as they said?
  6. WOAH!.....I step away for a few days and look what happens....The thought police roll out in force! Let me explain something to you, in this crazy thing we call life you have fact and opinion. Fact can be proven, say by a stat line, one place within an organization, or how one compares to ones peers. These cannot be argued, they simply are . What conclusion one draws based on those facts is opinion. What can be inferred from a sagging stat line? A sub-basement level demotion? Or coming up woefully short when compared to others who have been given similar (Or less) opportunity? In this realm anything goes, and in an appropriate setting (say...an internet discussion forum?) you will hear all manner of forecasts based on the facts. Why? because that's what it's there for. This is where things get very odd. Imagine my surprise to end up on a discussion forum where a number of posters seem totally devoted to the SUPPRESSION of opinion, they are clearly not here to discuss, this is obvious by how quick they are to launch personal attacks on those whose opinions they are threatened by. But what is really interesting is that this bitter hubris is usually does a dainty texas-two-step around any of the fact, opting instead for "Straw-Man" tactics.....(hey, I'll save you the click: ) The typical straw man argument creates the illusion of having completely refuted or defeated an opponent's proposition through the covert replacement of it with a different proposition (i.e. "stand up a straw man") and the subsequent refutation of that false argument ("knock down a straw man") instead of the opponent's actual proposition.[2][3] This technique has been used throughout history in polemical debate, particularly in arguments about highly charged emotional issues where a fiery, entertaining "battle" and the defeat of an "enemy" may be more valued than critical thinking or understanding both sides of the issue. Credit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man And attempted "Gaslighting" which I see clearly in the comment poster who said (I paraphrase) " I feel like I'm watching an entirely different player, Alf and I will need to go to the psych ward soon" and in case you don't know what Gaslighting is, allow me: Gaslighting is a tactic in which a person or entity, in order to gain more power, makes a victim question their reality. People who gaslight typically use the following techniques: 1. They tell blatant lies. You know it's an outright lie. Yet they are telling you this lie with a straight face. Why are they so blatant? Because they're setting up a precedent. Once they tell you a huge lie, you're not sure if anything they say is true. Keeping you unsteady and off-kilter is the goal. 10. They tell you or others that you are crazy. This is one of the most effective tools of the gaslighter, because it's dismissive. The gaslighter knows if they question your sanity, people will not believe you when you tell them the gaslighter is abusive or out-of-control. It's a master technique. 7. They know confusion weakens people. Gaslighters know that people like having a sense of stability and normalcy. Their goal is to uproot this and make you constantly question everything. And humans' natural tendency is to look to the person or entity that will help you feel more stable—and that happens to be the gaslighter. Credit: https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/here-there-and-everywhere/201701/gaslighting-know-it-and-identify-it-protect-yourself Luckily those of you trying to do this stuff are not intelligent enough to do it correctly. Put simply you are about as effective at mind-f$%king people as Virtannen is on the ice, that is to say.............THUS FAR YOU HAVE NOT DEMONSTRATED SUFFICIENT CONPETANCY AT THE TASK IN QUESTION, PERHAPS YOU WILL TURN THINGS AROUND BUT MOST MEASURABLE INDICATORS SHOW THAT YOU ARE TRENDING TOWARDS FAILIER Those would be facts in case you are confused The laughable level of denial and pitiful counter attacks (When in fact, there was no attack to counter, only an opinion to debate) lead me to a couple of probable conclusions, the most obvious is that the Canucks are now paying posters to push certain viewpoints, this is actually routine although during the last decade it's not something they would have had to do, now things being what they are, it would be normal for the club to hire people to push the company line on this forum, II would expect that, but I would hope they would hire more qualified applicants, but whatever, got to cut corners somewhere for the Erickson contract I guess. The second is that Virtanen's Abbottsford buds are on here sticking up for him, that's fine except that it might mean he actually reads this thing, which would not be good at all, I'm sure players in any sport are told to stay far far away from their teams forum and that is good advice indeed, advice I'm sure %99.9 of players understand and take that advice because I would guess a player who doesn't understand why not to come here, probably doesn't have what it takes upstairs to be a player for long. Whatever the case may be, give it up, you aren't any good at making facts any less than what they are, instead put a little time into coming up with an alternate interpretation of those facts, find some bright spots and exp[and on them, I would doubt there is a single person on here that wants Virtanen to fail, and those of us who see a grim forecast would love to be convinced otherwise. But don't tell us how lovely the Emporer's new clothes are .... Because at the moment he is butt-a$$ naked
  7. I know you think you are being clever but the other poster never said he would make a good scout He said that our lack of drafting success may indicate we better scouts, the fact that we rarely seem to make the best pick at our position and that other teams getting better players drafting after us proves this. How you take this to mean he believes himself to be an NHL caliber scout I have no idea So, if your friend tells you he went to a movie and it wasn't good, do you start going like "So when is your summer blockbuster coming out? I mean, you must have one if you are going to say that the one you saw isn't good" Yeah...........Mabey it's time to move to plan B for looking clever
  8. 3 game goal streak? Did this start after Linden said he wasn't coming back this year? Could it be that Jake has gotten the message? This will be interesting to watch, I'm pessimistic on him, but I would LOVE to be wrong
  9. Alright Alf......but I'm going to remind you if he doesn't (I'll settle for 20G )
  10. Cool! Wasn't suggesting that he wasn't that good, I honestly didn't know as I find most scouting reports to be totally useless, they compare every player to a superstar and then give some unsupported estimation of their chances of making the league!?! I honestly wish we had strength coming at center, because I believe that is the position that wins and loses cups, but I'll take whatever we can get at this point (I STILL think we need another center and that Joulevi could make goods trade bait for one, if his stock is rising then all the better to trade him with, prospect for prospect, D for Center ice)
  11. You really think he's that good? Put away the Homer goggles for a minute, totally serious question...and I don't know the answer.....He's REALLY that good?
