Refs shouldn't but they do, maybe not 100% but they can stop momentum and even switch it. I played competitive hockey at a respectable level(where people pay to watch you) one thing is true, once a guy gets 2 goals, you're taking away his time and space. Hooks & holds happen. The refs start letting that go and say things like "that's not a playoff penalty" or " we don't want to give away the game on a questionable penalty" As for CBJ or ATL were you privy to the books? In big business you need to have some writeoffs to balance against capital gains. Maybe the popularity wasn't there like they thought it would be. Maybe back door dealings happen. Or maybe you're right everything is on the up & up & 100% honest and 100% fair. You talk about how well Loungo played to get it to game 7, but on the flip side of the coin did you see how aweful he played in the 3 that let it get to game 7+ the game 7 itself. Ever wonder if a goalie has ever played that hot and cold? There's more revenue in a 7 game series instead of a 4 or 5 game series. When was the last time a team scored 15+ goals/ game? When was the last time a team ran domination of 4 or 5 game series the whole way? There ain't no money in that. You say that players can dominate....there is no player in this league that can dominate another team. The skill is too good. If you don't believe that how come no player has done 50 in 50 or had a 150+ point season in recent history? That means not Ovechkin, not Crosby, not Stamkos, not Malkin, not Tavares, not the Sedins can dominate how you describe. Once in a while a guy has a flukey game and lights it up, but it's not an everyday thing. Did Auger not have the power to decide a regular season game....better yet why was he so confident that he could tell burrows he would do it? Had he done it before a little less subtle? I don't believe that the nhl is fake, but I do believe it has some "Devine intervention" for lack of a better term to guarantee it maximizes profits.

You seem to lack the ability to comprehend the difference between "fixing" and "staging". Of course the players are not in on it, most have the i.q. of about 73 and would quack quack a bit too much. As for why do people still watch it?, why do people watch boxing, wrestling... They want to be entertained. Win or lose, I love the game. I've lived and died with my nucks for 24+ years, why quit now,

Google the following: "The ironing is delicious" , it's not like it was rehearsed, but the pu$$y/skilled team was made out to be the bad guy. And the mighty/bad Canadians were defeated by the overachieveing giant-slayers....fresh on the heels of a 10 figure American TV deal? It wasn't like Boston was the chosen ones from the beginning the more popular team in the states had to win. No ifs ands or buts. The move had to be good for business.

I'm seeing alot of naiveness and stupidity in this thread but despite your best efforts this is surprisingly a smart post. Because if you don't know and to those that don't, wake the frack up. Why are roughly about half the owners currently or in the past have had business ties to Rizzuto, Gambino or Lucchese??? To say that the nhl is fake like the wwf is wrong. To say that the games are won or lost on their own is just as wrong too. Fact of the matter is it's a business that's profitable in the 100s of millions-billions a year and with a respectable percentage having ties to groups that fix other sports it's a dumb assumption to think that there is no medelling. Officials use "game management" instead of ref. Johnny borderline NHLer hits a respectable player and injures him. Suspensions are inconsistent & no real basis. If the nhl is 100% pure like most of you are claiming, it'd be the first 100% honest 10-figure business to not be touched by the mob. I don't believe in miracles. Common sense/knowledge dictates that is just not the case here.

whatever it is, the team needs to play .600 hockey now to make the playoffs if the points are 93-97ish to make it. If gillis is happy with playing .500 hockey he's gonna wait and see to the point where he watched his job fly out the window

:-o, you don't say, in that case lets get him out of that proposal and put Rodin in his place, because he'll be a great player in this league for many years to come as well. -

Great job lets trade; Booth+ prab Rai+ yann sauve+ Jordan Schroeder+ 2019 3rd round pick for Crosby+ Letang, imagine how good this could be for Pittsburgh if everyone plays up to their potential. -

Oh sorry, we should give him the coulda been great player award and throw a parade in his honour. I'm sorry but a third of the way through the season+ not in a playoff spot with many improved teams in the conference+ a GM not doing a thing= fail. Fans like you helping to make excuses =fail. Next you gonna tell us that sesisto and Weise did a great job of being "tough guys" or "enforcers" by disappearing in a game where the team took liberties with our guys and Ryan "knuckles" Stanton had to stick up for our team?. Great job, keep on supporting and making excuses. Enjoy your first rebuild as clearly you haven't seen one here yet. Absolutely embarrassing, this is why most fan bases think our fanbase is delusional and lacks hockey knowledge. -

The lack of secondary scoring is so glaring...

+1, it's like watching a beloved pet get old and sick and suffer. At some point you gotta walk out back, put a bullet in er. Move on and start fresh. -

I think he's stubborn and old school, he can't see that in every draft in the last 6-8 years most players in the first 50 or so picks are complete players and when they cycle in, the league as a whole gets better. I think he's been caught with his pants down, busy contemplating whether to crap or get off the pot. Around him the times are changing and he don't appear to roll with change. This year I think we'll finish off with a 52-55% win percentage. That will bring us 85-91 points, good enough for a playoff spot? I dunno, but unless some big moves are made the following 5-6 years will be painful. But I look forward to a new core growing and emerging. -

Standing_Tall#37 replied to Lui's Knob's topic in Canucks Talk
do you expect Montreal to be elite? I expect them to be a 6-10 team in the east, 12-20th in the league. I think a fair share of wins for us will be 50-60% against the bottom 20ish teams in the league and 33-40% against the top teams in the league, I think we are now a 6-12ish team in the west, behind SJ, LA,Chi,StL, Col. We will battle Anaheim, Minnesota, Dallas & Winnipeg for a playoff spot. I really only see edm, Calgary, Phoenix and Nash being pushover teams. -

I could care less about the standings, what I see is the fact that we can't beat top 20 teams or compete with them so far. What bothers me is that we have 9 nhl forwards and 5 D. What I see is the times are changing in 2003-2004 the nhl changed...drafting bigger and wayyyy more skilled hybrid type of players. We are now seeing the old guard retiring or in twilight years & the new generation of way more skilled players peak (Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, Giroux, Stamkos, Taveres, Kane, Getzlaf, Hall, Benn, etc....) we currently have no youth in the line-up of this style, although we have shink, horvat and Gaunce coming up. I think Shroeder & Jensen could have played well in the old nhl, but they will fail in this better-skill/speed era. It is only a matter of time before it is exposed that we missed the curve. Project players and failure to do a proper reset will have this team struggling for years. Shink,Bo-Ho or Gaunce should have been in the lineup this year, however they missed the boat and will only be on the squad when we have accepted a culture of losing, furthermore delaying their development(see Edmonton; accepting a losing culture). Sorry to admit it, but this Cores glory days are done, we have 2-4 years maybe of even fighting for a playoff spot. Time to trade off Kes, Twins, Edler, Bieksa while we can still get something lets not Calgary, Toronto or Edmonton this to the point where we rebuild for 10 years without a sniff of the playoffs. -

Lmao....I think being $200,000 over the cap and 6 players short of the minimum roster size = major player moves. (Regardless of who the coach is) -

True, but how much success has any of our coaches had since 70 if we are gonna be "win the cup or bust" I think Torts is our only option to go all in for a year or two. Otherwise lets go for a more stable long-term guy and start the rebuild this summer. -

You could tell by the 30th minute that LA would win. Beckham and Donavan have been getting away with fouling all game, I didn't think the Ref would let the caps win even if they played squeaky clean. Too much money lost if the galaxy gets eliminated first round... -
