    I find it fascinating that none of the teams that set the regular season wins records in the NHL, NBA, NFL, or MLB went on to win their respective league championships that year:

     

    • 1995-96 Detroit Red Wings won 62 games and lost in the conference finals
    • 2015-16 Golden State Warriors won 73 games and lost in the NBA Finals
    • 2007 New England Patriots won 16 games and lost in the Super Bowl
    • 1906 Chicago Cubs won 116 games and lost in the World Series; 2001 Seattle Mariners won 116 games and lost in the ALCS

      Some close ones...

       

      The '72 Dolphins won every game that was available to them and won the Super Bowl.  Not their fault they had 2 fewer regular season games.

       

      The '76-'77 Canadiens only lost 8 games on an 80 game schedule (60 wins) and went on to win the Stanley Cup.
