Don't look now, but Hansen's on pace for 20 goals (tied for 3rd on the team with Hank) despite being 10th in ES TOI per game. It's ridiculous what a whipping boy Jannik has become, he's contributing more than most yet people still want him out of the lineup.

I do like the Virtanen pick more now than at the draft, but to pick based on your division is just as crazy as to pick because of team needs. Who knows what the Pacific will look like when JV is in his prime, it probably won't be the same death-triangle it is today.

Or maybe (just maybe) he's out of game shape after not being able to train properly all summer. He's off to a slow start, just as expected. I'm positive he'll pick it up at some point, but there's nothing to be worried about right now.

This thread is hilarious. Thinking a guy won't be up to speed right away after having shoulder surgery and not being able to train properly is horribly negative. Everyone keeps saying that Bo isn't ready, that Bo has so many people above him on the depth chart. Fact is, nobody's seen Bo play since the end of last season. I wouldn't be shocked to see him perform better than Richardson and Matthias. So many people counting him out before the camp's even started.

Agreed, they're both high risk/high reward (anywhere from bust to 1st liner), but I see Jake as a medium risk/medium reward (anywhere from 4th liner to 2nd liner). While having a near guaranteed NHLer in the system, we're lacking in potential top liners, only having Shinkaruk (maybe) and McCann/Horvat (depending on who you ask). I thought it was time to take a risk and shoot for someone to replace the twins in the future, but if management wants more of the Boston model with no elite scoring wingers but a multitude of 50 point guys, that's fine too.

And it's a helluva lot more risky. A 1st overall is a near guarantee, while the 6th in a weak draft is anything but. Canucks desperately need someone to replace the twins in a couple years if we don't want a burn-it-to-the-ground rebuild. Sam Reinhart can be the centrepiece of the new team, and maybe even the 2C to replace Kesler next year. I'd give up pretty much anyone on the NHL roster plus our 6th to get that pick. Even Tanev.

In guessing you've done nothing but watch the Memorial Cup this year. And Valeri had 34 points playing next to Seguin amd Benn. 14 goals. It's not like he was a 30 goal, 60 point player. People around here act like he set the world on fire. We'll see how their careers look in a few years, but the love that CDC has for him is near-undeserved. Bo Horvat took one extra year of junior. That's not a flaw, that's proper development.

People complain that we should've gotten more for the goalies, like a draft pick. Does Mathias, Markstrom, Horvat, and a 2nd sound even to anyone? The fanbase will never like a trade unless we're the clear winners. Nothing else is acceptable. I'm not arguing that the trades were fantastic. The saga dragged on way too long and that diminished everyone's value. Its the main reason Gillis was dismissed, it was a total mismanagement of assets. However, given the market at the time of the trades, it was the best that was possible. Tallon had Gillis over a barrel in the Luongo trade, Florida was the only place he was going to go, and everyone knew it. Schneider had a few destinations possible, and the Jersey trade was the best one in the short term (out of division) and the long term (Horvat is going to be a stud and a fan favourite for a number of years).