  12. Gentlemen, Things are about to get REAL interesting This is a pivotal moment for Jake, I think we will see what he is made of
  13. As it was stupid to have Virtanen and McCann up here last year, thus there has been a precedent set by the organization for prematurely graduating top prospects , And BTW this is how you support a point, with evidence Using words like delusional and stupid in a reply doesn't actually prove anything, However it's a good indicator that whoever is using them 1. has no evidence to support their POV 2. Does not possess the cognitive skills necessary to identify and articulate any evidence that might exist I could actually think of a few arguments to support your position.........so that kinda narrows it down, don't it?
  14. I'm late to this party but my 2 cents is: You can't compare the actions of Babcock and WD and consider all things equal, they are both called "Coach" but their positions within their respective organizations couldn't be more different. Babcock is almost like an owner, look up job security in the dictionary and you will probably see his picture, he can literal;y do whatever the hell he wants, if he decided today that just for s%$ts and giggles he wanted to see you and me as the 3rd D pairing for the next game, we would be getting emailed plane tickets within 1/2 an hour and upon arriving at the airport there would be 2 jerseys waiting for us: "ALF" 69 Terrible"13 And nobody would do a damn thing about it, he can try things and explore any notion he has as a coach without fear r, he is untouchable WD is in the scariest position, he's a bubble NHL coach, the future financial destiny of his family is reading on one thing for him WINS, if he gets branded a Dallas Eakins, the dream is dead. You guys want to see WD focus on development? Talk to his bosses
  15. the whole reason for this discussion is that there are signs it will not come, very real ones Nobody had a problem letting Horvat play, most of us wanted him in the minors his first year and to be more patient, same with Jake and Mr. Personallity, Nobody is screaming to get Julevi or Boesser in here this season, this fan base is more patient than we get credit for Jake is a totally different issue
  16. One thing in Wille's favor is the way this team keeps pulling out of fatal nose dive every time it seems they are ready to crash and burn, we were even in a playoff spot there for as minutes weren't we? That isn't a team who hates their coach, with Torts the team was sooo demoralized, you could see everyone only wanted the season to be OVER so they could all get away from the horrible toxic atmosphere, same thing when Keenan was here, the aura of negativity was so thick. Doesn't seem to be the case with Wille, and these win streaks they keep going on are the mark of a team who wants to keep thier coach.
