  1. I agree. I'm hoping management re-signs Edler and trades Tanev. Stecher and Gudbranson look like they can handle top-4 minutes on the right side. There isn't anyone other than Edler on the left that can handle those minutes at the moment. Juolevi in the very near future, hopefully.
  2. Juolevi with a wrister from just inside the blueline on the powerplay that wrang off the post. Had it gone in it would've been his second point of the evening and it would've put his team up 2-0. He's looking good so far. Smooth skating and making good decisions on the powerplay.
  3. Squats, deadlifts. Plyometrics to work on his explosiveness. Core exercises. Put in some balance stuff too. Heck just get him and Dahlen to train with Henrik and Daniel Sedin. Give them a skating coach too while they're at it.
  4. If we were to win the second or third lottery spot we would be near complete up front. We'd have pairs of Pettersson/Dahlen, Horvat/Boeser, and Gaudette/Lind, and if you add a Zadina or Svechnikov to any of those pairs look out.
  5. Apart from CDC, I've been scouring the interwebs for some scouting info and people seem to think highly of Olli Juolevi. In response to someone asking about Juolevi in a Miro Heiskanen thread a poster replies that Juolevi is "really solid, he's scored a couple of nice goals too." Another poster has this to say: "Miro Heiskanen and Olli Juolevi, so smooth and smart puckmoving Ds. Such a pleasure to watch these guys developing on every stride on the ice, especially for the keen and experienced eye of an older state man like me." In the Juolevi thread, a once critical poster of Juolevi said this: "I feel like I have to give some credit to the guy as I was very critical of him early on to his stint with TPS. He has improved a LOT. He always had the offense but he was a serious liability in their own zone. He's still not physical (probably never will be) but his positioning and effort have improved drastically. Not sure how he'll eventually adjust to NHL, but he doesn't look like a total bust to my eye anymore." Further to that, one poster says that Juolevi has "been reliable enough defensively" and has "been able to utilize his strengths." It will be a tough test for Juolevi as two of TPS Turku's top-4 defensemen (Tallinder and Heikkanen) are injured. With the amount of minutes he got last game, it looks like Juolevi will have to carry the load defensively this upcoming playoff round. -EDIT- Of further note, Cam Robinson of DobberProspects had this to say of Juolevi's Liiga season and current playoff success: "Juolevi and his TPS teammates took down SaiPa in the quarter finals of Liiga action earlier this week. The smooth-skating rearguard had two goals in the six games while seeing games of 20-plus minutes. It has been a successful season for the teenaged rookie defender as he finished his regular season with 19 points (7+12) in 38 games - good enough to be the second most productive U20 defender in the league (behind Miro Heiskanen)."
  6. 28 minutes holy. I almost spat out my coffee.
  7. By the time his contract with Avto expires the Canucks will be a new team. New coach in Travis Green who treats players fairly as long as they work hard. No Sedins and a new leadership group with Horvat, Boeser, and Gaudette. Likely an open spot in the top-4 for him as well.
  8. After Seattle gets their franchise I can imagine Arizona relocating to Houston, followed closely behind by Carolina relocating to Quebec.
  9. If Jake can keep his game up, be given extra responsibilities (PK time, second unit PP time, a few shifts in OT), and have an opportunity to play with similar style and skilled players (like Leipsic instead of the Sedins or Eriksson or Gaunce) I can see him being a 20 goal scorer next year.
  10. 65 seconds, down by 8. Can Brady pull off another Brady?

AFAIK Dubois Pick for Subban, although it seems like there should be more there.

Schneider was traded for 9th OA, remember.

  14. I am definitely missing out on this. What happened with Juolevi? What happened at last year's World Junior Championships? I know Finland had a very disappointing tournament last year but what does that have to do with Juolevi being stripped of the Finnish captaincy? He called out the Finnish coaches?
  15. By all accounts that's something he has been working on with Salo. He was always a good defender and this year under Salo's tutelage Juolevi is learning to use his skating and stick work to neutralize and angle off opposition forwards and to use his body to free up pucks. He's learning to play proactively using his skating, stick, and body to neutralize opposition offensive threats when they come into his zone. To to be honest, I would've been quite happy that he's learning to play a solid defensive game, but on top of that his transition game (see: controlled defensive zone exits + minimal failure rate) and offensive game seem to be picking up quite nicely as well. Ryan Suter type player. Not flashy. Not overly physical despite having pretty good size. But he will play in all situations, be your top shutdown guy and have multiple 30-40 point seasons.
  16. Passes both the eye test and the analytics test yet people are still ragging on the kid. Sheesh it's like people set "realistic" expectations of this Juolevi to be the next Orr or Karlsson and anything less is bust.
  17. Hypothetically speaking, if the Sedins return for another year and both Dahlen and Pettersson make the team what do the lines look like? Baertschi - Horvat - Boeser Dahlen - Pettersson - Eriksson Daniel - Henrik - Virtanen Granlund - Sutter - Dorsett Gagner the extra forward? Goldobin? Gaudette, Lind, Gadjovich in Utica?
  18. Hopefully.. I am giddy with excitement but I will try my hardest to reserve expectations to a minimum with Lind. That said, Kole Lind: 17GP || 9G + 19A = 28P Cody Glass: 16GP || 8G + 18A = 26P (Different players, different positions, but offensively this Lind kid looks real good)
  19. In that 2015 NHL Entry Draft video Benning says, "There's no way Boeser is getting to us. We're still like thirteen more picks." We then drafted Boeser with the 23rd overall pick. Boeser is definitely a top-10 player in that draft and time will tell if he will be a top-5. As an aside, this makes me wonder... "Why isn't anyone taking Kole Lind?"
  20. Miro Heiskanen has scored two goals in his game today and has 10 points in 10 games. Olli Juolevi with no points in today's game has 7 points in 10 games. Both are currently playing top pairing minutes for their respective Liiga teams -- the difference is that Heiskanen has been playing top minutes since last season as a 17 year old. Juolevi has had to adjust to the international ice sheet and Finnish style of play. If we were choosing a defenseman last draft, I was hoping for Heiskanen. He is such a smooth skater and has great vision and IQ in both the defensive and offensive zones. I questioned how much offense he could produce, but I knew he was more offensive-minded than Juolevi, who looks to be more of a two-way defenseman. The way I think it, I would say Juolevi is similar to Edler and Heiskanen is similar to Ehrhoff back in 2009-2011. Edler was bigger and better defensively yet still able to put up 30-40 points and quarterback the powerplay. Ehrhoff had trouble at times with bigger forwards and in battles along the boards or in front of the net, but was very good with the puck on his stick. Both Juolevi and Heiskanen have fared very well playing against men in the Finnish league, but the NHL is a whole different animal. To his credit, Juolevi shutdown Logan Brown and Gabe Villardi in the OHL playoffs last year and has the size to handle bigger forwards when he makes the NHL.
  21. Lots of good Finnish defense prospects in recent years. Rasmus Ristolainen, Julius Honka, Olli Juolevi, Miro Heiskanen (had he been available I also wanted him at 5), Juuso Valimaki and now Anttoni Honka. Hopefully Juolevi turns out to be the better of the bunch.
  22. Gradin Naslund Daniel and Henrik Sedin Pettersson? Dahlin??
  23. 5 points in an SHL game against a team who has potential generational talent Rasmus Dahlin and fellow 2017 draftee Lias Andersson. Crazyyyyy