  17. Am I awful D? Hahaha! I like! Well, I do take requests for my greatest hits, so.... "I like the way he played tonight" = That's good "Real good game" = Even better "best game of the year" = Ever heard of a back-handed compliment?, Loss? no Points? For a top 6 difference maker prospect, this is his best so far? "He's had some games where he hasn't been effective" = Woah! Why so negative all of a sudden? Because green is doing a one-man good cop bad cop, It's coaching 101 he's trying to stroke Virts ego in one sentence and show him how to keep it going on through to a happy ending with the next one. This was about trying to burn into the players mind what the coaches expectations are. If the player in question was rolling along on track the coach wouldn't need to do stuff like this. This is, the kind of stuff coaches do with children. "We talked to him about that" = We...multiple people....talking to jake about what he's doing wrong......need I say more? "He was Physical tonight" "Effective around/with the puck" = All good "If he doesn't do that he won't be effective enough to play in the NHL" = HAHAHA! Are you kidding me? You must be joking if you are telling me you read this and thought it was a coach talking about how great one of his players is? The subtext to this statement and entire series of quotes is as obvious as Trumps hair piece. You do not say this stuff about a player who isn't in serious jeprody of washing out altogether. And this is where it stops being funny, because this quote from Green is about the worst thing we could have heard, it means Jake has not really gotten the message if the coach is poking him through the media with not-so-veiled warnings of what could happen if he doesn't square his S#$%T away ASAP it means Green is pulling out all the stops to convey a message that has yet to sink in, and that consequences could be coming sooner rather than later. Thank you....thank you very much (Awful D has left the building)
  18. THIS! Right here C'mon guys, this is the &^@#ing NHL, not Britania Hockey school This is the place where millions of dollars are on the line and you can go from fut5ure millionaire to minimum wage in a south Surrey minute if you don't commit yourself 100% to being better than the other guy. If you look at the personal practice habits of Wayne Gretzky and Sidney Crosby you'll notice one thing. They do MORE than any other players, those two have and had absolutely insane SELF-IMPOSED development plans, Gretz used to be in his basement for hours working on his awareness of where pucks would be, it wasn't a magic trick, he put in the 10,000 hours, and I think it was his Dad who was supervising his drills if memory serves. Those two players left nothing to chance they committed 100% to being the best they could be, Now look at Virt, everyone knows the deal with big guys in jr. Thewy are used to dominating less phsically gifted kids but once they are on the ice with men and they don't have that advantage, THEN we see what they are made of. Everyone knew this was the gamble in drafting Virt, and this is why so many people thought it was a terrible idea, couple that with his age, which meant he was being drafted with minimal hockey experience and the idea of drafting him gets even worse, Now we see that Virt lacks big league practice habits and commitment, which I'm not sure if the Canucks had any idea about or not, but regardless they put the spotlight on what a terrible decision it was for a team in our position to gamble on a player like this. Make no mistake people, those of you who are saying Virt will be fine don't realize how bad this has gotten There is a flashing neon sign over Virts head right now that reads BUST He can probably stay in the NHL if he starts hitting and fighting, his physical tools will grant him that, but it will not be as a top 6 player and it won't be in Vancouver. And it won't be Green WD or anyone's fault but his.......and maybe his Dad's
  19. Could you imagine CDC where everyone had to run their comments by a literate adult before posting?
  20. Huh??? WTF are you people talking about? oh...........I suppose that was a joke, It better be a joke because if not, the educational system has truly failed. Hey dummies! This is a forum, where people post opinions.......that's what it's for. If you can't stand to hear opinions contrary to yours don't come here
  21. You have to take at least two steps away from reality to arrive at any of your conclusions The above poster made observations made on fact alone, facts you are desperate to two-step around 1. fact : Tchack is a first line NHL player Juolevi couldn't even cut it for NHL training camp. There is no concrete reason why one should expect Juolieve to be better than a 1st line NHL'er already is, to say so is just wild fantasy, You want ito happen so you say it, but it is's not a fact, do you understand? And the Only reason we took him is because Benning was caught flatfooted, he had no clue CBJ were going to jump in and take his player, so as not to look bad he picked a guy who was likely to play in the NHL but not to star, this high in the draft is where you go for top line talent, not dependable footsoldiers, bad drafting period. 2. All the reasons to be concerned about Jake, which were well known at the time of his drafting have happened. Every single one of them and more, we didn't know about the attitude. When he was drafted the team needed skill, Benning took muscle and not even sure thing muscle, he gambled on it, I will not list the comparables for Jakes situation, but it isn't good, players in his position usually washout, especially if they don't have a great attitude. The skill we lacked was ours for the taking all the fans and media knew it, Benning made a head-scratch choice why is is head-scratching can be seen righty now, today, no spin doctoring necessary the facts are there fort you to see Now i suppose you'll defend with a lots of opinions fantasies and what if's, know that none of what you are saying is actually happening right now, the facts and the truth are what they are, they do not need to be interpreted re-explained or spun Anytime someone tries to re-interpret the facts for you you kinow they are full of s@$#t
  22. Some or all of those posters are on the Canucks payroll,, it's pretty obvious when you read some of those posts, companies do this to influence public opinion at the grassroots level and there may be a really patient "slow burn " troll there too
  23. I think I'll worry about neither thank you very much I am however concerned with the surf break here at Rincon, blown out and choppy The NY comment was uncalled for, so I'll apologize for that, Which story is that? That It's odd for someone to be so agitated at the mention of a trade rumor, and probably not healthy? I'm up for a Pulitzer prize on that one
